This movie woke me up. I didn't know about these trails, PCT, AT, CDT, and now I've becoming very interested in trying this adventure. When the covid-19 situation becomes better under control, I plan on doing the PCT.
I've been to Forester Pass it's 13,200 feet elevation. Very STEEP, had to cross over a patch of snow in August. It's where Kings Canyon National park changes into Inyo National Forrest, at least going the direction we were. We continued on the John Muir Trail to the summit of the highest mountain in the lower 48, which is Mt. Whitney. Every year 2/3 of the people who attempt to make the summit don't make it. We trained for almost a year and were blessed with great weather and made the summit. I wouldn't trade it for anything. At 50 , for me it was a once in a lifetime experience. Watching the Perseid meteor shower at high elevation with no light pollution was amazing. We only did about 54 miles though 9 days. Loved it
@@recoveringsoul755 2019? - I went the JMT nobo and was on Forester Pass on August 4th in the morning. The steep southern side with its switchbacks was practically free of snow, just a little patch in the upper part of the chute.
@@recoveringsoul755 oh, so long ago... - nobo = northbound - in 2009 you could just walk into the rangers' office in Yosemite and claim a (non-quota) permit, in 2019 I was unsuccessful in the permit reservation lottery for 6 weeks, so I opted for northbound, started from the Horseshoe Meadow campground south of Lone Pine, and walked up to Yosemite. - Jets: maybe once or twice, not regularily. BTW, most snow was around Muir Pass, maybe 1-2 miles, in mid August.
Then do it!! I've been howling at the moon since I was a kid. We went camping for every family vacation and if there was a full moon my parents would start howling and we kids would join in. I tried to get my kids to do it, and they looked at me funny and say "Mom you're weird". Feels great, better if you're out in nature though. Don't lose your childhood spark
They went overboard on 'Monster'. If they were going to make it look that big they should have made it that heavy. It is clear that it is full of balloons.
I think the like it, they need it. I hiked the PCT 2019 (complete) and it is a lot of trailwork (expensive) and a lot of volunteers help. They have a regulation, that only 50 people can start every day.
What the heck kind of pack is she carrying, it looks like a 150 lbs pack. Nobody on the PCT carries a pack like that ,come on man. 10 lbs and below ultra light. 20 to 10 lbs light pack, that's base weight. I've hiked sections of the PCT you want to get as light as possible, with food and water ,30 / 35 lbs. Great promotion for the trail1🏕☕
That’s the point. She calls her pack ‘Monster’ in the book. She had never done a hike before and no trial with it packed. She can barely stand up putting it on but gets help on the trail to lighten it.

@@Henning_Rech 2009 for me and was over the pass Aug 11th. What is "nobo"? Did you hear those military jets every afternoon overhead?

like your head?
Il libro è molto avvincente. Ammiro Cheryl Strayed che ha fatto questo percorso da sola.
she's definitely not an ultralight folk

It normallt starts in early april though.
I wonder if either of them ever have followed another hikers journey ? I hope so.
Here is a young girl and two guys picked up along the way, daily Vlog doing the whole PCT trail now! ruclips.net/video/t7D-DdZ5uQQ/видео.html
I thought they didn't like the publicity because inspire a lot of inexperienced people to try.. consequently more accidents .. more inconveniences..

Not sure what the movie is about... BUT no one carries that much STUFF / WEIGHT while thru hiking.
Steve Mazz that’s half of the point of the movie
Read her book. She did. She called her backpack "Monster".
Cheryl Strayed did.
You do if it's the 90's and there's no internet and you start the hike in complete ignorance.
Watch the movie or read the book. Understanding will come!
Adam Sandler comedian
The movie sucks and is not about hiking the pct
you suck! dik
Reese Witherspoon is sooo annoying. I firmly dislike when Hollywood interferes with the realness of the world.
I know someone who is even more annoying though.
Hollywood is based on real world stories a lot of the time. You're crazy.
