Bought my 86 XLT in july last year with less than 60k miles on it... I've considered selling it many times, but whenever I do drive it... That's when I say "I gotta keep this thing. This is so fun to drive around in"
I got my dads 87 shortbed 2wd is damn close if not cleaner in some aspects. When he passed I got it. I remember being a kid when he special ordered it from ford in late 86. 2.9 XLT 5 speed.
Had one a long time ago, loved it. Recently bought another one and I'm so happy. Blocks didn't crack from overheating, heads did. Trans is a 5 speed Mitsubishi...they were ok, the Mazda 5 spd was used from 88 on and was an improvement. You can easily swap out the Mit for the Mazda. Great mpg and low maintenance cost on a very useful and reliable little truck!
Not kidding, I worked with a guy back in the 90's who had one of these and he drove it 47 miles one way back and forth to work everyday as well as pulled his golf cart on a trailer on weekends and I think when he sold it, that thing had well over 300k miles on it and he rarely had any problems.
I had a new 87 Bronco II 2.9L and then a new 91 STX 4x4 4.0L probably before you were born! Loved them both. I off roaded both extensively bone stock. Glad to see you appreciate these old designs.
Beautiful old truck. I have one currently almost identical white with blue stx. These trucks are great off road with 30x9.5 off road tires. Billy goat low and great articulation :)
I bought a New Ranger in 1984 and then another in 1992 with 4X4, both where long lasting cheap to operate trucks. One thing you fail to mention are the vent windows, it was a very rare option on the Rangers.
Beautiful truck. I had an 84 single cab 4 banger in high school and college in the mid 90s. Great first vehicle that got me where I needed to go and kept me mostly out of trouble.
had mine since 97. Original owner had leaf spring added and 15" tires added when new. A weakness is original clutch being under beefy. Will fry clutch if one treats it like a full size truck when snow get heavy. K&N air filter and running premium gas helps greatly.
I got one for $300 bucks NOTHING original accept maybe the oil! Lol came with a blue cab black bed and white doors from all different years and came on custom paddle tires.. it was clapped out! But everything worked even 4x4 so I painted it all 1 color got new tires and drove it for 8 years daily and still have it
I swear to goodness I was with an old high school friend and in his dads fairly new 86 ranger with that little 6 almost exactly like the one so well presented here we did a wheelie and it only took him 5 tries but he most definitely did a wheelie and wow his dad was amazed that it did it and that we were dumb enough to do it in his baby and he ran that truck for almost 20 years after that
@hodsonmotors I’m looking at an 87 ranger 4x4 with the 2.9 and an automatic with only 116k miles on it, would this truck be good to buy as a a first truck?
I have an 1989 STX, and it's real deal STX has the factory suspension lift kit, factory roll bar, extended cab, sport seats,, I bought it almost 20 years ago,, I have never seen another 89 STX,, damn things are almost unicorns
I have an 83 2wd with the 2.8 v6 with solid lifters. I have heart of the 2.8 and 2.9 v6's cracking the heads from overheating, but haven't heard about the blocks actually cracking? I've put 2 sets of heads on mine, its currently got around 430 000 km's on it and still going strong. Gets average fuel mileage of 30 cdn gallons!
I have never seen an extended cab 83-86 ranger, I have an 84 and 86, both extended bed. I've seen extended beds and short beds but never an extended cab before the 87.
Cool Ranger! Love it, such a classic! Is it 100% confirmed that this has a Mazda trans, as opposed to the Mitsubishi trans? And any hints as to how much corrosion lives underneath this truck?
You know, now that you mention it, I need to verify and correct myself if it's the Mitsubishi or the Mazda trans. However, tomorrow it's going on the lift for new trans mount, I will take lots of pics underneath and post them to the Instagram/Facebook!
I just bought an 83 Ranger xlt 2.3 4 cyl automatic with 123 000 km in absolutely mint condition sadly shes drinking oil like a beast and im waiting to see the extent of the issue .
i have a 83 ranger, love it to bits, but it has no power out of the 2.8 v6, it also is a lifter tick machine. im probably trading it for a 87 bricknose f-250 6.9 soon because i cant beat on it, its wayy to nice to beat on.
I wish I knew how awesome 1st Gen Rangers were when shopping for my truck. Consider me jealous of whoever won this gem! Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to be shopping around Marketplace…
Can you give me the details (width, backspacing) of the rims you bought? It's hard to get rims for the Gen 1 that don't stick out past the fenders in front.
Hey, can’t please everyone. We will always try to show as much of the truck as we can. We also post a ton on our website and instagram so you can check that out too.

For a 38yr old truck it looks amazing! Probably one of a kind in existence LOL

I have an 89 STX,,, never seen another one
My first car was an 86 standard cab. Absolutely loved this truck. Wasn’t much for off-road but was a tank in the snow!
That’s awesome!
Ranger is a good off road truck ,owned several , never had a 4wd , just 2 wd , went anywhere I wanted to ,what you describe sounds like an S-10 .

The only clean bullnosed Ranger in existence lol

mine currently has 399,918 and the trans finally crapped out so these things are crazy
I had a new 87 Bronco II 2.9L and then a new 91 STX 4x4 4.0L probably before you were born! Loved them both. I off roaded both extensively bone stock. Glad to see you appreciate these old designs.
Ford and Toyota trucks are unbeatable. I'll soon be buying a new Ranger here in Brazil and am looking forward to it.
Beautiful old truck. I have one currently almost identical white with blue stx. These trucks are great off road with 30x9.5 off road tires. Billy goat low and great articulation

I daily one. 2.9l bored to a 3.5L with a 5speed. She's stout. Love it. I did do a 2inch lift, 31x10.50x15.

I can’t wait to win this on Friday. I had a 87 standard cab short box in high school. Thing was such a turd but I loved it.
Got one sorta like this. Just needs new paint from sun damage. Rebuilding the engine now. It’s for sale if anyone’s interested
Its the heads that crack not the block...

I love that ranger, beautiful truck
89 all the way 4x4 2.9
Stock is beautiful, or maybe a 6" lift and some 33" Tsl Thornbirds 🤘🏻
This one was in too good of shape to modify too much so we decided to just clean it up to it's full glory!
That is a really nice truck!
Bro didn't take a breath for 15 minutes lol. Nice truck though :)
Another killer truck!
Thank you!
I'm in! 👍
This is the truck I need
It will out last any thing that comes out of a Ford plant right now. So, is it worth 40K, maybe.😅
I bought an 87 Ranger brand new and loved it. Mine was silver with dark grey on the bottom. I cant remember why I sold it. Id like to find another.

FORD RANGER
😂😂😂
What size tires are on there?
I want this ranger😢😭
Nice
rip paul walker
How’s the truck so far? Debating on getting one that’s mint for $4k
That's a steal.
Great little truck. What would a turbo or a super charger do in terms of horsepower and torque?
swap in some stronger internals and I bet you could get a decent hp gain with low boost
84 to 88 the best
Are customers eligible to win more than once/ win more than one giveaway?
Nope. At least according to the current give away rules it states if you have won previous giveaways you are not eligible
@@Chiefthepup Thanks. I guess I’ll be skipping out on this Ranger.
If you won a grand prize (truck/money) you are not eligible but mini prize (merch/products) winners are still eligible.
Tire size?
30” Hancook A/Ts on 15” wheels
Sell it to me!!
