Unboxing - • VORTEX Spitfire Gen II...
Thank you again to supporter Dave for sending this in for review. Its nothing new that I would rather pick a LPVO over a prism. But that is irrelevant if you really like/want a prism. This Gen II Spitifre 5x is pretty good. It offers good enough glass and illumination. And a practical and easy to understand reticle. The fact its milled to accept Vortex's own micro red dots is not just smart, but very practical. It makes for fewer parts inbetween optics. Which means less weight, while keeping everything on a smaller footprint. Being able to go from 5x, to 1x on a microdot sounds like a pretty nice option to have.

Finally a review where you can actually see what you buy it for...
pew pew!
This vid sold me in the decision to buy this. Only video that shows what the optic looks like at variable distances, very nice!
Instant sub, this is one of the best optic reviews ive ever seen and if this is your format then i hope to see more from you
Pew Pew!
agreed some just reviewing their beards for some bloody reason instead of the reticle!
Just ordered one from PSA for $250 on clearance. Planning on getting the PA 5x Micro as a long term solution, but I'll give vortex a shot.
me too , I wonder how good can it be on a 300 blk or a Mini Draco ?
Ah thank you so much. I ordered one for 400 and was able to cancel and buy at PSA because of your comment! Awesome deal! Excited to try it.
@@keeyanzimmerman2959 Wish I could say the same 😢
Is it worth it for $250?
@@AD-bb9np I think so. $650 probably not. I don’t have much experience with other optics but I’m pretty happy with how versatile, light weight, well made, and durable it seems. An lpvo might be a step up, but if you’re looking for a more compact, no frills scope, it’s perfect.
EGW makes various adapters for the spitfire so you aren’t full married to Vortex’s red dots.
Bought a plate and have a holosun 508 on top of mine.
@@iamFlopez same
And EGW makes some good shit!
@@FlatlanderGear EGW? I’m not sure what that is, but I ought to haha
@@mattm2507 where are you finding those for $120? I already have a Viper, but I'd get another at that price.
I was waiting for you to review this
Happy to help
Currently $199 on Palmetto
Heads up: You just have to push the up button once on the Venom for it to turn back on to the last setting. Holding it down turns it on but also resets it.
Thank you for these reviews! You def are my favorite, your format is beautiful 🤌🏻
Much obliged!
Nice video. I think an LPVO would be a better option, but if someone needs a prism it appears this one may not half bad.
Different strokes mate. I prefer LPVO's while others prisms and red dots + maggys. Its great that we have so many good options to choose from.
My issue with LPVO's is really just the weight, it's got a whole ton of versatility but it be heavy. For me a prism with a top mounted or offset red dot is plenty versatile already. Wish there were more prism options on the market.
No doubt LPVO’s have an advantage with adjustable magnification. However, they are heavier and for similar costs, LPVO’s are not as clear. Putting a red dot on top gives 1x which is often better than LPVO at 1x. The reticle game is completely different and hard to compare. It’s nice to go from 1x to 5x while never moving your hand off the rifle to manipulate a lever. The Prisms lose the adjustability of picking the exact zoom you want though. If you have a shorter barrel - you may not want beyond 3x anyway though. It just depends on if you’re hunting or competing or whatever.
How often do you honestly use anything lower than 4-6x? Do you ever use the 1x on the LPVO or do you use a red dot anyways? For me I never see a need for anything between 1-3x, so 5x is that sweet spot. Anything closer and I use red dot, anything farther than 5x can handle is something I'm not going for with my 14.5 anyways.
@@alexisdetocqueville9964 I’m not familiar with what style of shooting you do. If you’re in competitions or hunting or what. I definitely know there are times when 3x would be amazing - but then I want 6x… but then I also want 1x. Compromises.
