I ended up finding a dealership willing to change out my parts because I could not get my airbag to release for anything. The first KIA Service Center that I contacted refused to do the job after asking "Why?" The second one never asked why and just did what I asked them to do. They charged me $140.05 for the labor. Still WAY worth the money. I could tell on the 2.5-hour trip home that adding cruise control had a huge impact on my gas mileage and it will also keep me from getting an insane speeding ticket because I lost track of my speed. Thank you for your video! So many people didn't believe it would work. When they finished, I couldn't wait to drive my car out of their garage and press the "On" button. So AWESOME when I saw the Cruise light come on and even better when I got on the interstate and engaged it!!! I'm 50 and I felt as giddy as a child FINALLY having cruise control in this little car! :)
Very happy for you. I did get about 44 mile to the galllon once going from Reno Nevada to just north of Sacramento. It was a 6 speed manual! Enjoy your ride!

i am from jordan ,i bought a used steering and took off the cruise control , tell buttons , volume+ /- , and cable .then i installed them on my oem lx steering after i checked that spring clock is 14 channel .now everything works fine.i did not disconnect battery,but was vvvv careful when dismantling airbag.thank you for the great video.it was fun to do it.
Anybody worried about taking steering wheel off? Don’t be. It was so easy. Borrowed a puller from Auto store and did it. On my 2016 Kia Rio is was a 21mm nut. Perfect. Great video
Works Perfect. I work at a collision center and when I called the dealer for these parts they told me that this wouldn't work and even the three parts they had were going to cost me about $50 more at a vender cost than the ebay deal for the kit. Thanks for the help.
21mm socket was too small in my 2013 Rio. I ended up using an opened end 7/8 wrench with another wrench to aid in breaking it loose. Didn't need Steering wheel puller. Thanx for the video

Just put my kit in and works well. A few things to watch out for - 1. Before you take off the steering wheel nut, mark a straight line with felt tip from the top of the metal surround of the wheel post, across the nut, top of the steering wheel 'post', across the bottom of the nut and across the bottom of the metal surround. You now can undo the nut, and take off the steering wheel, and place it BACK on knowing that it is properly placed (straight) when you line the felt tip lines up after tightening it back on. It will also help you torque the nut down as the felt tip lines will all 'line up' when you're done. 2. After removing steering wheel nut, and take off the wheel, only take it off PART WAY, and unclip the 'clock spring' clip. If you yank the steering wheel off too far, the top of the 'clock spring' will follow, and unwind the whole spring, and you'll need to rewind it. 3. Note that the large clips on the harness, while the same plastic ends, have a smaller number of wires in the left side (radio volume switch side) and nearly twice the wires going into the cruise control (right hand side) clip. I put mine in backwards, and it didn't work, not realizing that while the plastic clips will go into either socket, the correct one needs to go into the correct button holder. 4. Pull the airbag fuses - #5/#6 on the passenger side (USA), driver's side in Australia in the cabin. Enjoy

Well done man! Found a steering wheel and clock spring from a wreckers and did a swap for my girlfriend's 2011 cerato/forte auto six speed, which had standard steering wheel with no controls at all. Managed to get audio controls and the shift pedals behind the "new" wheel to work. Can't get the cruise to light up at all. The wheel has a nice leather wrap so that's a plus ; ) If anyone has any ideas on anything else that maybe be missing please let me know.
2014 Kia Rio LX, took airbag off to confirm 14CH Clock spring and then re-installed airbag.. (took fuses 5 and 6 out of the loop first) Ordered the entire steering wheel from Asia off e-bay.. got it today installed in 20 min no wheel puller needed! Test drove and now I have the cruise control the dealers said was impossible to get... Go for it guys you can do it. Nice post Dirtbillys nv
Just curious if you plan on installing the heated steering wheel module and loom at some point. Would be interesting to see how long it would take to complete.. I know it's simply adding in a loom and a heating module..

After installing the cruise control, do the other buttons still work? I suppose if you don't have Bluetooth, the ones that control your phone will not work, but do the ones that control the trip odometer and toggle between the different odometer options still work? Can you still switch between the trip odometers and view the other information that is provided?
I got a 2010 Magentis (OPTIMA) and my current harness have only audio wires, and missing 3 wires in the white connector pins that are supposed to go to the cruise button. I can't find the harness anywhere, even with PART NO, KORAPS etc... you have any suggestions? I ordered harness for 2006-2012 CARNIVAL since it look in the picture the same as mine, hope it would work, but i hope you have a suggestion if it doesnt. p.s. are you sure in that year i have all the parts except for the wires and button in the steering? (i know i have an electronic throttle and pedals switches that stop the cruise) and maybe you can get me the name of the guy you bought from?

