- Jose is a brand new student of mine, and this was his first ever flight lesson. My first lessons are always about getting comfortable with the aircraft by learning the fundamentals - climbs, turns and descents. That lays the foundation for the rest of training.
Enjoy the flight!

THIS is the kind of instructor EVERYONE should have!
Thank you!
Agree. I’d love if he was in the UK. everyone is so depressing here.
i smiled when lewis said to him "welcome to the sky" haha
Lovely Video clip! Excuse me for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you ever tried - Rozardner Flying Bird Reality (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome exclusive guide for how to get pilot license without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my best friend Jordan after many years got great success with it.
Loved the relaxed teaching attitude. I would love to learn to fly from Lewis
I haven't even begun my flying yet but the way you are able to manage many things at once like letting him make his own mistakes and correct them without going into a dangerous situation and also teach him at the same time is amazing. Well Done!
Now this is the video I was looking for. A student's first try at flying a plane. Could you upload videos with this guy cause he is like a begginer and I would love to see what are some if the things that are taught on the first practical class.
I think you will be seeing more of Jose in the coming weeks and months. You'll see his progress!
An older friend who is starting his primary training in a few days, asked me "what will my flight instructor have me do on the first flight lesson?" Well, that was over 50 years ago in my case, so I didn't remember. But I found this Geordie video for him and I think it will help him a great deal. Thanks for posting.
Bro what
Why do yo want to fly: Its just an amazing opportunity and experience. Its like stepping into a different world, with unique feelings, rules and situations. Being able to fly over, seeing things from a different perspective. Navigate in a different level of freedom.... So many things that make it special...
You're good with your students Lewis. Nice film.
Cheers mate!
@@LewDixAviation I agree, you are a natural born teacher, I imagine you will continue to teach even when you are flying jet liners. Keep that light shining Lewis (P.S. note same to self)
@@David-R-AVP0057 thank you so much!
Jose will do fine in his airline career; he has a solid primary instructor. Great upload.
It’s interesting coming back after years and seeing comments like this.. Jose gave up on flying after PPL unfortunately
@@LewDixAviation Wow. I hope he'll do well, no matter his career choice. I couldn't give up on flight, but... this is how some things go.
@@LewDixAviation On another note, how ya doin' man?
@@Windtee doing well brother! It’s great to hear from you man.. I’m wearing one of the shirts you printed for me way back when!
@@LewDixAviation Nice! Keep 'em flying!
"Master of the trim"...oh so true. I always refer to it as the "poor man's autopilot" !
Yup. then you can pretty much fly the plane with your feet.
This is the 2nd lesson I've seen. You are so encouraging! I really like these videos. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for watching man!
Definitely needed to watch this. I just got my CFI and I’ve been wondering how to handle first flights with my students and this helped me a lot. Much appreciated, love your videos.
Eric Housman niiice congrats on your CFI! Thanks I appreciate your support!
At 56 with a desire to learn how to fly I believe that you will be an excellent instructor
I am starting my training this coming January. I wish this guy the best of luck in his journey.
Thanks CDR Dude: I’ve watched hundreds of aviation vids; I never heard a CFI talk primary and secondary flight controls. Awesome.
Going through a CFI Academy right now so videos like these are a great inspiration. Thank you!
Nacho Soto thanks man! I’m happy you’re getting something from my content! Good luck with the studies
Hello from your motherland Lewis! Awesome video mate, I am just about to start my PPL here in the UK. I can only hope my teacher is as fun and as good as teacher as you appear to be. Keep the videos coming.
You are an excellent teacher, you inspire confidence 👍
lol the face you made at the 1000ft checklist when the plane was in such a high angle of attack made me die of laughter, I was doing the same shenanigans when I first started great to see
Awesome! I am thinking seriously about learning to fly and I could see myself learning with Lewis. Top bloke 👍🏻
Cheers mate I appreciate that!
Gives me goosebumps great video
"You will be a master of the trim." LOL...
Your way in training it’s excellent and easy,, you are the master of the sky Lewis your films very useful thank you. 💚
Thank you sir!
I have my first flying lesson in 2 weeks and I’m so excited!
Quality work as usual.
Great teaching 👌, I'm 36 and I might start someday, life is though nowadays
Love ur videos buddy ...Keep making such gd stuffs …!
17. Thats awesome bro! You picked a good cfi!
You're a good teacher, nice video!
Just started watching your vids and getting into aviation. Doing my discovery flight next weekend here in Southern Cali. Good stuff man! Subscribed.
Welcome to the channel man!
I wish i had him as an instructor. you sounds fun and keep this interesting.
Your way of describing is very comprehensive. It is easy to understand.
Thank you Pilot.
I'm glad you like it!
Keep up the good work Lewis, I really enjoy your videos and your sense of humor. It’s nice to see other folks out enjoying flying as well. I hope to make it down to sunny FL one day, I’m stuck flying in Oklahoma for now.
Thanks for your support and I'm glad you like my humour! Flying is all about having fun!
lol its not always sunny down here.
