He's not trying to be Stevie Ray, he's paying tribute to someone he loves. There's a big difference between someone faking it and someone who wants to keep the flame alive, awesome Tommy.
jazztube: emulation is the greatest form of flattery;)
I get what your saying here because my first take was that this guy had issues. After I heard him play I was blown away. I agree with you this guy is very special and I only wish I had the same talent needed to give such tribute to SRV like this. I think he loves Stevie as much or even more than I do - that’s pretty Cool!
Same thing Stevie did re: Jimi. Nothing wrong here.
He trying to be like him a bit......and why not?
Yeah big difference between this and people like KWS. Hell even between KWS and John Mayer. At least Mayer is open about his idol. Kenny just straight up wants to pretend like it's his style. Like he's not desperately trying to emulate SRV.
Tommy Katona is awesome and probably the Biggest Stevie Ray Vaughan fan alive . Everytime he plays he is paying tribute to the memory and music .
You can like this guy or not but the fact is that he is playing this riff better than anyone else on RUclips giving lessons! Thank you!
Saw Tommy today at the Texas Forever Fest in Plano. He is incredibly skilled, it’s quite shocking how good he is. Most people watching probably do not realize how difficult it is to play so well and so clean at the same time. Keep rocking guys.
Yeah man, Tommy is in a league of his own. Amazing guitar player, so underrated!
Brilliant! You even have the necklace. That is one sweet guitar. SRV album ‘In the Beginning’ sold me when I was a kid.
He is a freaking God!
It's the best version I heard Vaughan! my greetings from Argentina.
When I first started to watch this Cold Shot Video I did not expect you to capture the Greatest Guitar 🎸 player ever. You my friend sound great both on Vocal and Guitar. I could feel Stevie playing thru you - Thanks!
Wow, just incredible playing and explanation. Stevie is smiling on this!
You play it brilliantly man. What a song and guitar line. Your voice is great too.
Finally somebody who plays it like Stevie! Thank you...I thought I was hearing an octave on the first note.
I've been playing guitar since I was 6 and first time I heard srv for the first time I was hooked..I was at his funeral and one day I saw tommy for the first time and I was blown away..I've seen lots of guitar players that try to sound like srv but no one does it like tommy..got that sound. And favors srv. Keep up the good work brother your are awesome.
tremendous musician who has figured the intricate playing of SRV! He is correct, alot of players do an ok job of tring to cover these songs but the details truly makes it come alive! I would like to hear Tommy & his band play sometime. I bet they are very detailed. Good job explaining & has a good voice. Keep up the good job. ps- i am a drummer & cant play a lick on strings, but understand details.
thankful for Katona...gives me a taste of SRV i cant get anywheres else in the world..thanks tommy
I've seen you play live in Dallas Tommy. Your band is totally awesome and I hope to learn from you one day. I need a good 3 or 4 more years of guitar time, but one day, you and me will rock out to some blues. Keep up the amazing work, you sound just like Stevie on the guitar! My ears were ringing for about 4 or 5 days after I watched your show, no regrets at all!

I save that comment for note perfect performances. Very nice. I've been playing longer than you have been in existence, and it's really cool to see a young guy have so much passion and be able to so closely replicate his everything. I was absolutely crushed when he died. I remember watching the news with my parents when I was in 3rd grade and the white hearse was pulling out of Graceland. People lined the streets and were sobbing. I asked why they were crying if they didn't know him and my dad said that he touched those people so deeply with his music that they felt like they knew him. I didn't really know what that meant until I heard the news on the radio the morning after died. Was truly devastating. Keep doing what you're doing. People love hearing his music.
I agree every video I've seen on how to play Cold Shot , it's different and missing a strum or a mute or something , you were dead on … good job dude.
Excellent! So many of us SRV fans would love to be able to do this. Great work Bud!
You are the man! That being said, GET A DAMN MICROPHONE SO WE CAN HEAR YOU!!!!!!
Eric Perez Dolla dolla bill ya'll
Ya cant hear dik
You are the best bro. You are a true student and master of Stevie Rays work. You have the voice that also does justice to his memory. SRV was my first love so I say this with sincere respect and admiration as a SRV fan and fellow guitarist.
