Exactly……the human race has regressed because of the latte sipping liberal agenda to control our lives and I personally hate what has become of the U.K. with these lunatics running the show!
Remember my grandad laughing at some of these... especially the "fishing hat". Funny how memories reaching so far back, I never knew I had, are instantly revived by the smallest of things. Certainly took me by surprise.
As someone from Texas watching this, I have to say, just in case anyone is even slightly interested, that Paris, Texas isn't quite THAT much like a desert.
Gary Holton in the Tennents ad (he did a few of them). Sounds like James Bolam voicing the Taunton ad. Gotta be Ian Muir (ex wrestler) joining Robbie Coltrane in the Tartan ad. One of a few Martini ads Nicolette Sheridan did. Burt Lancaster in the Fosters lager commercial. A couple of other well-known faces in a couple of early ads and Monterez / Heineken but I can't remember their names.
Used to love this beer in the UK, at first it was imported direct from Australia and was the first can I ever saw with the ring pull design that stays attatched to the can when you open it. Later it was brewed in the UK but a slump in sales saw it discontinued in 1994.
I also remember Jeff Goldblum doing the Holsten Pills adverts they were quite funny as I recall the anagrams of holsten pils such as sh its pollen and “splosh inlet” ha ha
The one I remember is Len Host Lips. Always comes to mind when I see the brand, even today. There are a few of those Jeff Goldblum Holsten Pils ads on these vintage compilations.
@RetroSteveUK true yea I remember the Holsten pills ads well with Jeff Goldblum lol 😂 plus the advertising banners for them ha ha with the anagrams of Holsten pills underneath lol 😂
@@RetroSteveUK Nahh! It was only 9%. The best super lagers where Kestrel Blacks and Scholl Super.. personal favourites of mine up until 10yrs back..lol!!
I remember being in the Crocodile disco in Liverpool In the late 60s. Double Diamond went up from 1s 10d a pint to 2s 6d. I remember saying ‘no one’s going to pay that for a pint.’ I had a pint of lager yesterday, £4.75!
I love these U.K. commercials (adverts)! I just never knew that the sophisticated palates of U.K. beer drinkers would be subjected to 'Budweiser' commercials! Cheers from Missouri, U.S.A. (Why do we place periods (full stops) between the letters and you don't??.)...LOL!
Great selection. However, I have been looking FOR YEARS and can't find anywhere on RUclips. It is a beer advert that was shown around autumn in 1991. Usually on half time during the football. Basically a man goes to the pub skint. It transpires he had lots of money, a high profile job and nice sports car. But 'he gave it all up'.
Four volumes in of your good work of compilation, and I've not yet seen the advert I would like to see again. Anyone remember the ad where a guy walks into the pub and there are three loud Real Ale Drinkers at the bar. He shakes his head and opts for something else. Probably a Lager. Anyone?
I was involved in marketing Dry Sack in different off-licencies in London in the 70s. The promotional bottle (in a small Hessian sack of course!) came with a free sherry glass and an introductory price. It wasn't actually a very good sherry but we sold loads!
One thing at least Ozzie's can hang onto is that tongue in cheek ads. No not sure but when I was there the Telstra and carlsberg lager as well as lamb on national day were great. That I think up to 10 years back was pretty good in South Africa and Oz. Now.. prolly starting too much with PCR crap like the rest of the world.
Pretty good, know some of the brands down under. Do yourself a favour, tell ya somthin for nothin. Have a look at some Aussie beer adds. Start with "A bloody big add" from Carlton draught. Cheers mate.
Poor old Burt Lancaster! But I remember bitter from the early ‘60s, before the big brewers took over. Now that tasted good! Not like those horrible mass-produced drinks of the ‘80s.
Makes me sad for a time that has gone.. and will never come again. But happy too.. because I was there 😀
Exactly……the human race has regressed because of the latte sipping liberal agenda to control our lives and I personally hate what has become of the U.K. with these lunatics running the show!
End of Days ?
?
Uncomplicated days!
The days when we used to watch all of the ads because they were good.
Better than some of the TV programmes! 😆
No remote to switch over 😂
A Britain I remember with nostalgic love. Those days are gone. That said, I don't miss many of those dreadful lagers !
Sometimes i used to soak my fishing Cap in a pint of
John Smith's !
Delicious
.
Remember my grandad laughing at some of these... especially the "fishing hat".
Funny how memories reaching so far back, I never knew I had, are instantly revived by the smallest of things.
Certainly took me by surprise.
I get a similar feeling seeing some of these old ads again after so many years.
The John Smith's fishing cap one is genuinely funny haha
thanks Steve- really appreciate all your hard-work. 80s was one hell of a decade
Dry sack, definitely get a chuckle these days.
Hunted high and low for the “Bobby Charlton…Nobby Steelez” Ad.
Ledgend👍🏼
Great video. The good old days.
Neil innes on Piano in the Holsten ad Charles Dance in the Dry Sac ad Jane Freeman [Ivy} Last of the summer wine ,John Smiths
Neil Innes, what a nice surprise
4:50 Blimey, that was a young Robbie Coltrane!
I used to think that Black Tower was sophisticated!!!!
Thank you for the memories.
We all did. Along with Prawn Cocktails and Black Forest Gateau...
Nice One Retro Steve👍
Good work.
Very interesting.
As someone from Texas watching this, I have to say, just in case anyone is even slightly interested, that Paris, Texas isn't quite THAT much like a desert.
Thanks for clarifying that! I guess those ad makers took one specific location out of context. 😆👍
And I fail to see how a Japanese liqueur is situated in the Jungle (midori).
I like how the decanter ends up in the bin rather than smashing on the road. Fosters know how to prevent complaints lol
Gary Holton in the Tennents ad (he did a few of them).
Sounds like James Bolam voicing the Taunton ad.

