during animation, the HP does decrease but the game is programmed to play the next level (the animation) after the other ends if HP is 0 during the animation game does not trigger the death animation but it allows the next animation (the final one) to play and during that time when you hit the enemy just once, it will die. edit: like in the last boss fight with Miranda the game is programmed acc. to the story the HP will become 0 (or maybe the game increases it by itself using " hp += x;" logic) , and giving the next shot will trigger the next animation and during that animation 1 shot will trigger next and the cycle continues