The only one on RUclips that got it right. Thanks for giving me something to work with man!
This is one of my favorite SRV songs, I always wanted to play it.
Excellent video. People that have issues following, should just return at a later time when they've gotten better.
The best advice I can give you is to sit down with your guitar, start listening to the song and the notes and then try to play them without any tabs or any other means. Use your ears, you will make mistakes in the beginning, you won't play note for note perfect but eventually you will train your ear and you will progress just like you would at any other skill. You'll revisit the song after a while and suddenly you'll be able to discern individual notes, you'll hear more subtle differences and you'll find them on your guitar.
Being able to listen to a song and learn it by ear is the most important skill on your road to master the guitar.
This is the first time I've ever heard of this dude.. the dude play it the way it right way...he even move his lips like Stevie..ha ha.. the vato play it with heart...i would like for him to play in San Anto.@Tx..what a party it will be..Orale .till next time..God Bless you T.K..😅
this guys got stevie down to a T. Any blues newbies out there learning right now.. listen to this guy if u wanna learn stevie's style. he's the best on the web!
you have it, deep soul blues , I'm keen to learn as much as I can from you keep it rolling,
Love that song , played it a few times , didn't know the thumb trick.
még mindig te vagy a legjobb Tomi!
It takes a lot of a Guitar player to share their hard work studying a particular style. I like this guy and many thanks for sharing. The Guitar is such a beautiful instrument yields to the feel of the player like no other instrument. Interpretation is everything in guitar.
Always been fascinated by your talent! I would love to see you shed the SRV persona and let your own blossom, with no disrespect intended here. I think you're an amazing guitar player, but I'd love to get to know the artist within, if you know what I mean!
You play exactly in the right way he did! Love your feeling! 👍🏻👊🏻🔥👏🏻
Man you've been doing your homework! Brilliant playing!!
I just had the chance to see him play this past Saturday at Oley Pa. He is fucking amazing!!!
Me too. He is awesome
Awesome sound like Stevie. Rip. Great guitar. Player.
I didn't use tabs... one day, I was listening to cold shot, picked up my guitar and played it with no trouble. I guess that was a unique experience
I heard his voice it was fantastic - Better than SRV if that’s possible 😊
Heard a lot of players trying to play like Stevie, not an easy thing to do, but I will say you come very close. This song is one of my favs and you nailed it. And your vocals are good too don't be afraid to use it. I can see you doing a SRV tribute, you have the talent. Keep it up.
You got if perfect man. The guys who criticize this lesson should learn the minor pentatonic first LOL¡
Incredible playing and explanation, really fantastic video, thank you sooo much for this!!!
Great lesson! Thanks to you I can say I've dominated pretty much the whole song with the right feel, I just need to work on the solo now. It's sad really how many people teach it completely wrong just for the sake of getting more views on their channel.
even your normal speaking voice reminds me of Stevie, haven't found someone who sounds so similar on guitar to Stevie yet either, good job
After shutting off everything in my house; I was able to HEAR most of your lesson! Very helpful I thing you nailed it pretty close. I never considered the low octave WOW! Very good vocals too!! One last thing, PLEASE, PLEASE LOOK AT THE CAMERA WHEN YOU TALK!! THANKS!! YOU'RE GREAT!
He is probably looking a mic
This guy is awesome!! just saw him in person this week.
I've been trying 30 years to he that tone.. still trying lol
Stevie has been born again!
Thanks for your detailed lesson. I simply like your guitar play. Keep up the great work !
I met Stevie twice, once at an autograph signing and another time after a gig..this guy sounds like him, and has his look for sure. Don't know how much of it is cultivated, or is he a brother from a different mother??? Either way he's got the playing style down pat which is the most important..awsome.
That is awesome brother! Sounds perfect!
Great teaching style and tone!
Best SRV lesson I've ever seen on youtube!
Beautiful, thanks for sharing your talents!! & Love this video & your teaching skills 👏
Thanks for the details. It's all about the groove.