Marco Ruiz, understood but it still beats podunk USA.
Hello I am a student my dream was becoming pilot since I was 10. Many people made fun that I can't make it, but I believe I can do it, this video really made me excited at the same time I'm learning from it, and ur in incredible calmed teacher!
Great video! Great positive instruction!
It was so funny when he started reading the checklist and the plane started pitching up LOL! Reminded me of he mistake I made on my first flight too 😂😂.. brings back memories!!!! Got a right slap in from my dad then because he was sitting at the back... whoopsie! That’s my first discovery flight summarised for yall!
I just turned 14 and a couple months back I did a experience flight but now I am 14 I can start the actually lessons/training and also I can log my flights and my hours start counting and so I am hoping to get a lesson in before the end of the year as my grandma and grandad bought me a flight lesson. Very very excited for it!!
You're a great Instructor! I hope I get one like you when I start my lessons.
Thank you!
New CFI Here. Awesome video on how to work with new students! This helped me more than you'd have any clue it did. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words!
First lesson on Friday, so this video makes me feel a hell of a lot better. Didn’t know what to expect
That's great to hear. I look forward to hearing about your experience!
This was a very good video, Good instructions.
I absolutely love your style. Might have to take some tips from you - looking at training to become an instructor myself!
Thanks brother! Always got to keep it fun. That’s my biggest tip
I’ve been watching a lot of these videos the past few days and I’ve noticed pretty much everyone knows a little to a decent amount of knowledge of the controls in the cockpit etc… I’d love to start getting lessons and getting my PPL in the uk in the next couple of years is there anything I should be learning/watching/reading before I book my discovery flight/taster flight/first lesson? Thanks! And brilliant video as always!
This is awesome! I loved my instructor! I started my RUclips channel after getting my PPL and using my plane to repossess vehicles.
Ah that's pretty cool!
digging your videos!
“Eye-transition”; wow, Teacher-great advice! Thank you!
Another great video, although you are not teaching me, I am still learning some from watching your videos. I love it!
Tim Fitzgerald that’s great my friend! How’s it going down there in KISM?
I'm doing my discovery flight tomorrow. I'm so excited! Lol but also overwhelmed, trying to figure out how to afford this dream!
Awesome instructor!
Wow I never expected to be able to takeoff on your first lesson
Amazing I wish my flight instructor will be like u
Saint dix, you are a true pro 😀loving it as usual
Nate French Saint Dix gets me every time 😂 Thanks man!
Went for a pleasure flight today. Never been in a light aircraft before. Two minutes into the flight, the pilot just said... " you have controls " the one hour flight,,,, I fly 45 mins of it, IT WAS AWSOME!!!!!!!! OK... i am a very practical person, with lots of common sense.. PPL here I come..
that shit eating grin you have when he is doing the climb check and starts pitching up, that had me laughing hard lol
Heard ya yesterday coming into ORL. Love the vids!
Sal Taglireno thanks Sal!
Great instructor
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 beautiful
17!?!?! I just got started at nearly 30. Nice flying
I’m 15 and my first lesson is actually next Sunday great video and understandable
How did U get into flying. I'm really wanting to get into it but idk how
I love this guy...Brings fun and comedy to aviation, but keeps it professional all at the same time. Makes learning easier and more enjoyable. His students will learn more and retain more, for sure... 5:17...He said he could be a "Master of Trim"...LMFAO
Johnathan Hubbard Maaaaan I appreciate your support! I’m glad you can see that I wanna make aviation fun for everyone, including myself lol.. Got to have fun!
Master of Trim
Trim Lord
Expert in the art of rolling the trim...
All the same 😂
First lesson is tomorrow. Nervous but really excited. Hope I do well!
Don’t be nervous! It’s a learning experience. You’re not expected to be an expert
In my first flight, getting used to steering on the ground with my feet and not my hands was so weird!
Love your vids and definitely your since of humor. Keep up the good work sir. Does your flight school offer discovery flights? If so, may I schedule one with you? Need an instructor who isn’t up tight. LOL.
Hey man! Glad you enjoy the videos! I'm not actually working with a school, I'm doing everything independently. We could definitely work out a discovery flight for you. Shoot me and email lewdixaviation@gmail.com and I can send you some info.
"take your hand off that, you're not gonna need that"
Curious if anybody has chimed into the comments yet about the importance of learning on-the-ground aileron control depending on wind direction. First lesson may be premature, but I was introduced to this even on my first "Discovery Flight" (or, "we'll take you up in a GA aircraft, and hand controls as you feel comfortable throughout the flight") while taxxiing.
You nailed it: first lesson is too soon. Building blocks of learning. Start simple, then build to more complex.
Great filming! What mount do you use to attach the GoPro to the ceiling? I can't seem to be able to do that on a PA28 with a suction cup mount.
