  • Getting the Cayman's front struts in and out can be a definite pain with a very real danger of damaging your front fenders. And you (supposedly) need some special tools from Porsche. This video show you how to do it with regular tools plus some tips and tricks to make it much, much easier. Also addresses how to handle PASM vs standard dampers.

Extremely well done. Instruction, hacks, and Torque Specs. Hopefully I can move easily through this job with your instruction.

Great video and very helpful. I have been struggling working on my 2010 Cayman (base), because I don't know the little tricks that you share. One item I wanted to note is that the inner control arm bolt that was loosened to provide more clearance needs to be torqued at ride height, or close to it. I know this from past experience. I torqued the rear control links on one of my cars at full droop and fought a terrible handling problem (autocross) for nearly a whole summer before I figured it out. Also note this applies to rubber suspension bushings.

You can save one hard step and make it easier. You don't have to detach the steering link. Just put the key into the keyhole to release the steering rack lock, the whole thing moves with the hub. I had to bend a part of the brake airflow plastic piece partially away not to damage it on the driver side only when lowering the hub. Thanks for the video!

Love this video! My cayman has begun this awful whine at low speeds and it’s more apparent when the car’s at normal running temps.. it whines a lot when going over speed bumps.. do you thinking that’s the strut mounts going bad? I’d like to think your video would be key to solving that issue 😅

Hi Cliff, Great video thanks, could you kindly let me know the torque settings for the 3 top nuts shown at 29.27 mins, indicated by the 3 yellow arrows.

Opps one question. Camber adjustment. After a replacement of struts is there a mark/s for the stock Camber or will one need to have an alignment preformed? Thx

Your brake calipers are anchored with Torx fasteners. The Macan S I am maintaining uses the triple square type fasterner. Okay, that was more of a comment than a question, but I would like to know more about which vehicles use which, and why?

If I'm replacing the shocks & mount, do I have to worry about the camber? If should just remain the same, no?

Great looking guide, I actually just used an impact gun on the 18mm ARB bolt in the back of the strut which got the nut off without any issue, but the bolt is not moving - gave it a harder hit with the hammer than you did and neither side is moving... Any idea?? (both sides are in the air, but I haven't taken the tie rod off if that makes a difference...)

I'm sorry, I'm blanking out on what the "ARB" bolt is.

Anti roll bar. The 18mm nut combined with the narrow 17mm section on the bolt itself… mine seems like it is part of the hub it will not budge…

Harbor freight has steering knuckle separators for even less than $40. Hopefully without sounding preachy it’s better to follow Bentley and remove the strut assembly, you don’t risk damaging the fender and assembling a strut is best done on your bench. Watch FCP Euro’s video for the correct way.

That's probably the next video that's going to be published, I'm more than a little swamped right now so I can't say exactly when it'll be but hopefully in the next 3-4 weeks.
