what an experience!!! ❤️🔥 I couldn’t come to Jamaica and not learn about their famous dish jerk. the art of jerk cooking, involves marinating meat in a mixture of spices and slow-cooking it over pimento wood. jerk originated with indigenous peoples of Jamaica from the Arawak, Taíno tribes, and was carried forward by the Jamaican Maroons in the 17th century. The Maroons were Africans that broke free from enslavement in Jamaica & took refuge in the mountains, forging self sufficient communities & connecting deeply with the land. The jerk marinated meats were often cooked slowly in underground oven pits to minimize the smoke so that not to give their locations away. It was also a technique used to preserve meat. Jerk is more than just a dish!!
Jamaica, thank you for the beautiful experiences! ❤️

The two of you look like brothers what a chemistry and SO much fun to watch, invite him to Wales...!!!! (don't tell him about the weather over there, though...🤩)
He’s coming sooon!!!
@@gazoakleychef For when? Did i miss that episode? This was very good :)
Gaz’s love for the culture is infectious ❤
I am convinced that the envorinemnt in which you eat the food including the people you are eating with strongly affects the taste and overall experience of the food. When you eat in good company, in lush nature like this you get properly nourished on all levels. This was a treat to watch. 👌
Gaz u seem so happy!!! Excellent series, i love the travel memoir feel of exploring the natural land and getting to know the people, not just recipes.
Yes Gaz!!! Loving this series, looks like you're having fun out there - top bloke!
He is indeed a top bloke! :D
A cafe and juice bar in Jamaika serving grilled pink oyster mushrooms sounds like heaven
Loving this series! It’s great how you include some history in each episode! Thanks to chef vita too 🇯🇲❤
More to come!
This series is next level. The friendship, food and landscape. I'm in love!
You’re just a lovely guy, Gaz. As much as I appreciate your food and adventures, I watch to see how much you relish your day. Lots of love from South Africa.
Welcome to Jamaica!!🇯🇲 🇯🇲 🇯🇲 🇯🇲 I am a Sub from when you were living in your apartment home in the city. I'm a vegetarian and have always love your recipes. Your second time here in Jamaica and you want to become a Jamaican citizen 👏🏽👏🏽😃 can see that you love it here. Keep enjoying yourself here inJamaica🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 🇯🇲, blessings and One Love🫶🏽
Excited for this! My tummy is rumbling already 😄👌
As someone with native heritage (Carib and Arawak) it’s wonderful that you go into the history of jerk a bit. Roasted breadfruitttttt aahhh perfect 🤤😩👌
These videos make me want to visit Jamaica some day. What a beautiful country 😍, lovely people and delicious food. Just amazing.
This is a really nice series, Gaz and Tom. We’ve all seen and heard the connection you had with Jamaica, even before you visited her. You seemed to have a special love for Jamaican food. Now, seeing you with Chef Vita, is like seeing you find your 2nd home. Loving your adventures in Jamaica. Such nice people.
Observing you in each one of the Jamaican episodes you were literally glowing. You were definitely in your culinary element and genuinely enjoyed it. Your experience makes it quite inviting to visit Jamaica. Other than being able to enjoy the motherland, the key would be having the same connections with someone similar to what you had in order to take advantage of eating well prepared & traditional vegetarian-grade foods.
Jamaica 🇯🇲 was the easiest place to get fresh and healthy plant based food, everyday of the week during my travels
Been LOOOVING this series and I am so happy the comments are back my gosh! I always loved the aspect of community over here and was so sad I couldn't share how excited and amazed I am by what you've already shared in this wonderful series! The food is incredible but the cultural gems are just something else - the biggest thank you!
Big up Jamaica
Another excellent episode. Thanks Gaz, thanks Chef Vita. You have really nailed these cooking travel shows. BBC take note. When are you releasing a cook book with these recipes in. And the Mexican ones as well of course.
I am going to make this in my 1st barbaque of this year. In the Netherlands, bbq time is starting in any moment...when my friends put on their meat, I am going to bring this ;)

It's so delish! When I was returning home after a holiday in Jamaica (maaaaany years ago), I stuffed half of my suitcase with coffee and spices! LOL So good. It was interesting to see them using dates instead of usual browning in the jerk mix. Thanks for the series🤩
Thanks to you I'm convinced to go to Jamaica. Keep up the good videos!

You guys are so inspiring! I love how much you guys love what you're doing and it shows! I really love that you cook on a simple fire of wood in the middle of nowhere and it gives me inspiration in my line of work to step out of the box and just do what you love!!

Bruv watching your Jamaica vlogs is truly INSPIRING
Beautiful natural is the only way. We go back to nature. Blessings ❤
All ingredients and spices are amazing …the mushrooms are way too burnt to my taste and also burnt is not healthy as it sticks to your cells and cannot be eliminated. So I guess we can just adjust the cooking to our liking! Thanks for sharing…I will surely try this recipe (less burning part) ❤️🙏❤️
I love your recipe videos, the energy and vibes are just perfect