Hi Roger, I didn't have to do anything to the engine. Its called " Drive by wire". The computer has the program so all you have to do is add the steering wheel parts.
I'm not able to get this kit to work. My mechanic installed the kit and the buttons do not work. Pressing them doesn't enable any functions. When I asked the buyer they said for the American kia model I need to buy a new clock spring for compatibility. It doesn't work even after installing the new clock spring. Can you please help?
thanks for the very informative video. I recently bought a Rio 2016 with power lock and power windows but up to there then I only have the standard equipment. So I have some questions. I want to install cruise control so bad and I have seen plenty videos for the installation I also saw on some Kia forums that it can be done and that the wiring is there as you and everybody else are saying but because I didn't want to lose my seven years warranty I asked a KIA dealer here in greece and he told me that it cannot be done and the I asked another and someone else and so I asked 15 different companies here in Greece (KIA official dealers). They all told me that it is not possible to add just the switch. Everyone told me that it is not compitable with the master control of the car .(I hope I am saying that right and that you understand what I want to say). So have you got any suggestions please. I dont want to spend money buying the part and either it does not fit or even if it works I lose the warranty. Is there anything I can do to persuade the dealers? I also checked for contact info with the company headquarters in Korea to ask them directly but I could not find something
The computer of the car should be programed the same as all the kias. I ask my dealer the same questions and got the same answers. I got the parts from ebay, installed them and it worked. All you can do is try. If your worried about your warranty take it out if you go to the dealer.
This si so great. I like the manual windows, locks etc. It is the lac of Cruise and Blue Tooth that I am not thrilled with. A Fix! Wait, do I need to change the head unit to use Blue Tooth? I thought the wheel with cruise was Leather? Is it? Might be different in their markets. I will look into a complete wheel.
I know you have to change the stereo for the blue tooth to work. Get one from ebay or junk yard. Mabe something in the steering That you need to change to for the blue tooth.

Hi Rafael, Did you install the wiring harness? You should have a new harness that with be used with the new buttons. Did you order a kit or ujst the bottons?

+danish Jebran Assuming 2016 is the same as my 2015, no reprogramming is necessary. At least this car (US model) the cruise indicator lamp on the dash does not work, but that's not an issue as long as cruise works as it should. After install I noticed that my cruise sometimes will NOT activate, I believe that is because the connectors had to be re-pinned, and they are very difficult to de-pin without a proper tool, which I didn't have, and may have allowed a bad connection. It's definitely not a programming issue, when it works (which is 95% of the time, and I use it a LOT) it works great. By the way, steering wheel remover was not needed in my case. Remove the nut holding it on, pull up on one side of the wheel, and hit opposite side of wheel with other hand. Reverse hands, repeat. Mine just popped off. Obviously I may have been lucky, but was free and easy. Also getting the wheel aligned correctly was difficult, leave airbag off afterwards and do a test drive to make sure wheel is centered.

I live in Reno Nevada and my kia dealer said the same thing. Look on line for a kia forum, lots of info from kia owners. That's how I new I could put cruise in my Rio.. Also look on ebay for you steering wheel parts for the cruise control. Should be about the same. The computer in the car should be programed for the cruise but just not have the buttons. Do your home work befor buying anything, and only buy genuine parts from kia.

However, at this point I'll be doing the attempt by the grace of (insert religion here). It a $70 part. If all else fails I'll resale on eBay. Wish me luck. Blake Valdez You ever get yours to work? In the same boat, never taken an airbag column apart before, there is *nothing* out there for the '14-15 Forte, and the wheel is definitely different than all other Kia videos/instructions I've found. Seller on eBay told me that you have to repin one of the plugs, I assume the clock spring one (hard to tell from photo until I get the airbag out/wheel off), but that is no big deal. Note that if you don't have the fancy LCD screen setup (just base radio) you'll want to swap the button assembly on the lower right portion of the wheel....cruise only came with the upper tiered radio/screen setup, and you lose the trip functions if you don't swap that assembly. Upper tier radio options did trip setup on the display, not the cluster. Physically same size where you press the buttons, can only assume the switches will swap, until I figure out how to remove the airbag/wheel.

