A few notes on this video:
    1. I've had a fair share of interactions with Ocellus, the studio that made the game, and I encourage you all to buy their game and leave a positive review on it to raise its review scores across various platforms. They're absolutely wonderful people and they deserve every bit of support they get.
    2. This is probably going to be the last video covering anything related to Marsupilami. As much as I love this furball, I want to diversify my channel to cover all sorts of topics, not just Marsu. I hope I managed to send out this topic with a bang, though!
    3. I know that France and Belgium use a special keyboard layout called AZERTY, which is why the controls are bound that way in this game. I still think that they should make the game detect your keyboard layout or have it so that changing the left bind to A also changes it in the world map. Ocellus, please fix.
Other than that, please make sure to like, comment and subscribe! It takes no time at all and it'll help me out immensely.

My goodness... why? Why on earth do you not have like a million subscribers?
Your editing, your style, your humor, your overall presentation... it is AWESOME.
But... the way you make it personal, the way you open yourself up in such an honest way... that, my friend, is downright inspiring.
I truly hope you and your channel are going to become huge.
I definitely subscribed and will be following and eagerly awaiting your next video.
    Thank you. 👍🏻

Right here I am then, many feathers, dinosaur eggs, time trial medals, over 9000 of 'something' (though I still don't quite know what?) and even my first ever platinum trophy later with a review, as promised. So.......................... what did I think of the game then?
Honestly, I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I really really enjoyed this game, and I definitely have a 'soft spot' for it just like you. It has a lovely vibe, great music, and is just an absolute joy to play. Even with the hidden world, I do wish it was a little longer, I would love for example to see a 'snow world' or a 'dark world', but it is what it is I guess and it's still fantastic.
I'll talk about the rest of the game via my world ranking I reckon so here goes:
#4-Temple-nothing at all wrong with this world, it's a lot of fun and a great final level in 'hide and spike', controversially I think the most challenging level in the game (along with the final boss), and I'm including hidden world and even cataclysm mode in that (or maybe I'd just got a lot better by then?). The only reason is that the fist level, 'Temple O Lanterns', would be my least favourite in the game if I absolutely had to pick one, but there are no bad patches at all in this game. Very unusual even for my absolute favourite platformers
#3-City-love every single level in this wonderful opening world. My absolute favourite though is the unlockable level, "Massive destruction" with the rain. Absolutely loved this level, the theming, the music everything, I wish there had been more levels with this exact theme would happily have done 2-3 more
#2-Jungle-Obviously I pretty much have to put Hidden world #1 due to the sheer scale of it, but I absolutely adore this world and honestly consider it. It has my two favourite levels in the whole game, #2 Raft Peril, lovely relaxing level and #1 Trip to the Clouds which I think is one of my favourite video game levels ever and a masterclass in level design. The other levels are also class and Hidden world has only just won out on this I have to say
#1 Hidden World-I pretty much agree with everything you said here so don't have that much to add really. It was wonderful. I'll add one super cool thing which I don't know if everyone spotted was the mirroring of the music for the first level, Jurassic Savannah, and the final level, Volcanic panic. Same music but WAAAY WAAY more intense for volcanic panic. SUCH a cool touch. Also there was one of the trophies, the "faster than light" one in Running Down That Hill, where you had to get the time of 2:10 was a really really good challenge I thought. The whole world was great fun and wonderfully designed.
So yeah, great, great game, awesome music and wonderful feel. What would I change?
    Hmmm...
#1 Feathers/dinosaur eggs could have been a little harder to find. The only one I had any trouble with finding was the very first dinosaur egg in beyond the sky, and I'm pretty sure that in itself was just a blind spot.
#2 I'd have a couple more worlds still, mainly coz I enjoyed the worlds that were there so much though rather than a genuine criticism
This was an absolutely awesome game and I'm giving it a very solid 9/10. The only trophy I am missing is the final one of getting all the achievements in the game. eg the time trials. This is fully deliberate as I intend to play the full game through again (pretty soon actually as I'm actual writing this a few weeks after playing) as I enjoyed it so much, and want to 'forget the levels' to the extent possible so I can enjoy it fresh all over again.
Additionally it was such a pleasure to play this after the huge disappointment of Sonic Superstars which could have been a decent game if I had not been completely ruined by the horribly long bosses, so I didn't care about the lack of a final boss .Still if I count this, Sonic and Kaze (I'll plus one for that recommendation btw, it's another brilliant B-grade platformer, although I don't have the same soft spot for it as I do for this game) as one 60ish pound purchase I consider I've had good value overall.
Producers if you're reading this we'd absolutely love a sequel, I'll get my chequebook out right now in fact, especially since I feel like I actually owe you money for the experience I had with this wonderful game. Already looking forward to the replay.

This game was like my childhood crawled out of it's coffin and punched me in the face like that one Markiplier clip. I couldn't believe someone actually took their time to make a game with my favorite furry freak of nature I still have like 5 plushies, all the comic books and the freakin live action movie of.

This was an excellent review! I saw this game existed a couple months ago and just bought it recently, and it was a blast to play. As a fan of Donkey Kong Country (where i can see where some of the inspiration comes from) and Sonic, it was definitely challenging and I could relate to all the criticisms about the game. It was challenging, fun, but could use some more bosses. I'd absolutely love a sequel for this game because it's so damn fun to come back to.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! What I appreciate even more though is the sheer level of polish the team put in despite having next to no budget to work with. In our interactions, they said the publisher liked the game itself and the reception from players, so they’ll be working on more projects. We’ll see how that turns out!

I have no issue with the "99 lives". I play the game with a controller and that requires a lot of precise controls which makes the game very challenging. also, it could be that I'm not a very talented gamer. Anyway, I have dipped under 90 lives, especially with the last levels which I think are insane. The last platforms I played were the one on the Super Nintendo (Donkey Kong country, Mario world), and I don't remember struggling as much as I have with the last levels of this game.

    • @houbsmars

Fair enough, everyone is at their own level. Though I feel like making you lose the fruits on taking damage while still keeping the 100 fruits = +1 life system would be much more engaging than “you have 99 lives, feel free to throw yourself at the wall”. It’d also make you feel awesome for finally cracking the whole level and performing an amazing string.

I played It not expecting much but It was truly a nice surprise. I also enjoyed the fact It was not so long. But If you enjoyed this one I would recommend playing Kaze and the Wild Masks. It is a very similar game but even superior in my honest opinion

This is great. I'm a huge platform fan with a PS4 but having done all the classics e.g Crash/Spyro/Sonic/ Rayman etc I really wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch for DK Tropical Freeze but I can't really afford the console and the game at the moment, and you may have just saved my bacon with this.
I thought after Super Lucky's Tale I'd found the last of the 'great but underrated PS4 platformers', but it looks like there are more after all. I had never heard of this game until now but here we are :)
I'll be buying the game this weekend, 100%ing, and leaving a review here when done (hopefully take me a while :) ). Thanks again.

I feel you on the whole Nintendo Switch thing. Every year I want to get it to play one game or another but my money ends up being better spent elsewhere.
If you really want to get one, try getting one second hand in great condition. It will be much cheaper than buying it brand new because of how old the Switch is by now.

Thank you! My approach to making my videos was “Make it as good as you can now because that’ll give you a great point of reference to improve later”. So I knew I had to learn, and learn quickly. The majority of the things you see in this one was a first-time experience for me.
The hardest part is accepting the fact that this is the best I can do now and I will always do better next time.
