I hated the switch for the first few years and though it was worthless since you could get a ps4 or xbox one for the same price often and a much better overall gaming experience. I though people where crazy for spending the same amount of money on less whether it was portable or not. Well come 2021 something in me flipped and I wanted to give the system a shot again and ever since then it has been nothing but love. I finally get what makes the switch so special and with that being said even ten years after its discontinued I could not see myself not loving it just as much. It is the consoles console and I can take it everywhere with me, the first party titles are incredible and I even find myself playing a lot of 3d party games on there over other platforms. I love how the switch is focused on gaming and while I wish more streaming apps where on the system and a web browser was usable at least for messaging sites like facebook or discord I love the experience so much that I get over it. I hope the switch 2 maintains what makes the switch so beautiful and maintains compatibility in the same way the series s play xbox one s games at higher resolution and framerates. I also think it is cool nintendo is delaying the launch of the consoles in order to create a huge back stock to prevent scalping and shortages.

  • @ranchman693

I think 7 years is a great life for a console but new hardware is a must. As long as it can handle all the 3ed party games that an Xbox series S can then I'll be happy! I still use my switch everyday.

  • @Dk-re4rf
    @Dk-re4rf 7 месяцев назад +5

I still play mine daily. The visual improvements on newer hardware doesn't equate to more fun. My PC is used mainly for bills now. PS5 for exclusives. And Xbox for dust collecting. The best experience gaming is passing out some joy-cons to friends and kids then playing some Mario party or wario ware. Those gimmicky motion controls makes for some easy laughs. Snipper clips was fun to playthrough with my wife back during launch.

7 years later I still own my Switch and I’m probably gonna keep it for about 2 or 3 more years tbh. The older I’ve gotten the less time and money I have to spend on multiple consoles or games and well Nintendo games are my favorite, so I might actually not get another system in a while, and when I do it’s gonna be the next Nintendo system, because those are the games I love the most. I’m very happy with my Switch 7 years later, what an awesome little system.

To this day I'm amazed to play the DarkSiders games on this tiny thing, and play online games with friends and randoms like Zombie Army Trilogy and Zombie Army 4. Been gaming for a long time, since atari days. I would love nothing more than to play on my Xbox, but driving truck makes that all a little harder then the switch does. Driving truck, I am able to take this console with me and still enjoy my downtime on the go. And nobody makes the fun, fast and colorful games like Nintendo does; and those games have high replay value! So the switch is my go to system these days and I love it!

I don’t think the magic is gone. I also believe that the people who went on to purchase other consoles would have purchased them regardless of whether there was a newer switch or not. Some people just like having various consoles.
Switch users complain about what it’s lacking, but best believe we’re still using our switch like we were when we got it.

I got mine on day one and also upgraded to an OLED in 2021.
I remember at launch, Nintendo expected the system to last between 8-10 years! Virtually everyone derided them and yet it has come to pass.
In the meantime, they have become super-cash rich, with big hitting games in reserve for the next console launch.
Not getting in a pissing contest over power and graphics, seems to be like a wise move after all.

I bought my Switch on release. That first year was stellar, but honestly, there was no other platform I wanted to play indie and retro games on. It felt like the correct system to be playing those games on. Sonic Mania, Shredder's Revenge, The Spyro and Crash trilogies even felt more correct to be playing on Switch than a PS5 and they came from PlayStation... I don't feel like the SONY and Microsoft offerings ever took off. I've never moved on. I PC game as well, with things like iRacing motorsports sim that you can only play on PC, but my 'console gaming' experience has been the Switch and the mini retro consoles for the last 7 years and I regret NOTHING. I don't mind the Switch being the platform for another year tbh. I still get the same level of happiness from playing games on it as I did in 2017...

Crazy to think. 7 years. I got my first gaming console the NES in ‘87. And then got my GameBoy 2 years later. And my Dad’s, my little brother and I’s SNES a year later. That’s 3 very different consoles in only 3 years. And those 3 years are definitely my most memorable gaming experience years hands down. As I was just a child and these consoles were like magic. Only thing that topped them was arcade games.
But Switch is probably my next favorite after my originals. And I had a bunch of consoles in between. But my Switch brings everything I love from my childhood in one console. And the new games I do pick up are retro style games for the most part.

Me too…..it now rivals my steam catalog of games as I have over 800 digital steam games while I have over 500 switch digital games. Both the steam deck and switch oled I’m playing for life!……..I will get the steam deck 2 and switch 2 when they eventually come.

I think that the big issue: Switch has big time competition for portable AAA games on portable hand held PCs and the Steam Deck. I've had the deck for about a year and it is great (average about $5 per game. I've been on Steam for more than a dozen years and have about 1K games. The family JUST gave me a Switch in February and I have A game on it: Tears of the Kingdom. It was $70!!!. My focus for it going forward will to do what others don't: allow 2 player experiences with the joy cons. Likely get a sports or party game next.

Switch is my primary console and my backlog could keep me busy for a couple years at this point so I'm not worried or anxiously awaiting the next Nintendo console at all.

I think Nintendo unintentionally does a pretty good job proving that there's no "next gen" leap as everything is about higher resolutions and gimmicks like ray tracing. Good games that were built on scalable engines can get ported to the Switch with no issues (DOOM 2016 & Eternal, Crysis, Witcher 3). And while Sony & Microsoft take 5+ years to release a AAA game which doesn't meet sales expectations, Nintendo puts out something like Mario Wonder and showers in money.
I don't know, my feeling is that Sony has too many games that feel like movies and miss the entire point - that games should be fun. Nintendo still knows how to create fun experiences that don't feel bloated.

It is still a sweet system but just wholey underpowered compared to most phones from even a few years ago.

Magic gone? Bite your tongue, RGT! There are still games coming out that defy this narrative of “next-gen” tech.
So far, the other consoles feel like AEW, trying to overtake Nintendo but stepping on their own feet along the way. Meanwhile, Nintendo has been the current WWE before HHH took over.

I 100% thought the Switch would fail, if I’m being completely honest. The lead up to the launch wasn’t exactly great, the specs were crap, other than Zelda, there wasn’t much else. Can’t believe how wrong I was. By far the system I use the most, and I have a PS5 and Series X.

Yes! I did that degree and had that realisation. Switch helped me escape during the pandemic especially w/ Zelda, Mario both Paper and Trilogy and a few gems from the eShop. I also missed a decade of gaming due to skateboarding in my 20s so ive gone from N64 to Switch. Now im falling back in love with Nintendo and have a lot of catching up to do. I think next year will be the sweet spot to start a new console, but thats me.

I was a hardcore gamer from ages 8 (1990) to 21 (2003ish) and then took nearly 20 years off before coming back in 2022. So I'm now playing catch-up of decades of games and as people complain about the online services like PS PLUS having nothing im absolutely LOVING playing all these games I missed that are BRAND NEW to me! I love it and I'll probably have plenty to play into my 60s and 70s before I finally catch up so the magic is still there for me!!!

But honestly for me, ever since the PS1 launched, my gaming has always been the same- Playstation is my primary. If it's available on a Sony system, that's where I'm playing it. Nintendo is strictly for exclusives. Every gen there are anywhere from 5 to 30 must play exclusive Nintendo games for me. And Nintendo is by FAR the best for couch multiplayer

I have no issues with my switch and expect for me being mainly a portable gamer and having a steamdeck for a year+ now, my switch is still an awesome console and as much as I think Nintendo needs more power, if it’s not 100% backwards compatibility, then I’m not thinking about any kind of purchase.
