Can my five year old son beat the infamous time set by (game/tech journalist) Dean Takahashi at the Cuphead tutorial?
Find out in this side by side comparison.
This was 100% the first time my Son played Cuphead in fact it's the first time he has played any platformer in his life.
He only just leveled up to 5 a couple of weeks before this recording & had been playing video games for about 6 months (mainly racers & Lego video games). His true passions at the time consisted of playing with dirt/mud, his toys & observing bugs rather then playing video games.
Dean however has been writing for 23 years about video games & I assume playing them for much longer.
(Please LIKE 👍🏻 & share the video as it really helps promote the video & the channel, sub if you want to).
I have no Issue with Dean. You don’t have to be great at games to enjoy them. It turns out you don’t even have to be great at them to write good articles on them either! Maybe that in itself reflects on the awesomeness of video games....

I imagine the only reason why the 5 year old child took “so long” was because his hands are small for the controller and he had to stop to read the instructions when they came up, unlike a certain game journalist.
Also button layout I doubt the kid memorized where’s buttons are on a controller so they had to look down to see

That's not really a valid excuse, considering that he's supposed to be a _professional_ gaming journalist.
Yeah the 5 year old's basic problem solving aced this puzzle faster than a fully grown adult who reviews games as their 9-5.
@@optillian4182 well, this professional reviewer made a review of mass effect complaining about damage spongy enemies.

I think games should have a kid mode, where the text is simplified and easy to understand. It would also help people who only know basic English of there are no language options.

Keberro but the large amount of experience can also cause problems when trying to learn something they are inexperienced in
Arthur Caminha Viana Santiago Lopes Arthur Caminha Viana Santiago Lopes have you never heard the saying, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Have you even seen an adult trying to learn new languages? Video games are kinda like languages. I don’t know all the details but I do know that kids are just easier to teach (easier to brainwash too :P). We all grew up with video games so it makes sense that we can do all this stuff easily, but this guy has not.
Arthur Caminha Viana Santiago Lopes I don’t know all the facts, I would suggest researching it yourself instead of me giving you incorrect information. It’s really just something my old foreign languages teachers have said multiple times
No one said he was dumb or less smart
They are though, they lack brain development, and therefore cannot reach the same level of comprehension of tasks.
This is an amazing example of just how smart kids are. He reads the prompt, finds the right button/s, plays around with that action until he learns it (or gets bored) and then moves on, sometimes repeating the action as he moves to the next prompt just to make sure he knows what he's doing.
And then you have Dean, whose cognitive ability is equal to that of wet spinach.

Completing the jump on the first try isn't anything notable- Anyone of mostly any age can do it. All you have to is actually read the controls and do it patiently. Neither which Dean did. Or which arguably most modern gamers do.
@BlackWatchAmbush Uh, no? The guy was obviously being serious. There isn't a hint of sarcasm or comedy in his comment.
The adorable part is that you can imagine the little kid slowly reading the instructions on every step of the tutorial, but when he gets to the parry he probably doesn't want to read something so long, so tries to figure it on his own, only to them give up, read and figure it.

Dean beat him by about 30 seconds. But it’s actually pretty unfair!
The 5 year old:
1. Takes longer to read the text.
2. Has the longer updated tutorial.
So if we run the numbers...
The 5 year old beat him by about a minute.

Also the right side was shortened
EpicGamer425 but 5 years old kid cannot read faster than us
EpicGamer425 i think the left side was shorter...?
Dean's clip was shorter due to how long it used to be
This is surprisingly interesting to see a child slowly figure things out by trial and error
Thanks :)

Oh hi there Dragonax
Well, fancy meeting you here.
The left shows someone who is careful and considerate; still learning and figuring things out, and taking their time to pay attention to the little details that most people miss, so they can understand what's going on as best as they can. Like most kids. Inquisitive and curious about the world around them.
The right shows someone who's impatient and expects everything to just happen for them. They don't want to pay attention to any of the subtleties or nuances. They just want it to happen. Like most adults. Entitled and always in a rush.
Always in a rush. That's the part that gets me. When I was a kid, I learned that most people start skim reading as a habit when they grow older, usually around adolescence, whereas kids almost always take their time. It's kinda sad how we feel more like we're wasting our time as we grow older when we stop to pay attention to things for too long.

Wait... S the one who *SLAMED HIS FACE* into the wall and took ages to figure out that you need to jump into a thing to reach high places was *NOT* a five years old, but rather a man who is used to playing games and that *CAN READ?!?*
Edit: the replies somehow turned into an argument, but let me be clear.
This is a _TUTORIAL_ . The vast majority of modern games have them - *INCLUDING TURN BASED GAMES.* In fact, depending on the company who made the game *_ESPECIALLY_* turn based games have tutorials.
For all I care this man could be dedicated to exclusively playing Barbie Fairytopia games. *FOLLOW - THE - TUTORIAL!*
Anyone who knowingly ignores the tutorial is almost inherently doomed to get beaten by any _not generous_ game.
I would have assumed a 5 years old child to ignore the tutorial in a kind of "I know what I'm doing (not)" kinda thing. Or at the very least to not pay enough attention and to struggle as a consequence.
Here lies my issue : apparently the video portraying an ignorant dashing repeatedly into a wall before figuring out that he needed to try something else was an adult.
If this is true, I DO NOT care about IGN, journalism, or whatever. This is a person with underdeveloped *basic problem solving skills.*
😂
Define "used to"
@Daru _ that wasnt the issue tho lol
@Daru _ That's not a good excuse if a literal fucking child is better than him. Yeah the guy mainly plays tactical games but that's no excuse for being completely inept at reading and applying instructions
@Daru _ that tutorial is one of the easiest part of the game and he cant even do it
The pre-release copy didn't have that platform descend. Dean would have been stuck for hours.
You can see the kid learning as he plays, reading the instructions and learning the execution of them as the tutorial is designed to allow. And then you have Takahashi on the other side. A "games" journalist.
Your kid is only about 40 seconds off from being a games journalist lol
