damn, the F-Pace is amazingly beautiful. IMO this could be the handsomest suv ever created!
Land Rover own Jaguar. Its the same engine in the Jag XE, Range Rover Evoque and this. In fact moving from one to another they are almost identical.
I've seen one of these on the public roads and it is big, but from the back what is odd is that it looks like it's on stilts with the wheels too set in, oh dear...

How does this square up to an Evoque in terms of size? It looks way bigger than a macan, looks more comparable in size to the next suv size up

The Jaguar F-Pace is a one sided exhaust system.... Design team failed... Should have put a dual exhausts... Hope they will change this for 2018 or 2019 model... Saving my money for now...
Sportier than a Macan... more comfortable than an X3... achieved that an more.
Isn't this X5 size/Cayenne size not X3/Macan size?
+aquaphoenixx It is sized between x3 and x5, but of the pair, it’s closer to x3 for both size and price.
+Auto Trader In that case I think Jaguar have a winner in their hands! I am a BMW fan. I have test driven the current generation of X3. However I am extremely underwhelmed by it! It is just an OK nice car. Nothing really sets it apart. I am glad that there are the Macan, Evoque and now F-Pace in this class. The consumer benefits.

All that's important is, will it fit neatly in a disabled parking bay at Waitrose (even though I have no blue permit, but it's only ever to pick up some Yakult) and will the headmistress be majorly upset when I pull up on the pavement directly outside the school gates?

I'm confused - why are they testing this car off-road? Surely, they will spend 99% of their time on smooth tarmac :c/
+David Alexander There is very little 'smooth' tarmac in the UK...
It's clear that JLR uses the Jaguar brand, with the exception of their sedans that already have strong identity and tradition, to compete with Porsche.
So, the F-Pace goes directly vs the Macan. Well, it's certainly better looking.
And while Porsche is in advantage with the 911 and Cayman-Boxter vs the F-type, due to the proper sports car platforms they use, the F-Pace will be in advantage vs the Macan, because it has RWD bias, as opposite of the Macan that has FWD bias. The 2.0 diesel goes vs the Q5 and its curious Jaguar won't initially offer a 2.0 petrol version.
Land Rover has big SUV's (Rangie, Rangie Sport, Disco) and small ones (Disco Sport, Evoque). The F-Pace slots in between with the lack of low gear option and a price point more in common with the Disco Sport and with the size, platform and engines more in common with the Rangie Sport.
Something like the XE derived "E-pace" naming would have been more logical, in terms of size, price and platform, but Jaguar wants this crossover associated with their sports F-type car.
The F-Pace will sell like their station wagons never did. And I hope they follow suit with something like the GLA.
+notformebeaky Jaguar has said that the F-Pace was ready, but then the Macan was launched and they had to re-engineer the car. They are using two supercharged V6 and a V6 diesel all of 3.0, that's very similar to what Porsche Macan offers, plus the entry level 2.0 diesel.
While the X-type and XF shooting break sold well, that kind of cars don't have much appeal in key markets like the US, China and outside of Europe. The F-Pace will have broader audience, that model alone should sell around 100K/year which is more than what Jag ever sold.
Before the XF, Jaguar sedans had emphasis on comfort, wood trimmed interiors and retro style. From that model, the brand has changed and the XF nowadays goes against the Panamera, which are both something in between the E-class or 5 series and the CLS-class or 6 series grand coupé, respectively.
+notformebeaky Maybe there where you live, I'm in North America now, have lived in South America previously and Jaguar is associated with wealth.
I don't remember right now the engine line up of the Panam, but you have to compare prices with comparable engines, I think the have some 5.0 V8's and 3.0 V6's diesels. The 2.0 gas/diesel XF's obviously go more vs the E-class or 5-series.
Anyways, you state that only the F-type competes remotely with Porsche. Jaguar stated they used the Macan as the reference for the F-Pace engineering. You said the Panam is 4x more expensive then the XF, which isn't the case with similar engines. If you were in the market for something from Porsche, Jaguar is on the radar too.
Audi and Jaguar, aren't quite comparable. Audi started as better equipped VW, while Jaguar traditional model is the XJ. Audi small cars like the A3, Q3 and A1 form a large part of their sales. Jaguar primarily sells the XF and F-type.
does this crossover has a supercharge?
The F-type R does have a supercharged petrol engine. A 3.0L V6 i think
Sportier than a Macan? That wouldn't work for Jaguar's market positioning, which sits straight down the middle of sportiness and comfort

I do not think it will be sportier than a Macan. But it will be sporty no doubt and probably more Luxury than the Macan.
So you guys drove a US or Europe spec car?
+Dealzguy It's really neither as it's a prototype. Jaguar is evaluating the prototype so it can set the various specification for different markets around the world.

So ...Dont we have UK Prototype's then ?
More countries use left hand drive cars so they develop them in that configuration and then convert to right hand drive for the UK market.

+stonedog23 This is camouflage print that many manufacturers use when testing/prototyping vehicles. I guess the idea is that i hides the lines of the car. You'll see lots of these about if you live close to a Jaguar site.

+Kenneth Martin It's much better looking than a Mercedes. The rear end alone is better than anything on any other SUV.
Adam i agree that it looks better but wat im sayin is that the jaguar xe and xf have very similar taillights, reminds me of how all mercedes look the same
Kenneth Martin Gotcha now, I think I read your original post in a slightly different way (i.e. it looks like a Merc)... that seems to be the way of car design these days though - one design philosophy that filters through the whole range.
