I wish you would make a video on how to use the 7 color block method, I would love it if you would go into details about separating the colors into 7 block of colors
That is a game changer for me. Thank you so much for sharing it. The cut out filter in Photoshop is so useful. I love painting wildlife, but I've only been painting 2 years and I struggle with values and getting that initial paint down on the canvas. I've started working on a 30" x 22" lion in acrylics which is really daunting, but this new tip is going to make all the difference. Keep up the fantastic work. Thank you.
This has been so incredibly helpful. I used similar methods last night when i tried my hand at painting a super fuzzy baby jumping spider. I wasnt actually trying to make it realistic, but just laying down the shape and shading, and using the blocking method just to get a foundation to go off of and work from there. But i realized it was so close to the real photo, without all the insane details, so i kept going. I cant believe how simple it made the entire process. And now that I've watched this video, youve put it all together for me and have really transformed my work. If that makes sense? Sorry, my English is not the best. I am just so very grateful for you and your willingness to teach others how to improve their art. I am definitely subscribing to your channel.
Thank you for sharing your amazing work and experience here. I just watched this video few weeks ago by chance and it really helped me in my next painting where I painted a deer’s face and it turned out so well. Beyond my expectations I did it. And I wanted to you a big thanks. Keep painting and keep inspiring. 😊
Bro....I love you for this video. I still can't believe you gave us this information for FREE!!! As a new artist...this is very daunting but also a very necessary step towards realism and realism is all that I am really interested in painting when it comes to picture type paintings.
This is such great knowledge, to give me hope to continue my painting. I love ❤️ this. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us to make our painting more enjoyable.
Thank you sooo much for this and all your videos. I've just started sketching again and was pondering with going into acrylics 😮. Your process makes me feel so much more confident to start something new. Thank you again!
i really wanna thank you for this technique. it would be really helpful for me this time. I am a 18 years old artist, who loves to paint and sketch as a hobby but many people reached out to me, if i do paid work and honestly what else do i need as signs from universe that it is the beginning of something big. my friend asked me if i could paint a realistic animal portrait for her. I never painted animals before tho. humans portraits to sketch are my thing and i just got into acrylic medium now. so wish me luck.
Terrific advice. I have four cream Pugs, 1 black Pug, a Daschund and a Doberman all on one large canvas. The subtle changes in the Pugs fur is driving me nuts. Going to try the cut out if I can find it on our Photoshop. Thanks for sharing your info
Thank you so much! I've been watching and subscribed to your channel to get back into painting after over 20 years of not doing it. Your videos are bringing back alot of what I knew plus stuff I never really considered or knew about. You're awesome dude! Thanks a bunch!
I tried using the Image>Adjust>Posterize function pin photoshop serves a similar purpose/process as the cutout filter but the colors seemed. bit more accurate in my experiment. Either way it's a great way to simply the process for values and shades/hues. Thanks for the tips . Your work is awesome!
Hi, thank you so much. I usualy draw animals with pen or do pyrografy but if i want improve my art with acryl colors where i usualy paint only lanscapes i can try animals your way too... thank you for great tips and shareing this tutorial.🙏 Sorry for my English is not my mother language.
I shall listen to this again. As a very beginner painter, I tend to destroy the values I painted by painting too much over them so they completely disappear. Thank you 😅
Great idea by using the cutout filter in Photoshop, but there are 3 settings for the cutout filter. You mention restricting and image to 7 colors, but what settings do you typically use for "edge simplicity" and "edge fidelity"? Many thanks and thanks for sharing!
Hello! I recently started watching your channel recently and it has helped me so much! I’m slowly figuring out how to paint fur and your tips help a lot and I recently made a cat painting (the photo of it is on my community tab if your interested how it turned out) and the videos you made have been a tremendous help
I use procreate not photoshop. Is a way in procreate to create result of the color simplification like the cutout filter? If not, is there any free app to create that same result?
I love all these tips. For shortening I would just print the 7 color version of the picture with 50% opacity, use transfer paper on an already brown toned background. I have two weeks of free time and a lot of 30x40 canvas to use 😁😁😁
Love the photo shop technique, Is there a specific photo shop you would recommend to be able to find the right colors? Is there an app you would recommend to do what you did with the lion s photo?
When I feel like quitting painting I watch one of your videos and get inspired again. Thanks
Oh no don’t quit! glad my paintings can inspire you! keep at it!
Try another drawig theme
That's how I'm feeling right now ,inspired when I watch these video .This weekend I'm going to paint a beautiful landscape
I quit 4 years ago... felt like quitting with every piece 😓😓😓

I really like this video because what I've realized is the hardest part is blocking to create a two or 3demensional painting.
This is so helpful and this will undoubtedly help me on my current project....way over my head! I love your finished work.
