This was actually the first performance for the China competition's new season of The Singer 2017 [which was why the crowd was excited for it to start at the beginning] -- but what is often overlooked is that he was pretty much a complete unknown to that audience [he's from Kazakhstan and didn't speak any Chinese at that time], and he was the least expected or anticipated to do much since he was pretty much unknown to the audience [which is why he was placed to go first -- the most anticipated singers were set to perform last on that episode].
This was the first time the China audience and other performers in the back room on the show heard him sing. Between his first performance ["S.O.S." in French] and his 2nd performance [Vita's "Opera 2" in Russian], he quickly won their hearts completely.

Wonderful reaction - thank you!! This is a remarkable young man - when he started on Singer he was only 22 - and took everyone by surprise. He is classically trained - was offered a position with the Kazakh opera (he is from Kazakhstan) but he didn't want to limit himself to opera. You must react to Dimash’s cover of “All By Myself”! It was later on in the season. Opera 2 and Hello are great also. You need to look into Morissette Amon’s cover of “Rise Up” as well. She is from the Philippines and is as good as any female singer here in America.