Is that Charles Dance in the Sherry advert?
Charles Dance in the Dry Sack advert. Brilliant
All the beer ads worked on me, could drink every one. Peace be unto you.
Used to love this beer in the UK, at first it was imported direct from Australia and was the first can I ever saw with the ring pull design that stays attatched to the can when you open it. Later it was brewed in the UK but a slump in sales saw it discontinued in 1994.
Which beer?
The proper aussie xxxx was a good beer, once it got brewed here it was like carling.
The ads for XXXX were pretty good the lager was absolute sh*t.
Xxxx was usually the cheaper option in threshers or Spar. Even though it had an okay Carling taste
Remember seeing a lot of these back in the day but not the John Smith's advert; that one tickled me.
Nice touch with the old TV surround
Ta. Most people love it. One or two have complained about it. You can't please everyone, but this seems to please 99.9% 😁👍
@@RetroSteveUK I can only assume they never actually watched TV in the 70's or 80's then 😬
I can see the pub from ere!
Crocodiles ate all the sharks! 🐊🦈
Dry Sack, Black Tower and Neil Innes in a beer advert well worth the 16:18 out of my life.
One lager I do remember from the late 80s early 90,s was Hansa lager pretty much long gone now ha ha lol 😂
The Frankenstein Heineken advert was the best .
I also remember Jeff Goldblum doing the Holsten Pills adverts they were quite funny as I recall the anagrams of holsten pils such as sh its pollen and “splosh inlet” ha ha

Love the Bass Ale ad ... "Ratbastard's a fine pint of beer" I think he said. I agree, Ratbastard's great stuff; I used to drink it all the time.
Tennants super was my choice of drink back in the day. Still recovering!
The guys I worked with on the bin lorries back then used to drink that stuff. 12% Wasn't it? I tried it once. It was like treacle! 🤪

Dog’s ears Dawson advertising John Smiths. Never saw that one.
Classic!!!!!!

John Smith's - that's old dogsears Gordon Rollings!

No idea! Thanks for watching from Missouri .. 👍
It took us landing on the moon for y'all to even be willing to watch an ad for our beer.
Shows you how bad the beer was then, dunnit? Lol!
Dry Sack with a young Charles Dance. He had hair! :)
The 80's were so pure.
Taunton Dry Blackthorn, nothing like it
I need a beer 🍺
Steve, love your channel & we look like each other lol..
Must be the awesome haircut! 😆
I used to think Wan....ing was a place in China , until I discovered Smirnoff !

That doesn't ring any bells for me, I'm afraid. If it ever does turn up randomly, it'll go in a Beer & Booze compilation though.

Whatever happened to the dry sack?
Someone threw it in the river. Now it's a wet sack. Seriously though, I've no idea. What an odd name for a drink!

I don't, but if it turns up it will inevitably end up on a compilation. I'll look forward to seeing you in that one! 👍
Party seven cans were out in the nineteen sixties Mitchell &Butlers for example. 😀😀😀😀😀
What is the grunhalle song called I know the tune but can't remember the song.

Great bit of nostalgia. Not much diversity to say immigrants built Britain.
Typical Britain, really. Someone else does the graft; British take the credit.
I see HAGRID was learning to push real beer befroe potter was born..
Some of the most expensive adverts for probably some of the most mediocre products the British brewing industry brewed!

Let's face it .. most of these beers are bottled piss.
Defo Jane Freeman
Taunton Blackthorn Cider. We stiffed glue with a bottle by our side! The 1980s were really sticky
Nice
You can still get tarten bitter had a few pints in Glasgow.still tasty 👍

Sack is an old name for sherry. Read your Shakespeare.

They called it XXXX because the Australians don’t know how to spell BEER