I bought an audio control+hands free+ cruise control for my 2014 LX Rio, my car only came with reset and the trip buttons, for this change you need to know this First: *What clock Spring do you have in your car, 7 CH, 14 CH or 18 CH. This is very important. *How many plugs do your airbag comes with. Two Plugs or Only one. With this answered. The you need to read this. It does not matter what version of the RIO you have LX, SX, diesel and so on. If you have a 7CH clock Spring you need To change it to a 14 CH clock Spring. If you don´t change it, the buttons will never work. If you have the 18 CH clock Spring 8 (heated steering wheel option) you only need to swap the buttons. For the Airbag plugs: IF you are going to swap the clock spring be sure to buy the correct one for your car ( one plug or two plugs). As far as I know yo can do the same for the Soul, FORTE, CADENZA, SPORTAGE and the Hyundai brothers. Just be sure to check for the Clock spring and airbag plug If you need pictures just email me. I know you have to change the stereo for the blue tooth to work. Get one from ebay or junk yard. Mabe something in the steering That you need to change to for the blue tooth.

Thanks Gulbahar Khan, the center console would be a Great addition. I found it on ebay. You will have to find out how to get the gear shifter off, as I do not know. Only thing left should be a bunch of screws.

The screws are on the back side of the steering wheel.

As long as it didn't deploy and you firmly plugged it back in their shouldn't be a problem. I don't know of any test to test it!

I did the same thing as you did (just put the buttons) on a 2010 Kia Soul (This car here in Brazil also comes without cruise control buttons) and definitely nothing works.

Hi Rafael, Did you install the wiring harness? You should have a new harness that with be used with the new buttons. Did you order a kit or ujst the bottons?

my car also came with reset and the trip buttons,but when taking off my steering wheel,i discovered that mine is equipped with 14 ch clock spring.and my rio is 2013.so i think it will fit 100/100.

+danish Jebran Assuming 2016 is the same as my 2015, no reprogramming is necessary. At least this car (US model) the cruise indicator lamp on the dash does not work, but that's not an issue as long as cruise works as it should. After install I noticed that my cruise sometimes will NOT activate, I believe that is because the connectors had to be re-pinned, and they are very difficult to de-pin without a proper tool, which I didn't have, and may have allowed a bad connection. It's definitely not a programming issue, when it works (which is 95% of the time, and I use it a LOT) it works great. By the way, steering wheel remover was not needed in my case. Remove the nut holding it on, pull up on one side of the wheel, and hit opposite side of wheel with other hand. Reverse hands, repeat. Mine just popped off. Obviously I may have been lucky, but was free and easy. Also getting the wheel aligned correctly was difficult, leave airbag off afterwards and do a test drive to make sure wheel is centered.

No, you would have to have the corect clock spring call buttons for the steering wheel and the stereo.

Hey man, I just bought a 2015 forte have you seen or heard of anyone doing it to a forte? The dealership told me its impossible. They wouldn't even install one for me.
I live in Reno Nevada and my kia dealer said the same thing. Look on line for a kia forum, lots of info from kia owners. That's how I new I could put cruise in my Rio.. Also look on ebay for you steering wheel parts for the cruise control. Should be about the same. The computer in the car should be programed for the cruise but just not have the buttons. Do your home work befor buying anything, and only buy genuine parts from kia.

However, at this point I'll be doing the attempt by the grace of (insert religion here). It a $70 part. If all else fails I'll resale on eBay. Wish me luck.

Blake Valdez You ever get yours to work? In the same boat, never taken an airbag column apart before, there is *nothing* out there for the '14-15 Forte, and the wheel is definitely different than all other Kia videos/instructions I've found. Seller on eBay told me that you have to repin one of the plugs, I assume the clock spring one (hard to tell from photo until I get the airbag out/wheel off), but that is no big deal. Note that if you don't have the fancy LCD screen setup (just base radio) you'll want to swap the button assembly on the lower right portion of the wheel....cruise only came with the upper tiered radio/screen setup, and you lose the trip functions if you don't swap that assembly. Upper tier radio options did trip setup on the display, not the cluster. Physically same size where you press the buttons, can only assume the switches will swap, until I figure out how to remove the airbag/wheel.

It should be in the computer 2011and up, You should only have to add the controls.

I bought an audio control+hands free+ cruise control for my 2014 LX Rio, my car only came with reset and the trip buttons, for this change you need to know this First:
*What clock Spring do you have in your car, 7 CH, 14 CH or 18 CH. This is very important.
*How many plugs do your airbag comes with. Two Plugs or Only one.
With this answered.
The you need to read this.
It does not matter what version of the RIO you have LX, SX, diesel and so on.
If you have a 7CH clock Spring you need To change it to a 14 CH clock Spring.
If you don´t change it, the buttons will never work.
If you have the 18 CH clock Spring 8 (heated steering wheel option) you only need to swap the buttons.
For the Airbag plugs:
IF you are going to swap the clock spring be sure to buy the correct one for your car ( one plug or two plugs).
As far as I know yo can do the same for the Soul, FORTE, CADENZA, SPORTAGE and the Hyundai brothers. Just be sure to check for the Clock spring and airbag plug