Great sound and Great play.... Bravo.
Damn good job. Best I heard so far
Amazing Tommy!
Id like to see the rest of the lesson, your playing is spot on.
very nice! great job! hugs from Argentina! Viva SRV!
Man, this is fantastic observation!!!! Great Job, you have a nice tricks!
Awesome Tommy. I'm taking a course on SRV now, and it's hard.
Wow what a feeling and Play fantastisch very nice lesson Tanks
Your such "A" Perfect intermediate guitar teacher, I feel I could play along, hum ! , Maybe I'll get this old rusty axe goin' !?!
Tommy looks sounds and plays just like SRV!!!!
Amazing playing dude!
Awesome playing, you nailed SRV's sound! I can't believe the amount of dickheads who leave negative, critical comments. If you don't like a video, move on, no need to criticize the person who spent the time giving us a free lesson.
Great job dude,
Thanks for the lesson
Keep on rocking brother SALUDOS
I think you're brilliant! Great stuff!
In response to @jazztube below: Throughout the years (depending on the guitar I’m playing) I find myself emulating MANY guitarist's styles; not because I want to sound exactly like them, but because I’ve been auditorily influenced by them over decades. I think it’s almost impossible not to. Just as observation is the best teacher, the same goes with listening; it’s how we learn, so before we know it, we have our own styles. This gent just happens to be more influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan at this point in time. Just as I was mostly influenced by Jimi Hendrix; 20 years later I sounded very different, as it became an amalgamation of many different guitarists; especially the ones I loved the most. So, jazztube...I fully agree👍
I just clicked this video to hear your number 1 tribute played
WHAT THE HELL YOU ARE AMAZING BRO!
Great Tommy!
Unbelievable talent man, thanks for this. Just discovered your vids somehow and I've watched this one and Lenny. I look forward to seeing more. love every second of them!
I think he probably has to be one of the best SRV tribute artists.
yes, tabs suck
Voodoo Blue is awesome, saw you guys in Austin.
Tommy , you've got the Best technical comprehension of SRV that I've heard, of anyone out there, BY FAR.
But as we all know and I'm sure you would agree there was only one. RIP SRV !
Dude you are amazing.
Excellent work
He keeps some of the guitars at his home, but most of the guitars, amps etc. is in a bank vault. Lenny was sold and some of his pedals are in possession of SRV Fan Club and Hard Rock Café. I believe the guitar Yellow is (or at least used to be) in a Las Vegas Hard Rock Café.
You nailed that solo
Wow man awsome you nailed it
Great lesson. Thanks.
THIS GUY IS AN ABSOLUTE KILLER PLAYER!! TOTALLY NAILS SRV!!! MY HAT IS OFF TO YOU TOMMY!!!!
awesome!! thanks
yes. Always.
really nice sound and playing dude
You made that left-hand mute look easy
I can say as a drummer, I would love to jam with you
keep playing , stevie would be proud...
wow... you have some part of stevie's power and energy..i'd like to play like you:) with what do i start?
Oh my gosh dude you rock
Nice work cat, I dig it !
Fantastic.
you got it.
Right down to the soul patch brutha'.
tommy thanks so much for all the demo's and lessons..tuning is half step down right?
GREAT man!! Awesome!!
very well done
i love your guitar!
Can you tell me what you are using to get such a great tone? Pick ups, amp, pedals, etc..? You could save me and perhaps many others from wasting money on the wrong amps, pedals, etc... I apologize in advance if you already posted this info, I couldn't find it... Thank you - very nice of you to share your knowledge and talent!
Tyvm sir ! Youre awesome !
at the beginning of the video he's like, "here are a few licks u will never be able to play because i rock and u suck."
you rock way more than he does dude
I like it when they do that. If they're really good (like in this case) it sort of shows that they're a decent player and are probably going to be able to play what I want to know correctly. There's been others where they'll just ramble for about 4 minutes and then the lesson sucks.
amazing!
ok srv is not dead. congrats man
it's not the custom shop, it's made by Tim Davis. Much better than CS and more affordable too. Check srvnumber1 com
Sick guitar, brother
