Out of the two I’d say knuckles he has a very strong sense of duty he might receive a vision from tikal or chaos of sonic doing something that could be destructive to the master emerald or others for all we know it could be someone like fleetway escaping into the master emerald and pulling the strings by messing with knuckles through his connection to the emerald. That's what I was thinking about Tails too because he has a dark form and some how or anytime, he could betray Sonic. There could be more enough possibilities when Sonic's closest friends will betray him for a bad reason or a good reasons. We all may never know, but we all have a feeling that it could be Tails or it could be someone else who is very close to him.
