That is called "shake" and the piece of wood has a lot.of it. You made good use of it! Nicely done.👏
good to know, thanks!
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for sharing with us 💕
I'm glad you liked it!
That is so heart-meltingly beautiful!
the wood really is stunning!
What a grandious piece. Great work
Thank you! Cheers!
Stunning cant wait to see what you do with that huge piece might carry on splitting in layers almost ready made bowls lol
That would be nice. It's still drying, so I'm hoping to have a few more of those "layers" delaminate from each other so they can be pried out.
Beautiful
Thanks! It was a great piece of burl.
As beautiful as the end result is, it looked amazing before you started turning it.
I agree. I gave some serious thought to just polishing it.
Interesting. I have never seen a burl separate into rounds/layers like that. Orchard cherry, black cherry, or ?
great question, but I don’t know for sure. given where the shop I found it in was located (mid-Ohio) and the size of it, I’d guess Black Cherry.
Did you use the resin to stabilize the wood? I’m just curious, I don’t see any in the finished bowl.
No, it was very solid wood. I used the resin to create a place to cut a temporary mortise.
