    Over the past 8 months, I've finally ditched the dye and started transitioning to my naturally gray hair. This video includes my back story about when I started going gray, how long I dyed my hair to cover the gray, my attempt to dye my hair gray (which then turned GREEN), and the past 8 months growing out my gray sparkles. Hey Brooke - I too am embracing my natural hair color, grays and all. I last dyed my hair October of 2018. I've been using Pravana Nevo Color Enhancer Treatment in Cocoa Brunette as a way to add a little color when I feel like I want some. I love it and it also helps smooth out the kinky grays.

    I've been going grey since I was about 12 (I'm 38 now), all the women in my family premature grey, and alllll of them religiously colour their hair.. My hair grows really fast so I was having to colour my hair every 2 weeks and I started toying with the idea of letting it grow out about a year ago, talked to my friends and family and had a LOT of push back, took me till about 4 months ago to actually commit and start the transition. I tried to ease the transition by going shorter but I'm super impatient and chopped it all off into a short pixi cut a week ago, I'm now dye free and I'm excited to grow my hair longer with my silver crown!

    I am 20 months in. Went cold turkey and had above shoulder hair at the start and letting hair grow as well as letting gray come in. My hair is a few inches past shoulders now. I keep slowly trimming it off. It takes patience, but I am committed and have noticed how wonderful the new virgin hair feels, compared to my old straw hair from all the box dye. You look beautiful and doing it at a good age. I am 55, and feel so much more authentic to self. I won’t go back. Many Blessings to you beautiful lady 💕

I also asked my hair stylist about dying my hair grey and got the same response. I’m just not fully committed. But that’s because I am older and don’t really want to look it. Your straight hair will look terrific when it’s all gray.

    It’s harder to go natural at 74 when you’ve dyed your hair for 50 years, medium to dark brown. That demarcation line is horrible.
    A couple yrs ago I went really short pixie and stripped my color to add back gray. My hairdresser and I tried several gray colors, but after about 6 or 8 months decided the gray made me feel old. I’d like to go gray ... dying every 5 or 6 weeks is really harder for me to do and my hair dresser charges $75...

    I have dark platinum roots and just a few white streaks, not many yet. I like my root color and how super shiny it is. Every month or so I mix up a small amount of box dye in a cool dark brown shade and get very strategic with an old mascara brush to blend the two tones. Don't use too much! With extra time now I also pull very small baby lights thru a cap around the front. You may have to invest in a few shades and strand test until you find a good match.

    The length the gray is now, you can do a cute pixie cut which would get rid of most of the colored parts...I think it would be hot! 😃 After 2 months of lockdown during this pandemic, I’m thinking of growing mine. Mine is curly, and I normally keep it short...which has its own challenges. I also live in a very hot place so can’t wear a hat...not looking forward to going back to work so may have to cut vey short within the next month to get rid of the color. We’ll see how things go but yes really hate the dying process which is thinking my hair. 😭

    63 during this pandemic I’ve decided to just let the grey come in. Never really like grey but I’m going to keep trying it. I will most likely cut it into a pixie cut when the grey is taking over. Makeup changes u need some color on lips and eyes so focus on that. It’s a trend to be grey so why not just give it a try!

    I cut mine all off in 2013 at 58 or so and let it be totally natural, now mind you I'm like your grandmother I wear it short and it's all-natural. What followed when I decided to change jobs is the horror part. I graduated with my undergrad in 2014, as I went for interviews the horror was no one and I mean NO body would take a chance on me. This I do believe is our culture of youth and that anyone with age is on their way out. I've been single since 2001 so having a good job is important. But at 59 after my company that I had worked for 6 years was sold I found myself working in fast food and most anything I could get due to the stereotype of "she is gray and older better now hire her" I won't color it ever again my hair color is part of who I am just like my eye color. Age discrimination is real and it can really hurt., now at 61 I am along way from retirement so I'll keep on working where ever I can till I'm ready to retire on my terms.

    You can put in some purple/lavender demi permanent color to tone down the brassy parts and leave no line. That's what I did. I didn't put any on my natural parts/roots. It made growing out match so much better.
    I'm now at 2 years and it's all grown out. I went to a bob and now a shorter French looking bob. So much fun!

      Thanks for the tips! I never tried any of these kinds of tricks, but wish I'd experimented a little. But now I'm all natural and really happy with the result. :)

    Love the hairstyle! I just stopped coloring my dark brown hair about 4 months ago. I had my hair bleached to help blend the demarcation line and it backfired. My hair is so fried and damaged-and guess what-I’m locked into a cycle of toner if I want to keep it an ash tone. That’s just as bad as having to color it. So, forget it. Now I am just going cold turkey and my hair is fading into a trump orange auburn color with the gray crown showing. Oh well. Natural is the way to go. I’m embracing it!

    How about a cure for gray hair? Just ask, I can help.
    I have the least gray of any friend I see of my same age (59).
    I had more gray and found out what you eat is probably 80%
    of the answer. Take care!

    • @krystalcarey
      @krystalcarey 4 года назад

      What's the cure?

    • @ratbastube
      @ratbastube 4 года назад

      Potato skins (if eaten they should be well cooked).
      Other things like greens and certain fats (eaten) also help.
      Do you eat at restaurants?

    • @ratbastube
      @ratbastube 4 года назад

      Several times a week eat potato skins or the outer 1/4 inch of potato.
      It may take a few months for results. I only eat about 1/4 of the potato at a time. It does work. I have heard (but not tested) that potato skins make a natural wash to color to original your hair.
      Can I call you KC?

      Gray hair is supposedly a copper deficiency. Many don't absorb it. Co-fact if with iodine

    It astonishes me that talk about "embracing our age", what other thing could we do? It is just a frame of mind.
    I dyed my hair up until 3 months, not for youth reasons, but for aesthetic ones. Now it is the right moment to let it grow a nice shade of gray with white streaks. I do not plan any plastic surgery to conceal my age, but if I changed my mind, I am entitled to do as I please, and it will not be for whatever other people may think.
    It is striking that in the era of radical feminism which someatimes leads us into ridiculous stances, self-proclaimed independent women fall still prey to this kind of mental slavery.
    Freedom and independence is not bestowed from without, they come from within us.