I’m subscribing. Thanks for the awesome review
Great review. Thanks 🤙
Do you know why the scope body is so extremely prominent in these and the Primary Arms 5x prisms? I like the image quality, the durability, the simplicity - but dang those scope bodies block a crazy amount of FoV. Ended up getting rid of my PA 5x just because it was aggressively un-fun to look through.
Anyway, as always, thanks for the great review, C_Does!
its just the way it is with the optics on these. Its part of the design process and manufacturing
I have one (just ordered a second ... cause for $200 you can't really pass this up) and for whatever reason mine ghosts out to a ring about 1/2 as thick as c_does camera shows. I dunno why.
I have this one on my DD M4V5S with vortex 3moa red dot ❤❤❤
I take it you like it lol
I'm buying one that's it,thank you.
I know this is kind of a "crappy" thing to do, but I wish my Gen1 spitfire would break or something so I could get the next gen 2 3x. This thing looks a lot more compact than the Gen1....
Gen II 3x Spitfire has, by most accounts, a serious flaw in that the reticle is too small to use conveniently. A shame, because that’d be the one I’d be interested in too.
But apparently the 5x, despite a tight eye box, is the way to go for this generation of the series.
Palmetto has the vortex venom for 169 with code VENOM got both optics for $406 with tax and shipping
Is there a reason why we don't see higher magnification fixed prism optics? Combined with a red dot it seems like a cheaper alternative to expensive LPVOs
I would imagine that it comes down mostly to size and weight restrictions. The higher the mag, the larger the body typically. Whenever you see a 'short' optic the glass is sometimes compromised. Look at the swfa classic scopes. The fixed 6x and 20x are almost thr same size. If they get much smaller there I'm sure will be compromises. Despite what you do the eyebox, and exit pupil will be smaller thr more mag you get. It just doesn't add up to me.
250 on clearance from Palmetto State Armory right now
would like to try one of these with an adapter on the top for an RMR. I don't care for the little venom red dots
Just nabbed one of these for $250 on PSAs website, can’t beat it for that price I bet.
GREAT VIDEO
How does the glass quality compare to an ACOG TA31? I do realize it is less than half the cost
ACOG's have notoriously excellent looking glass. There is no comparision between those 2.
And especially for under $200 it is a much better deal now
Indeed.
@@CDOES thank you for your video! I think you need to come up with optics version of the word "foodie" :)
The description of the illumination in this review suggests a scale:
Daylight Bright > Daylight Useful > Daylight Noticeable > Lame
thanks good job
Hey what would you say are the best Red Dots under 250/300? :)
Romeo 5 all day
Romeo 5 is comedically good. My buddy’s has clearer glass then my Romeo 7 which is about 50-100 dollars more expensive lmao
As stated the R5 is very good. For the $300 and less price you can get into some holosuns as well if your looking for the features they offer.
@@CDOES ty :)
Would you consider this (plus the red dot on top) over the PST 1-6 Gen 2? (Factoring in total price plus mount)
I have the current Primary Arms GLX 2x prism with a MI QD mount that I’d be willing to loan for a review if you don’t have one.
Thanks mate, I have a GLx that I just finished reviewing. Great little prism
The 1moa adjustments amd venom pattern top are deal breakers. Shouldve made it a plate system so a 509t or acro could be used
EGW makes an adapter for the RMR/508T pattern
@@FlatlanderGear so then id have to use another plate on top of that to use a closed emitter dot on top. Just not a good setup and poor planning from vortex
@@roberthutchinson2856 the adapter is fairly skinny but strong so it’s not bad, plus it’s the perfect height for night vision. Vortex just used the footprint because they want customers to buy their RDS. That’s business.
As for 1MOA adjustments, I never found that an issue, since I took this prism to 1000 yards recently.
@@FlatlanderGear perfect height for night vision for a dot with horrendous reliability and night vision performance.
As for 1 moa adjustments, take your rifle out to 300 and beyond. There is a reason even quality unmagnified optics have finer adjustments
One question remains…. Can it laundry room room clear????😂
That's what I was looking for as well. I feel a certain way right now 😔😂
with a micro red dot ontop it can lol
You did not just say that.
