As a 170/5 FO on another American Eagle operator it’s always great to see a trip report to see how the passenger experience is and how we can improve our service. Thanks for flying American Eagle and paying my bills.
Nice video, I found it through the aircraft reg because I worked in Operations (dispatch) for Eastern when it was delivered in 2016, so it was cool to that you called out its history! Fun fact (for me): when it was delivered to us from Kenyan we needed to re-record the automated safety announcement. As a small regional we didn't have a standard recording just lying around, so the company asked me to be the voice. So for a couple years I was the automated voice that passengers heard. Funny to see it still has the Eastern seats on!
Back 1966 I remember HPN had only two airlines serving HPN if not mistaken and very small terminal and mostly general aviation and some vintage aircrafts and two airlines ( Mohawk Airlines and Allegheny if not mistaken ( F-27, BAC-111 and Boeing 737 came later)
I have to say man your channel just has that “wake up at 4am get some toast while it’s raining/snowing and cuddle down into bed” feel to it. I love it! Thanks for always putting great quality videos out for us :)
@@ASAviationIm not trying to be rude here but maybe you shouldn’t judge on how small HPN is , I flew out of here 2 times and never had a bad experience with it, although the only thing that they should expand, is more shops and more gates.
Awesome video, it's cool to see HPN from the passenger side. The first time I flew there I didn't know anything about it so I was surprised to see airliners there. definitely look's like it could use an expansion from the inside though lol.
YOOO great to hear from you bro! Hope all is well. But yeah definitely agree that HPN needs an expansion. The private jet terminal is miles better than the passenger one.
Oh man. Flashbacks to flying out of HPN to the midwest (CLE, CVG, DTW, ORD, MDW) 15+ years ago. That was a pretty miserable experience since it always felt like I was delayed a few hours and there was NOTHING in that airport airside. Edit: just remembered I had the sketchiest landing of my life at HPN. We had a severe crosswind and aborted landing 3 times. The pilot came on the PA and informed us we'd give it one more shot before "exploring other options" (I assume LGA). The next approach we touched down but it was pretty rough. Tried to avoid HPN after that.
". The next approach we touched down but it was pretty rough. Tried to avoid HPN after that" Just because you had a few go-arounds and a rough landing? That's dumb.
Westchester gov has made a "master plan" for hpn but theres a lot of things at play when deciding to expand the airport. Those lakes you flew over are actually nyc water supply and are protected by law, so any runoff/pollution from the airport needs to be regulated and accounted for Also residents who live closeby complain about the noise, usually only allowing for daytime flights Also fun fact: the hpn comes from the surrounding towns: harrison, purchase, and new castle
Another great video if you look at the very beginning with the map on the right side you see Yorktown heights that’s where i live love flying out of white plains (hpn) so easy 😎😎
41 minutes late wow due to congestion in the alley at ORD, I remember back in March 2023 my dad almost missed his connecting flight due to a mechanical issue on the first flight flying United back home
HPN's gate area kinda reminds me of Orlando Sanford Airport's international terminal which uses one common holdroom for 5 gates aka a call-to-gate system. You should fly to sanford airport on allegiant sometime and make a trip report there and see if your flight leaves from there.
Could the airport be expanded? Technically yes, the terminal area could be significantly increased. However, any increase in the runway length is going to be met with pretty fierce community backlash by those living just south of the aiport. In addition, it has a similar situation that Madeira does, in that there is a pretty steep dropoff to the immediate south of the airport. That being said, there might be a good theoretical argument for connecting the airport directly to Metro-North as there are two relatively close stations on different lines; Valhalla/North White Plains on the Harlem line and Portchester on the New Haven and New Canaan lines. Just for dealing with the geography in the area, I am more inclined to say that the North White Plains connection would be better as the Portchester station is completely crowded in by housing and development on all sides so fitting another line somewhere in there probably wouldn't work. That being said, Greenwich, just over the border in CT, has more space to work with and could be a better place to have a connection for the folks in southwest CT not able to be served by either BDL or NVH.
@@Peyethon it does flights from ORD mainly and DFW. It’ll do some from ORD then fly from one city to DFW, do some flights there, then cycle back to ORD after some days.
Looking at that convenience store at HPN, it reminds me of TSA's rule about liquids--only so many ounces allowed thru security--so if I am consuming a 20oz soda, I have to either gulp it down or throw it away--if I dispose of it, what do I do but go promptly to that vendor and buy another 20oz soda! Stupid! I'd love to visit upstate NY one day and would consider HPN over Albany (ALB)--your routing over Lake Michigan was odd, flying north of Detroit, making that jag over the lake to enter the final approach to ORD--a long day for you, flight leaving late, gate delay and a 2+hr drive south to Champaign, no doubt exhausted! How far from your relatives' home to HPN?

The first time my husband dropped me off at HPN he said, "Is this really an airport, and not a public library."

As a Kenyan 6:33 is my favourite part ❤🇰🇪🇰🇪
Excellent video as always. Those showers on approach are super neat!
AS Aviation amazing video I loved how you zoomed into the other planes in the sky with your camera you should do that more often on trip reports
Still the Tappan Zee Bridge to me
Another great video once again AS! ERJ 175's are my favorite regional jets.
Thanks a lot! Gotta love the 175. Much prefer that one over the 170 but then again not much of a difference inside!
This is a true American eagle of embraer jet planes!!!!
Love watching these trip reports! Super excited to fly myself in a couple weeks time, thanks for all the hard work on your videos!!
Thanks a lot JJ! I hope you’ll enjoy those flights to DFW! My pleasure, always hoping to improve these videos.

Any updates on expansion at HPN?

You should go on a e170 to cmi
MCE seats do not become free at checkin if you don’t have status. Not sure where you got that from.
Oh it must be because I’m OneWorld ruby, didn’t think of that

Interesting. I don't have any plans to visit SFB but maybe one day!
Now you can actually walk to, and sit at the gates at HPN, It's so much better now!
Westchester is where CitationMax flys out of!
Weird on the airline code. Mexicana's code was MX but that is now the code for Breeze. Must be pulling from an olde database.

Only an hour and a half or so drive to HPN.
Midamerica Airport has found its inverse
take out first class on these aircraft.. they have such a low passenger number, make all the money you can
