    Wow these impulse pickups add so much definition and clarity to the tone ! I think it's the first time I hear them loaded in a Bass VI, and while being a sucker for single coil pickups, I admit there's a significant improvement here. Great video Brendon, I hope you're doing well :)

    As someone who owns a Bass VI, I understand the frustration with the lack of note definition and scratchy sound, so I get why you prefer it. It is harder to understand why it's preferred if you don't own one. I am feeling convinced to swap to a humbucker. I put a hot rail in the bridge and it is a huge improvement, but I have a feeling an actual humbucker would be even more of that goodness. Also that clean playing is very beautiful

    I really dig the humbucker and the articulation of the impulse with the low tunings. I’m planning on getting this bass vi myself but I might go with what your luthier was talking about and get a Dimarzio Tone Zone or Fast Track and see how that sounds because I think it’d be interesting.
    I’m not downplaying your mod or anything at all I promise because your tone is KILLER, but I wanna see how the rails pickup could sound. And to that note I think that’s what Varials did for their song “.50” with a single coil impulse pickup

      Oh that’s sick. Yeah part of me was wondering if the Impulse single coils would be the best of both worlds but when asking Josh he mentioned that the single coils would still be noisy, by nature, and that I should do the humbucker. I wish I had endless money to try every combo haha

    Luckily, I got the Subzero Rogue Bass VI instead of the Squier, which already has a dual humbucker routing (I anticipated your struggles) I was going to order a Lundgren M6 for the bridge, it's about $300 CAD so just a bit more than the BK Impulse. Had a similar experience with SweetWater when i was looking at getting the SRC6MS and having them install EMG before shipping. First sales engineer tried to talk me out of it citing the guitar would be un returnable, when i stated i was aware of that and fine, then it was don't you want to play it first before deciding on pickups (i got the vibe there was some anti active bias here) then eventually it was we won't do it because it requires routing. Left a bad enough taste in my mouth i ended up getting the guitar elsewhere. I demoed the MS elsewhere to know the bass pickups in it would get replaced but the sales engineer din't seem to believe i had researched what i wanted.

    Unrelated to this video...I took your advice and bought Yamz for ML drums on their black Friday sale. Best decision I ever made. Thank you for your recommendation. On most of these examples in this video I prefer the stock tone. It's brighter and pops out of the mix more.

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  18 дней назад +1

      Thank you so much! I personally love the Yamz. I ended up taking that video down because I forgot to mention some of the flaws, like you can't use it in pro tools and you can't separate kick in and out, snare top bottom etc, also because I called them "the best" and a lot of people made the great point that I haven't tried A LOT of the drum vsts out there so it's not fair for me to call them the "best". BUT, I still love them and use them on my personal tracks because they're my favourite drum tones I've ever used.
      And I definitely see where you're coming from. It's hard to say because the amp tone was created for the stock pickups and copied to the Impulse. I think if I created the tone for the Impulse the results may be different.

    • @michaelj.anderson1116
      @michaelj.anderson1116 18 дней назад

      @@BrendonKPadjasek yeah that's fair. With the yamz though I found that I don't have to do a lot of extra processing and also don't separate them like I would other drum vst's and I finally get that kick drum thud to poke out of the mix. Been struggling with that for a long while. With ML drums it just naturally happened on it's own. I didn't really need to mess with it a bunch. Just levels and saturation to taste and it hits like I want.
      Oh man, yeah...that totally makes sense. If you were to dial in the amp for each pickup that would make more of a different, I think and my opinion may change.

    I know it's a bummer to do it now since you've gone through the process recently, but it's an easy task and you can do it yourself for sure.
    What if you had a push pull that could coil split or have the humbucker in parallel instead of series? It would open up new tonal character and possibilities.
    Pro tip: go for a 1meg push pull volume pot, it let's more high end pass through, good for clarity and definition.

    the people saying it “sounds better” with the old pickup are just hearing more top end and less low mids because it’s a single coil, which tricks your ears into thinking it’s a better sound.
    In the video though, he shows pretty clear examples of how the fundamental note of what he’s playing translates way more effectively with the humbucker, which is much more important from an audio engineering and songwriting perspective. He could easily EQ match his guitar DI before the amp so that the new pickup has a similar EQ curve to the old single coil, and then he’d have the best of both sounds. But I don’t think that was the point of this video lol

      @@BrendonKPadjasek just sounds kind of dead / hollow. They also kind of sucked to deal with which is another story. it's weird because I have other guitars that came with ET that sound fine; I'm still an ET stan for recording at the end of the day but I do regret that one a little.

      Yeah it’s interesting knowing what could have been haha. I guess maybe they had to carve out too much wood out of the guitar and that killed some of the tone? Not exactly sure how ever tune works

    What do you think about Fishman Fluence’s instead of the impulse? I’m leaning for a more deathcore style of writing with this guitar and I know nothing of the bareknuckle impulses.

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  17 дней назад +1

      Hmm I’m not sure tbh. I haven’t owned or played a guitar with fishmans so I’m not sure. I have 3 guitars with different bare knuckle pickups and k love them all. I have the pain killers in one 7 string, the aftermath in another and now the impulse in this. I love them. Amazing quality. I’m sure fishmans are sick too though

      @ I think I might just play it safe and go with the Bareknuckle then. I feel like adding the active element to it is just over complicating it, thank you for getting back to me man! Already called a shop and had the guy telling me to use a different pickup as well 😂. Also told me I won’t be able to find a pick guard so I wanted to ask one last thing. Did you just have your guy cut your original one to fit the humbucker?

    Question for ya :
    I know in previous videos you had mentioned a couple times that the output of the stock guitar was extremely low compared to other guitars.
    With upgrading the pickup, did you see much of a different in that area?

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  18 дней назад +1

      Thanks for asking! Totally forgot to mention that. There’s not much of a difference tbh, maybe a few db, but I think now that I can pick closer to the bridge pickup and get great results it’s definitely louder when I need to do single notes/ bends. It was definitely quiet as hell and noisier when picking over the middle pick up to get any useable note. Can’t believe I didn’t mention that either. My bay

    • @BrendonKPadjasek

      Not really no. I just throw a gain/ Overdrive plugin before and let er rip. If I need to I’ll lower or increase the input gain but I usually leave it to +2 and leave it as is. I might do an in depth tone creation with the plugin soon

    I bought that exact guitar in part for this channel and it's been an adventure, to say the least, I haven't put it down since!
    But I have a question, my intonation with the sixth string is all over the place and I'm not that low. I'm at double D standard. Picking on it makes it go waaay higher than its actual tuning. Any advice on that? Thanks!

      @ I just got the 100 - 24 gauge from Fender. What do you think? Hope it holds up better than the ones that came by default when I bought it hahah. Also, haven’t tried the flipped neck trick, but once I try to intonate it again with the new strings, I’ll see how it holds up, and if not, I’ll flip it!

    I would keep it stock myself, I like the stock pickups brightness and wildness. the barenuckle pickup sounds a lot more composed if that makes sense, it sounds way more sofisticated actually. Both sound amazing, but I do love the single coil sound, albeit a little lost goosey sounding.

    • @BrendonKPadjasek
      @BrendonKPadjasek  18 дней назад

      That actually makes a lot of sense. Since the pick up is “composed” for low tuning and for being a guitar where, as fender describes, the instrument is meant to be treated as a bass. It just happens that those stock pickups sound amazing for metal
