Eric Valentine is the best mixer AND producer in that room (and maybe in the whole series), still acts humble. It would have been great if Dave Pensado would have let Eric talk. He would have learnt a lot.
His drums always sound incredible!
It finally starts at 11:00
Coming from 2019, Eric is now in his own home studio, and the Orban is one of only a few pieces of outboard gear racked up.
In his channel he does ITB mix recreations of his older records and they sound just as good
I scored two non-working 672s from the local concert hall for $40. Opened them up and each needed two new filter caps. There were only 4 or so electrolytic caps in each unit (surprisingly), so I just replaced them all. Once replaced they fired right up. They are insanely cool EQs, although recall isn't fun haha. I use them all the time in tracking. they sound amazing on distorted guitars, and absolutely killer on kick and snare. I love all my ITB tools but damn it's fun turning knobs....
'We tend to evaluate our lives, based on the quality of our work'- words of truth
It was bugging me all episode, and then, at 33:40, I knew the tiny piece of toilet paper on Eric Valentine's neck didn't stand a chance ;)
wtf, how can this all happen and they don't notice that
It's so interesting hearing Eric Valentine asked about his influences because his job on Taking Back Sunday's Louder Now inspired me.
Me too!!!!! That album smacks so hard. Pure Inspiration!!!!
Spinning the mic for a Leslie effect. Gold right there!
You guys are incredible…. It takes a lot to even keep up with your discussions…. I went to Full Sail and am lucky to keep up with the material you are covering… that is so educational, and relevant, even more than Full Sail. Not even trying to talk down on the university…. but the curriculum is incredibly relevant and insightful. Thank you so much.
This was a great episode.
Unlike some of the other guests, who seem to act more instinctively, Eric knows EXACTLY what he is doing. It must be a pleasure working with him.
Eric Valentine = best engineer ever, period.
Great interview!
Love this episode, when Eric talks man do i fuckn listen, although he is known for drumcentric recording, i think his guitar sounds are the eye of the tiger, wish there was more on his mic' techniques. Can't find anything on the net in regards to this, i been looking for evvvvvverrrrr!
i played in a band with eric in 1996, hes the bomb drummer....
zenner, we were signed to bill graham in 96
Great show!!
Can you guys bring on TRENT REZNOR!!????
Favorite recording engineer.
Eric V (if you can read this), I've had some good results with the Glyn John's technique using mismatched microphones, for example a U87 and a Rode Classic II. The U87 over the top (adjusted to pick up an appropriate blend between cymbals and drums) and the Rodes as a side fill just above the floor tom looking across at the HH. Very punchy combo - both in Cardioid pattern. You can adjust stereo image by pointing mics away from each other.
YAAAAY!
So we have 2020....still waiting for the Undertone EQ Plugin xD
Haha, same! I only just recently discovered UTA and hoping for some plugins to come out hahah
EV, you're my hero.
Awesome
awesome
Nice!!
Does anyone know where I can find the first interview with Eric Valentine on Pensado's Place? The one on the site isn't working and I can't find it on youtube.
Pensado's Place you guys should get Drake's producer: 40 or The Weeknd's: ILLANGELO in an EPISODE
yeah man, those 2 would be awesome.
would love to hear from Illangelo
T-ride!!
HAPPY X-MAS from Denmark :)
Thank you for answering my question. I work with some Glyn Johns fundamentalists and wanted to remind them there are not rules.
40!!!!
I just now realized.. Eric sounds JUST like Paul Thomas Anderson. Give it a Goog
HE DOES WHAT???? 20:14
THExRARE I couldn't agree more. I feel like Dave's always looking for someone to go toe-to-toe with him with discussing frequencies and in depth mixing techniques, and as a big boy mixing engineer and producer, I know Noah '40' Shebib could do that. Illangelo is something special, even though he's not with The Weeknd anymore. Make it happen, Herb! :)
Dave is a sharp, funny dude
Thank You for a great show.
Isidro Infante,Sergio George,Juan Luis Guerra,Jorge Calandrelli,Emilio Estefan.
all are Latin Grammy winners could you please try to bring in at lease one of them.
and do an ITL on Latin Percussion Instruments.please don't forget about us..
Merry Christmas and Godspeed to all.
Very much enjoyed this, thanks!
THIS IS AMAZING THANKYOU FOR SO MUCH INSPIRATION
The answer to "vocal lead" was 2501? Does he mean the Electrodyne Micpre? Thanks
Probably Elam 251 microphone.
When he talks about acoustics, he said "ms". What does it stand for?
mid side
We have some Orban stuff at my studio hahaha
You should bring on Ryan Lewis as guest (producer of Macklemore) I think he has the potential to be the next Timbaland.
39:29 lol
pity the contest is not available for non-us citizens :/
Quit doodling, Herb..
28:08 Stephen’s tape machines in the 60’s? sorry David, not in that decade
GET BILLY HOWERDEL GUYS. PLEASE.
That dude looks like Bobo the bear
get charlie peacock!
slash’s solo material is not notable lol. not much mention of queens of stone age, one of his most important achievements. the hosts are of a different generation and don’t seem to understand music since about 1990.
...that piece of fluff.
?
I wish those other guys would shut up