I was looking at the scenery and was like wow that kinda looks like lake apopka, then you point to the right and asked if he could see downtown Orlando lol. I took my first discovery flight at Orlando exec when I was 12 years old. I am scheduled to go fly this upcoming weekend out of X04 in apopka. 25 years old now and financially ready to get my PPL
That’s great man! Would be cool for you to fly in and out of KORL again
@@LewDixAviation Are you currently offering lessons at KORL still? If so I’d be interested to know how much you are charging for lessons compared to the FBO I found at X04. I am located in Ocoee so I’m like 15 mins from KORL.
I would love to learn how to fly and I wish I could find an instructor like you sir.
I’m having my first flight soon... I’m really anxious.
Are there any programs for peaple that want to work or live at a airport..to help pay for training. Thankyou for the visual experience .awesome work
Welcome to the sky Jose.
Excellent instrcutor.
Pretty Cool! 😎
Wow amazing my dream job
You are a superb instructor. You give so much confidence. I'm guessing you are from the Manchester area of the UK?
Cheers mate! Yea from Bolton near Manchester
Where was this filmed ? Great video btw !
You're a really good instructor. when you gonna head to the Airlines? :-) my first Flight lesson my instructor talked me through landing with his hands off and had me park. It was a Diamond Katana and soooo easy to fly
Billy Andrews thanks brother.. Hoping to go to an airline this year but we’ll see.
damn I feel so lucky that I am training on a plane with a G1000 system, every other video I've seen it has been like a 1980s cessna, while all the aircraft I will be using for training are 2006 and newer
Great videos and an even better instructor. Can I ask which airfield you are flying from?
Thank you sir! I fly from Orlando Executive
Nice video, man! I am so excited to start flying. What do you think, can I start a flight career when I'm 42?
Thanks man.. Yes. You have until you’re 65 to fly for the airlines so that’s plenty of time!
I subscribe to the flying reporter who is an excellent pilot! So believe me that’s high praise indeed 😀
Steve.
Stephen Doyle Hey mate. Yea Jon came over for a flight with me a while back and is a really nice lad!
hi, I was wondering how you capture your audio on this. I'm about to go on my first lesson and I would like to make a video of it. many thanks.
Is the first flight lesson the same as the demo tour, or is this the step after the initial demo tour.? Because im going to have my demo tour this saturday and if i get to do all the stuff that Jose got to do im in heaven;). Im conservative with my expectations at best i expect to get to make a few turns , climb trim , if i get to take off thats a bonus;). If my first ever flight lesson is anything like this then it will be amazing;).
Good Job Captain . . . I am happy for you, keep it up . . . hey . . . don't forget about your friends in ISM, the "Mouse" still waiting to be flown by you. See ya soon Mon . . .
The 'Mouse' haha. I'm gonna come down there one day and we can make a video in it!
Anytime Captain, you are always welcome.
the guy getting the lesson is so handsome holy damn
I have as few questions. So ik I'm a bit young. I'm 14 but what age do you have to be to get into flying and how do you get into flying. I'm really interested in doing it in the future. I'm in Australia. Got any idea.
I would like this guys to be my fly instructor he keep it simple
Love this man✌
I'm also 17 and I really wanna get my first lesson
How can I contact you?
I wish you were my flight instructor. After my first flight lesson I've lost the joy to fly. My flight instructor in Thailand put so much pressure on me. He told me he was checking if I stay calm or get in panic in high pressure moments, to see if I'm suitable to become a pilot. Is this a normal procedure to check the students or just a bad habbit of a former military pilot?
every one teaches in a different manner but flying in nature is high pressure at times so just listen and learn the end goal is all the same
i really enjoyed watching your videos. I wished you were living in GA
Hugo Lopez hey Hugo! Thanks for the support!
Trim Master..!!
Im allso 17 and lerning in a flight academy in israel. and im actualy flying on the warrior II So thats amazing
Eytan Ofir man that’s really cool! Good luck with it my friend
Why did I think the Dove thing in the begging was chocolate flavored applesauce 😭😭
I’ve just turned 40 can I still have a flying lesson or am I to old now
I love flying would love to give it a try I just want to be in the sky as much as possible it’s nicer in the sky
Man... on my first two lessons i had crosswind like a mf... Takeoff and Approaches were so bad...
Lol, your vids are so funny, that handshake at the end, lol. But why dont you let him to the radio calls? That's what my CFI did on my first flight, he literally never did any calls for me.
Call 911 For Cookies thanks cookie man! I like to give my students examples of the radio calls by showing them how I do them.. then they feel more comfortable when I let them loose.. there’s a lot of info on a first flight for students to take it and I don’t like overloading them
Fair, enough :) I guess my CFI may just be a little hard core xd
I'm curious: did you have any experience listening to radio calls before you flew your first time? I talked on the radio the first time I flew too, but I'd spent a lot of time over the previous three years listening to radio calls from the ground, so I was already used to the speech pattern.
8:56 🤣🤣 watching this video so I can feel comfortable about flying my first flight
I see you have the bose a20 but what headsets did he use?
He must defenetily be my flight instructor
I take my first lesson in February
The hardest part for me was spotting the airport from the air, and other air traffic...
