Looking great bud and i wouldn't worry too much about trimming the roots. Usually maples are as tough as old boots and recover well.
Re the leaf size, leaves can be reduced over time. I've reduced the leaf size of a Sycamore by nearly 4 times 😮

That’s amazing ! I have only managed to reduce the leaf size of a Chinese elm and a ficus thus far (not very impressive). I think the key is a properly sized pot and management of growth. I will persist in reducing this one !

You've gone hard on the roots but it'll reward you with a good root flare one day mate. I love the leaf on this variety. Nice one 💪🌳

Have to be relentless although mindful when it comes to pruning. The implications of not pruning back hard can sometimes set people back years in terms of development. Yeah I love this variety to I just wish they where smaller leafs 😂 thanks for watching as always Alex

I tried this with Jordan when I first started growing and it did not respond well. I hope yours does! While I think some cultivars are not as vigorous or ideal for bonsai, I still try as well. I chalk a lot of my failures to the learning curve of bonsai.

I can but try… if it doesn’t work atleast I know for the future ! That’s how I see this game sometimes. Your right certain cultivars work much better but it’s always worth a go. Thanks for watching
