    It's a fabulous place Yosemite, but a bit of a victim of it's own success, but does look incredible in Winter. I was lucky enough to live in California for a couple of years in the early 1980's and spent a few days in a log cabin there with friends one winter. Sadly it was before my 'real' photography days, although it did introduce me to the wonderful photography of Ansel Adams which later proved a fantastic inspiration. Tunnel View is irresistible and you bagged a really good shot, but you see so many of these it's hard to become excited. For me the shot of the tree with the suns rays on your Fuji is the outstanding shot by some margin. Well done. Great video.

    Great job Nigel. I'm a retired pro of 35 years and use your vids to inspire me to get out and do some work for MYSELF finally. Nice job with the vlog. I HAVE to get back to Yosemite. I've been to many of the major parks and, in my opinion, Yosemite is the prettiest. Your video's are interesting and authentic (wich for me is a must see). Your story about the accident that made you turn around your view on what you are doing impressed me.
    I am in a kind of same proces (although the cause is something different then a accident), what you do is inspiring me. Not to start a vlog, but lifestyle wise.

    I enjoyed your video, and am envious of you being in Yosemite in winter. I was also quite pleased that you shared actual photographs with your viewers, in addition to web images. I don't remember any other videos from photographers that did so. Keep it up. If I may, I'd like to offer one suggestion for your future videos, concerning showing actual prints -
    When showing your actual paper prints, try setting up a "stand" for them to rest on, where they can be set at an angle similar to the way you are holding them. By having them on a stand of some sort, instead of hand holding them, they will lie still. Plus, you can preset a light on them, so that when you are actually taping them, the light will remain constant, and you will not have any hot spots.
    PS - have your video camera back far enough initially so that the viewer can "see" the entire print plus stand, etc., so that we, the viewer, know we are looking at an actual print. Then, if you desire, you can zoom in closer to show more intimate detail.
    Looking forward to more from you. Thanks for posting.

Nobody ever goes that far in their videos and you did. Thank you. Early on I attended a workshop with Robert Rodriguez Jr. on printing. Such an important aspect to printing and like you I use Canson papers (Thanks Robert). Keep up the work and the videos. I want more.

    18:49 - I saw this in the prints you have for sale. In your summary you said you only had a few minutes to get the picture. I was in doubt and excited at the same time. I have taken only one similar that was in the fall. Where my doubts come from is I see so many times the sun rays are incorporated into the shot by using PhotoShop. It's a spectacular image and more so that is it natural.

    Winter is a wonderful time in Yosemite for the photographer. Each season has its good subjects, but the summer through early fall has too many people getting in the way the big vistas. I've gotten many good photos in Yosemite, but my only winter trip can be summarized by my last question to the clerk checking me into the lodge: "Where's the snow?" I picked the only year they had almost no snow. My luck!

    Hey Nigel! I really enjoy your videos and I really enjoy printing my photos too. There's just something special about it! I'm currently printing on my canon pixma pro 100 and print on both the pro platinum paper and fine art paper "museum etching". Do you happen to know of a substitute for the fine art paper? It's ridiculously expensive... it delivers, no doubt, but maybe someone knows something about it. It's notoriously hard to find information on it...

I haven't been to Yosemite for about 6 years (moved from SF to Seattle), and it's amazing and sad to see what the bark beetles have been up to since then. This is really nice and interesting this way of showing your entire process.
    Very pleasing to watch, theres just maybe a little something happening sometimes with your vlogging camera, the background is kind of moving in a strange way,
    Anyway wish you good luck and looking forward to the next vlog ;)

      Yeah - the shaky video is due to the stabilization in the Yi 4K+ (ironically!)

    If you don't mind, may I ask where is the fist place in the beginning of the video? Beautiful images btw

    Nice video. That one print of the classic view of yosemeti valley, is that printed on hahnemuhle? it looks very glossy. And the nice one with the tree and the fog, what paper is that?

    • @NigelDanson
      @NigelDanson  7 лет назад

      +Lindstenfoto no all these prints were on Canson Which is a semi gloss

    Snowshoes, just watching your winter videos and they would make a world of difference in UK, Alps or the US. they won't make you faster over the ground but you will use a fraction of the energy. £50 for a basic set from Decathalon.

    Hey Nigel!
    Quick question, how do you store your prints? Do you have some kind of an album you can add/insert your prints?
    Cheers, you're one of the latest finds of mine
    Keep it up!

      +Chris Nigul no great solution here I am afraid. I have a set of print draws and put them in there. I am careful to separate them with acid free tissue. Most prints are sold or I have then on my wall so not too many to store...

      Nigel Danson Gotcha. Maybe I’ll find something next week at the photo+ expo in NY.
      Cheers

    Nigel - Thanks for such a GREAT video - and your images are AMAZING!! Quick question - what size paper are you using for your prints? And if I may, how are you setting up the margins for your prints in the print module?? Thanks!!

    • @NigelDanson
      @NigelDanson  6 лет назад

      I use a3 and a2 and margins are big enough for name and signature at bottom. Don’t worry about having them same all around

    How long do you needed to get on this level of photography?

    • @NigelDanson
      @NigelDanson  7 лет назад +5

      Landscape photography is all about getting out there and taking photos. I have failed a lot and this has enabled me to find out what works and what doesn't. So the more you take and experiment the better you will get. I wouldn't worry about how long it takes though as the journey is what counts! :-)

      Nigel Danson Failng is part of photography, you can learn so much of it. I'm photographing now for about 1.5 years and I'm not so happy with my pictures but I love being outside and stay there about 1-2 hours. I'm young (14) so I haven't got chance to drive with the car so it's a big challenge to find and new sport in the same village for one than more year. This is a good training for your eye, I can see so much more things in my village.

      Keep it up! I started when I was 14! It is an amazing way to see the environment!

    I was talking about the dimensions of the print, are they A3? Thanks, Steve

    • @NigelDanson
      @NigelDanson  6 лет назад

      Ah ok - I print mostly on A3 and A2. Sometimes I print on A4. Most of my print sales are A3 or A2 though. Personally I think A2 looks the best as it shows the images off to the full extent.

    7:55 Why not bracket your exposures and get the shot? Seems like a missed opportunity.
    Great vid though.

      +Wrecks yeah - in hindsight it probably was. There is a lot to photograph and sometimes you miss the obvious! Thanks for comments

    I definitely like your vlogs, very interesting. But when you move and talk to the camera, there is a very annoying "wobble-effect".
