*The piglin brutes only spawn in light level 11 or lower (open sky is level 15) so this farm should have a decent shade umbrella if it's built above ground.
I feel like "surprisingly technical farm for a mob spawner that doesn't exist in vanilla and also doesn't give you any crazy drops" really sums up what I enjoy about the vibe of your channel
Slight note on the explanation at 1:24. Each spawn cycle constitutes 4 spawn attempts, but these attempts are successive in nature. This means that spawners can't "overspawn". If you hit the 6 mob limit within a spawn cycle, in this case on attempt 2, then attempts 3 & 4 will fail on account of hitting the local mob cap. A good thing to note is that the spawn cycle cooldown (a random value between 200 & 799 gameticks, 10 to 40 seconds) will go into effect if any spawn attempt is successful, or if any spawn attempt fails due to the local mob cap. But, if all spawn attempts fail due to internal constraints (typically, if the spawning spot is invalid), then the spawner will not enter a cooldown, and spawn again on the next tick. XP orbs drop so long as player damage was inflicted within some set interval of time (I think it's 5 seconds which is pretty generous) before the mob's death. If you've ever punched a mob off a cliff, XP orbs will also drop =], though it was ultimately the fall that killed the entity.
I think the problem is that the brutes turn to zombie piglins within 15 seconds, meaning that the brute cap is never reached. Also unless you damage the zombie piglins, they count as passive mobs and don't contribute to the aggressive mob cap
love the way you seem to take technical Minecraft in a *playful* direction- it's a nice break away from most projects I see, which are either super optimized for survival or built to just look/operate Really Impressively.
Interesting that you recently posted this. In my modpack, you can get mob spawners for most mobs and piglin brutes drop ancient debris nuggets indirectly, so this is useful. Or, it would be, if I wasn't going to use modded means to do these things.
concept in response to the fall damage killing mechanism: what if you added an XP elevator? there's definitely a way for the fall damage to work, but the elevator probably adds as much lag as the extra minecarts
Curious why you didn’t use turtle eggs for the pigmen attraction. While it’s technically more expensive than a cuboid of blocks, I feel like the cuboid of blocks is harder (and would also require all other blocks in the pathfinding area to be excavated assuming the spawner isn’t in mid-air) Also to answer your question about the suffocation + magma, no the damage doesn’t stack. In general the game takes the highest damage source and applies that damage to the entity (for reference most damage blocks are 1 health per 10 ticks, with soul fire & soul campfire being 2 health per 10 ticks, lava being 4 health per 10 ticks, and entity cramming being 6 health per 10 ticks)
You don't technically have to make a cube! The important bit is having lots of solid blocks for pathfinding to target. You can actually do this by digging it into the ground, for example. Dig a hole that is just two blocks larger on each side than the glass wall in this video and build the farm in the middle, so the glass never touches the edge of the excavated space. As long as the mobs have a solid block to pathfind to, and that the closest connected space they can get to said block is outside of the farm, they'll walk right over the trapdoors.
i just discovered you a few days ago and I gotta say there's something in the way you make videos that I really enjoy. keep up the good work and thank you for all the cool stuff you do with the game :)

@@whitestonejazz also on the powdered snow note, I made a bedrock (bleh) portal zombie piglin farm and had them "snowfall" through and arrive at 1hp for the farthest spawn and slightly higher (1 hit) for the shortest travel spawn So it wasn't just standing with their head in snow with water flowing over a magma block, as might work for witch potion farming

Blue campfires do 60 health points worth of damage in 15 seconds which is enough to kill (enough by 10 extra health points). But oddly, they have three other annoying problems. 1) blue campfire means building this farm requires soul sand and as it's a farm for custom maps/mods we can't be sure what materials people will have at the time they would need to build this. So it's best to try to use just iron, redstone, dirt, and wood (which we can be reasonably sure a player will have in any variant of the early-game). 2) Because blue campfires kill by a margin of 10 health points in that 15 second window (instead of entity cramming which kills by a margin of 130 health points), if we take more than 3 seconds to get the brute to the blue campfire, it will transform before dying. So letting brutes reach the campfire by running over to the player might not be fast enough anymore. Although creating a solid floor of campfires would solve this. And 3), you might not get XP as consistently. You have to punch a brute within the 5 seconds before its death to get XP. Entity cramming kills in under 5 seconds so as long as you punch each brute on its way into the minecarts, you're guarunteed a 100% XP rate. However, blue campfire takes over 10 seconds to kill so you'd have to repeatedly punch each of the brutes while they're all jumbled together in the 1x1 hole. If you missed a brute, you might not get its XP. This could be solved with some kind of armor stand sweep-attack method to guaruntee you hit all brutes every 4 seconds or so. But this one extra layer of complexity that isn't needed with the minecarts.
I might have been if I'd been more active in the Minecraft community over the years. I seem to chat with someone from scicraft on discord once every couple months
If he wants to get into scicraft he would just need to communicate that to us, and then I definitely expect he would get in. Currently I would just assume that he doesn't care much about server memberships either way. A scicraft membership is ultimately quite a meaningless thing.
@@whitestonejazz you should see about at least visiting the server for a day, 3 days, a week or something. It'd be cool to see you and some of them do a "guest" project and it seems like they'd be up for it. Given they did a soft reset by abandoning all their old chunks and farms recently it could be useful to them too. And exposure for you. Just an idea. Others have visited before.

Now you've just got to make an entire series dedicated to unique mob spawners 😂

To be fair "netherite scraps from brutes" is a mod with a bunch of downloads, so this may be a full netherite farm via gold from zigs too
This is the most vague farm I’ve ever seen and I love it

There's a 5 second rule. If you hit an entity within the 5-seconds-before-it-dies window you get XP from it.
Ahhh this must be the same thing for cliffs... ya know whoever picks up their xp must be guilty type thing
Using coal to represent the entity cramming was clever, just like coal is compressed into diamonds

Could you make a playlist with these farms or mainly all your proof of concepts? Would like to see one ;)
Solving a problem that literally nobody has. love it
Soul campfire should deal enough damage in a 15s window iirc.
iirc xp orbs can be moved by water and bubble columns. Think I've seen farms use that trick for fall damage based farms
imagine if you can use an anvil elevator to kill mobs (never seen a video on that before but sounds possible)
i see, anvil breaks from fall, so replenishing is needed and not quite possible to afk while punching piglin brutes

Piglins don't take damage from magma, but you can still use powdered snow, including in your "waterpipes" that move your mobs
Top half of water pipes if you have them
