This looks like a lot of fun, and as for homages to Donkey Kong Country, this appeals way more to me than Yooka Laylee. Also glad it's getting an official physical release, a definite grab for me.
I don't consider Impossible Lair a spiritual love letter to DKC since it feels more like something Playtonic/the original devs of DKC were more comfortable with making, which resulted in it's own charming identity and a phenomenal 2D platformer. Kaze seems to be something diehard fans of DKC made and that's neato
DKC doesn't look dated at all as long as they're not stretching the image. I'd be really interested to see the prerendered sprite technique in a modern context.
Glad to see DKC inspired games, at times it seems Sonic is the only classic platform series that gets attention from anyone talented, from hacks, fangames and games inspired by it
As someone that absolutely loves Donkey Kong Country, I'll likely check this out. I'm always happy to see more games inspired by one of my favorite games of all time.

Okay, let's summarize... Get the ounce of power-ups from Donkey Kong Country characters and add Sonic The Hedgehog motive. Next, Add some Peppino's Agility from Pizza Tower and mix with Rayman's boss level theme. At the end, Sprinkle with some extra Nitrome Pixels, et Voila! You've got a very special game with adorable (and mixed-from-Miles-,,,Tails'''-Prower-and-Jazz-JackRabbit) character.
"If it ain't broken, don't fix it". I see NO PROBLEM with this game "copying" Donkey Kong games, while also adding its own "twist/flavor" to it. Absolutely LOVE IT! Although, being priced at $29.99 (which is *double* the cost of a game like *Freedom Planet* which is priced at $14.99) is my only *barrier to entry.* (I think I will wait for a *50% discount/sale* in the future until I can finally afford it)
This game honestly seems quite dope, and reminds me of Freedom Planet. Though it’s of course based on DKC rather than Sonic, but I still might decide to pick it up regardless.

After being disapointed with Freedom Planet, I was on the fence with this one. Bought Kaze two days ago and I'm happy to say I LOVE IT!!! It looks cute , but don't be fooled. I'm surprised no one is picking up on the similarities with Klonoa I mean the long eared protagonist, the Use of gems as Collectables, A plot catalyzed by a magical ring that contains the heroes best friend the fact that the first level seems to be a village with a windmill. Hell the characters name is literally Japanese for wind and Klonoa is known in Japan as Kaze no Klonoa or Klonoa of the Wind.

Having had seen this review and finding out about this game today I was super hyped to get it on my Switch. Upon going to the store and seeing DLC that is advertised as being gone forever now even for the delayed physical versions I am now about the opposite. I would have been willing to throw a few more dollars at them for said DLC but being locked off from content forever like this is something I really don't support and is NOT a thing indie devs should be doing with their games imo.
Didn't know about this game. Not really a fan of the protagonist but it looks like a really good platformer so I'll be giving it a shot. We really need a new DKC game!

Another part of why DKC works so well is the theming. Apes/monkeys in a jungle vs other animals with music to match. The theming here is uh...rabbit vs vegetables ?
Agreed. The enemies look uninspired... No matter how good the platforming is here, DKC was as special as it was due to the personality of its cast of characters, both playable, and enemies. Which, on another topic, is why I love Super Mario Bros 3 so much - the introduction of the koopalings gave it so much personality. On a similar note - how do you feel about Returns and Tropical Freeze? I enjoyed both, but the omissions of the Kremlings took a LOT away for me - hope they make a comeback if future games in the series are made.
@@andyc6542 I agree with you. Mechanically DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze are solid and challenging as platformers, but the enemy designs fell short without kremlings. And some enemy designs got a little too cartoony, where (at least DKC 1 and 2) a lot of enemies seemed semi-rooted in reality with only a few cartoony features.

Not only is the gameplay quite challenging yet fun, but the titular character is also really cute and appealing (especially more so than Hat Kid from "A Hat In Time"), so this game was definitely able to pique my interest for sure! ^^

Brazilians just keep bringing back the retro feels. First Horizon Chase Turbo and now with Kaze. I also believe Blazing Chrome is from a brazilian developer too. I don't think this remind me of DKC, but its still good. And Kaze (the mc) remind me somehow of Klonoa, which btw needs a remake along with Croc.
Hi all, just a tip on this one... as this is a very positive score for a game many might not know about, it might be worth changing the title to reflect how great you think it is, such as 'Kaze - A Fantastic new Platformer for the Switch' (obviously not as basic and crap as that though). This way people might see the video and watch it, rather than see the current thumbnail and title and think "Ah well it's probably not worth it, looks like a budget game" or something. Just my two pennies!

Kaze and Yooka Laylee are games but DKC will always for me be the most nostalgic beginning with the original snes trilogy and the soundtrack composed by David Wise. DKC2 for example was a brilliant work of art

I didn't liked the enemy design, food itens attacking feels a little generic to me. But I can commend for the level design displayed on the review, looks awesome and satisfying to play.

It always does bug me when people knock a game for being an imitation of another. If a game imitates another at a high enough quality then it’s a good game and one to naturally recommend to those who like the game being imitated. Not to mention that this sort of thing is how we get new genres and subgenres. PS: these sorts of indie games are also how we essentially get sequels to some of our favorite older games. Better than nothing especially when it’s a good game, right?
Sure, this game might have been inspired by the Donkey Country series games but this game is also similar to the two games: Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap(the remake of Wonder boy III: The Dragon's Trap). and Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.
So is it a good game? Its first time i heard about it. It reminds me more of tiny toons buster bunny and Dk tropical freeze and Sne Donkey kong series.

I did. Since it was first announced I noted he looked like Klonoa, which btw I need a remake of both Klonoa and Croc.

Yeah same I don't like open world platformers like Sypro and Mario Odyssey. I'd rather linear shit like this and Crash Bandicoot

DonkeyKongCountry meets Kid Chameleon. Kid Chameleon was a platformer on Sega Genesis for those that dont know. It awsome.

If you mix Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose, Ristar, Rayman and Donkey Kong Country together you get this (in a good way). Love it!
