Hey man, I totally agree. Meters make so much more sense. Unfortunately, it's hard to grasp speeds and distances if you grow up with mph and somebody throws meter numbers at you. I wish we would just convert everything to metric in the US.
Maybe, one day... who knows. Feel free to come to germany and also measure the speed here :P our ICE can run 330km/h but in general only does 300km/h due to saving the environment and whatever. Actually Shinkansen is faster than TGV as top speed.Chinese CRH2 high speed train is based on Japanese E2 shinkansen which was built 24 years ago. CRH2 reached 350km an hour in business operation. So why is not japanese shinkansen running at maximum speed of 350km an hour?Coz,the nearby people of the railway take objection to it on noise.
