ABOUT THE BOSS UP:
This utility midlength is the most well-rounded and versatile shape in the Slater Designs range,
designed by Dan Mann. The shape was designed to work well in both weak waves as well as heavier conditions - it can cruise across flat wave faces while also shoot through cavernous overhead tubes.
The Boss Up is the board you would travel with if you could only bring one board with you. Your one board quiver with maximum performance in a purely versatile package.
Our crew has really been enjoying this midlength when keeping it mellow and cruising is top-of-mind (or the need to be more mobile to battle crowds). That said, Dan Mann's also been putting it in punchier surf with an open face - as it's perfect for carving. Michel Bourez has ridden well-overhead barrels at home in Tahiti, and loved it equally in those conditions.
For fins, we'd recommend running the KS1 template as a Quad. This template has a lot of pivot for a neutral template, and when combined with the long rail line of the Boss Up, you want fins that can pivot immediately like the KS1. Or, start with your favorite fin set and if it feels too stiff, add more pivot with the KS1 template.
For size and volume, the beauty of this shape is that it doesn't command you dial-in your volume perfectly. Any single surfer can ride the Boss Up in a variety of sizes. Dan Mann has been enjoying both the 6'8" and the 7'0", while Kelly, Shane Dorian and Kevin Schulz have stayed on the 6'8", and Michel has been riding the 6'10". We recommend riding this around 13 liters more in volume than your standard shortboard. The increased volume means paddle power is incredible, but doesn't compromise performance.

Love the Boss up. The rails and rocker make this board such a great mid length.
LOL. when i looked at it, it to me felt like the Boss Up sat between the Mid6 and Sunday. It has less rocker than the Mid6 but more than the Sunday. I loved the Mid6 but it felt like a step up more than a mid length. I am super curious how this would compare to the mini version though. It almost looked like they flattened the mini version a bit. Not sure though, I haven't held one. :(
@@ThomyeSurfs I surf both the 7'0 Mid6 and a 6'8 Mid6 mini. The rocker profile on the mini is verrrrry similar to the 7'0. I find myself naturally surfing the 6'8 on smaller days, but it admittedly doesn't feel like the right board as kind of feels like just a smaller step up :/.
Still my favorite board in my quiver right now, don't get me wrong 😅
His favorite midlength is whatever firewire tells him it is.
Looking forward to getting mine in the water this week - went all in on the midlength with the 7'2, so lets see how that goes at the points in Aus! 🤙

I recently purchased the 7’0 Boss Up Ibolic been surfing it up at Ocean Beach SF on the smaller / mushy days and I like it! Catches a ton of waves , it’s fast , can do nice cuttys, floaters. Etc… I’m 54 been surfing 35 years and this board makes me still wanna paddle out on the smaller days ! Can’t wait to take it out in slightly larger fall/ winter surf!🔥🤙🏼
That's awesome to hear, im a similar age, can I ask your weight in about 93kgs and considering the 7'2or 7'4.
I Reckon it was designed in 2 foot US Surf, my first Wave I've created a small 'Back foot preasure indent to the left side of the stringer in a 3 foot Wave in OZ.... the Ibolic glass needs to be stronger for 90 Kilo's guys ! BOSS UP PlUS , I'm re selling ... spewing
Yep the Ibolic Tech is soft as hell! The volcanic in the Boss Up is way better…like ‘chalk and cheese!’

You could hear it in Kevin‘s voice he hast to catch himself from talking shit on the board. Boards that work for the public makes more money than boards that work for pros.
Mid length boards in small surf is 1975 style of surfing.
The entire reason we have grovelers is so you can ride high volume shortboards.
I have a ridiculous number of boards and would never choose a mid length for sub head high surf.
On a nice lined up reef, give me the midlength any day.

Don’t get why guys try to ride midlengths, twinnies, etc like a normal performance shortboard. It’s ugly, and lacks flow and style.

I was thinking the same, just didn't`t want to say it... It's like long boarders that try too hard.
Love the shape performance mid lengths are coming around lately definitely a different wave approach and flow with a middy from a short board