I had one and hated it so bad. The worst part is that it’s $450 for a made in china optic. Just spend $300 more and get an acog
$750 for a 5x ACOG? Or, the 3.5x, the best all-arounder.
Smokin dead bud.
@Hans Blitz I see used great condition 4x acogs for sale for $700 all the time.
why did you hate it?
@@thalesofmiletus6162 eye relief was horrific, turrets were not marked for up or down, turrets were not tactile, did not hold zero, and the mount did not come back far enough. Also, made in china.
@@bcjdwbiernfjherwfbowfib ok I get the made in china part but what exactly about that makes it bad? iPhones are made in china and the whole damn world has one, bet the phone or computer you typed that on was made in china
Good content
Eye relief is only 2.7 inches :(
Can you do a review on the GLX 2x you mentioned? I'm on the fence for my 12.5" AR in 5.56 for a Prism.
And I can't get a 3x SLX Micro yet, because noone in europe has one in stock.
The 2x GLX would be a great alternative, but 2x might be almost a bit too low for me.
The Spitfire Gen II 3x might have been a solution, though the rticle is tiny, compared to the 5x
Talking about the 5x, it seems to be a great option, but 5x might be a bit of an overkill and I'm not happy with the very limited eyebox
It's in the works
How would you compare the field of view/"image size" between this and the vortex viper pst gen 2 1-6?
PA 5x, 5x micro or Vortex 5x?
Vector Optics Paragon Prism is its cheaper clone.
S13 spotted.
can the red dot be zeroed as low as 15 yards at that height?
Would you say it's as durable as the cyclops?
Does anyone else have to have their eyeball on the glass to see through the optic? Or is mine just busted
Can’t beat it for $200 and free shipping from palmetto.
Will you review spitfire 3x?
Holosun 510c or this one what would u get ?
3x or 5x for a 9mm rifle?
Be nice if you would show us how the actual scope looks like. You only showed it from the eye piece which although thorough its just bother some having to google what it looks like.
There is a 13 min long unboxing
@@CDOES Still a another step of which theres no mention in the video nor link anywhere even in the description. Haha and im a subscriber and didnt even know there was a unboxing vid (youtube be that way of course). Just dont think it would hurt to just show how it looks like somewhere even as a jpg atleast once during a video talking about it.
Will say I did buy a 1-10 swampfox thanks to your review vid. Loving it so far!
I love prism optics but i wish someone would send you a hensoldt 4x30 prism optic to review. Heard its better than even acogs or elcans and has a massive eyebox and fov tnat dominates ta31s.
I got a look at this optic’s little bro the Spitfire 3x Gen II and it was not encouraging. Very tight eyebox/relief and the reticle was so small as to border on unusable. For $399 the 3x Spitfire seems a terrible value.
This 5x by all accounts has a bigger reticle and to judge from the video here it should be more usable. With a piggyback red dot it might be a decent setup: fair amount of capability for not much weight. (The 1 MOA adjustments kind of suck for a 5x though.)
PSA has them for $199 right now
Just food for thought most you can be off is .5 MOA and that's if you are very unlucky. Zero wind, handloaded ammo, and perfectly stable position with a bolt gun needed for that to be meaningful...even at 100 yards. Otherwise it's within the margin of error. Takes higher magnification and a different type of rifle than what these are made for really.
what red dot footprint does this run? rmr?
Can you run an offset red dot?
How many inch for the eye relief
What mount footprint for this thing.
I don’t care for the children legs but I think it’s pretty dope
It’s a T1/T2 footprint
I use the primary arms swept mount.
Hey would you be interested in my set up of a nightforce scope mount 1.93 inch and scope?
Which NF you got
@@CDOES NX8 2.5 - 20 X 50 with the TREMOR3 reticle.
