Despill_Edge_Hack (FREE Tool, NOT EDGE EXTEND, NO edge distortion)

- A quick tool we hack'd together for Automated Despill Edge Treatment (NOT CORE SPILL, you will STILL need to do core treatment that gets overlaid later, this is specifically EDGE DESPILL). Many have asked "Isn't this an Edge Extend" or "Isn't this just ColorSmear". For clarity:
An Edge Extend Dilate's, Warps, Distorts the Edge THIS DOES NOT (unless you want to treat the edge with a slight blur/min/max or erode dilate in treatment area which is optional and should be used with selective roto work using different Despill Hacks (one with and without treatment turned on).
Color Smear is not based on a key but on a roto edge and alters the edge details. THIS DOES NOT.
This is based on a blur, unpremult, blur, divide, mult from the despill mask. Edge detail is fully retained.
HEADS UP: It doesn't seem to be working in Nuke Non-Commercial. I'd recommend Nuke, Nuke X, or Nuke Indie 13.2v6 or higher.
Copy/Paste the Early Release (We're still tweaking this) Text into Nuke:

Can you make a tutorial on how to create a gizmo? But more in depth one that will cover creating custom switches, on/off buttons and so on. Not just super basic like slapping 3 nodes together and putting them in a group. Thanks Matt, you are super-dude!
Going to on next livestream.
Doesn't work in nukeX 14.0v5. anyway, you did a really good work.
I'm having trouble with getting this to work well for me. Can you explain what you are doing with the exponblur node? Should that be eroding the alpha of the erode fine in even more but just making the edges a gradient or expanding it just to the edge of the edge? I've been expanding my color but once I premult I get that dark line on the edge still. I hope you do another more in depth tutorial on using this tool - perhaps doing a comp from scratch so we can follow along.
Are you double premult-ing. You shouldn’t have a black line.
The MinMax mask is always there even with the Enable MinMax mask turned off. Using Nuke 14.0.
Are you using Indie or Full Version? Thanks for feedback.
Same problem here , Full version NukeX 14.1 would have been usefull in production with some hair artefacts. @@VFXforfilm
Is this node have option to choose color for dispill like dispilltocolour
Hey man thanks for this - can u make a detail video on edge despill only ? Specifally on Blue turning into Green and then edge turning into Purple and how we treat those areas etc etc ? Thanks man take care !
Subscribed!
I can't seem to get this working in Nuke14.0v2 NC unfortunately? I get (blank error message)..
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for update. I’m trying to collect feedback to see what we can do. I might just rebuild a version for 14 honestly.
Not working on 13 as well
@@artiestudios What version of Nuke 13? Is it Nuke Non-Commercial? Indie? Educational? Nuke X?
@@VFXforfilm I've found a work around for this that I thought I would mention if it hasn't already been brought up. It doesn't seem to like aces colour space. I can load the node when not working in aces. So I can open it in another script and copy it over.
Dope dude!!
amazing
But when I use it, the source color shifts strongly. Is there a solution for that?
Yes, adding a separate core despill on top. This is for edge work only.
Unfortunately it doesn't work on nukex 10 and 11.3. I assume it's because of the new shuffle, as it gives me these errors
AddRGBA_spill.format_size: no such knob
AddRGBA_spill.true: no such knob
AddRGBA_color.format_size: no such knob
AddRGBA_color.true: no such knob
Viewer1.monitorOutOutputTransform: no such knob
Viewer1.rec709: no such knob
clipboard:
Shuffle2: Unknown command
I’m doing a “do it yourself” demo soon on streaming.
Is this a little similar to the ColorSmear ?
There’s no detail loss along the edge transition, this is different as it’s based on a dividing and multiplying out the despill key in combination with a blur/unpremult/blur. This doesn’t use a manual roto either.
AWESOME!
Nice
Doesn't work with older nuke versions sadly that is older :(
What version are you using? Curious.
I’m gonna try this out, but I really just want to know what makes this different from an edge extend node…?
It’s not an edge extend. It doesn’t warp/erode/distort the edges (unless you want to with treatment but it’s not necessary).
supercool!!
great work😃😃😃
