Eric Valentine is amazing as always, but props to Andrew as well for being a great interviewer! So nice to listen to the guest without them being interrupted, and asks great thoughtful questions too.
Great interview and really interesting how Eric worked and interacted with these different artists.. It would be a pleasure to record with him one day.. 🔥
Hey Eric, great idea to document the demise of your current studio. Fingers crossed you also publish the building of your new megastudio, too! In particular, I'd love to see the design phase and any cool ways you deal with tuning the rooms and so on, I'll be watching! Thanks for the great content, Andrew!
I had a small home "studio". Cement walls, square, terrible echo. I covered everything (including the ceiling) with 6 inch thick rockwhool diy panels. It sounded AMAZING. Those thin panels are garbage
Yes. And the cymbals and drums were tracked separately. On Eric's channel he gives a great run-down on the making of that record. Cheers from San Joaquin Valley CA.
Andrew, how do i want to treat my live room ceiling? The floor is concrete, and right now my 7' feet 8" inch high ceiling is exposed joists packed with fluffy pink and 6 inches deep. Im guessing i would want the ceiling as dead as possible, so i have NO plans of simply throwing drywall up there, but would rather finish my ceiling with something absorptive. I was thinking...IF i could make it look ok, finishing with 2x4 sheets of owens corning 703, and maybe a slight air gap above that. Am i pretty close in my thinking or just talking stupid? Side note: the walls are concrete block at the moment. Plan is to drywall (with 2x4 studing first of course) and hang bass traps......unless there was something else worth mentioning, pertaining to the walls and making a choice i wont regret for life.. Hey thank you for even taking a second to read this as well as what you give to the music community.
@@tootory9506 😄 most of my mics are cheapies, but you know what? I get great sounds, especially now that I've discovered cheap Neve 1073 clones! I have a little condenser on hats, driving into a 1073 then into the recording deck. I like using a hat mic in a "hybrid Glyn Johns" setup (basically, I've set up a suite of mics that allow me to choose between a bunch of different setups, like 1 Mic, Glynn Johns, spot mics, etc ...) then pull out what sounds cool in the mix room.
@@johnvcougar Thanks, I do much the same. I was hoping Eric would mention if he used a hi-hat but he did not. Not that I needed his Hi-Hat mic advice to save my mixes hahaaa But more that I just enjoy listening to Eric go into detail about his process on all his different drum projects. Sooo hence "What About The Hi-Hat Mic??" Good Day!

Fantastic conversation! Eric is a treasure chest of knowledge and seemingly just a great guy. I hope Pt 3 becomes a reality. Cheers!
WE NEED PART 3 AND WE NEED ERIC TO POST TO HIS CHANNEL AGAIN. ERIC COMEBACK (baby comeback!)
Great interview and really interesting how Eric worked and interacted with these different artists..
It would be a pleasure to record with him one day.. 🔥
Been waiting for part 2! So glad it really happened! I’ll never get tired of the songs for the deaf stories. Thanks 🙏
Thanks Andrew, Eric is such a likeable guy & always has an interesting perspective. Enjoyed the interview!
Woah, this is Part 2, and it's 2.5hrs long?!?!? Damn, must be a 5 hour conversation. YAY!!!
AAAAAmazing, as always. Thank you for this!
Thank you for watching Brandon

Anyone who hasn’t heard Grace Potter’s Daylight record must go listen immediately!

Thank you Juan!! Eric Valentine is super cool!!!
Eric Valentine Rocks! Thank you PureMix, Andrew Scheps and Mark for making this happen! ⚡⚡⚡
Thank you for watching!!
Eric's drum sounds are incredible... thank you for having him PureMix!
Nice to hear that the consensus is still musicians playing/breathing together is preferable to strict bpm.
one of the best series on youtube. should change the name of the show to Almost Beer O'Clock, This Has Been Amazing or 'Right!'
Thank you!!!!
That "kissing tree" song form the spencer lee band is AWESOME !

Thanks a bunch for the great content - but the album is called "Songs for the Deaf" (not Deaths)
I love Andrew's cat condo!
18:11 This is a very good idea. ❤️
He's right... I had never heard of that company.
I didn't know Eric was married to Grace Potter. That's a whole lot of talent in one relationship.
Eric is golden!
translation: josh and eric didn’t get along and became enemies hating each other during the recording process
Will they ever release the T-Bone album version??.
Definitely none of the ones I pay attention to most. Nice job Andrew and Mark! (and obviously Eric!)
Cheers Chris!!
Was there click track used on Songs for the Deaf? I'm assuming no, but would love confirmation! Thanks....

@@NikoFrederiko. thanks for the reply!
They had to use a click because the drums were recorded separately.

Can we get a chat with acoustic fields??
That guy's "questionable." Much more legit acousticians out there.
PT 3?
Nothing at the moment we are afraid!! but do keep your eyes peeled for next ATTAP and exclusive pureMix interviews!!
WHAT ABOUT A HI-HAT MIC??
What about it?
