Hello, new subscriber here.Personally, I would like to see the use of pit lane to restore ship's energy, because it adds intensity of game play where you have to survive the track in critical moment before you are able to reach it.Also, are you interested in reviewing retro anti gravity racing (pre Wipeout) such as Powerdrome on Amiga? I think it's interesting to see where this genre began.
Omega was one of my first VR experiences, and I was so immediately impressed it left as big of an impression on me as the first time I played a 3D game back in the early 90’s. My jaw dropped as I was sat in the cockpit just looking around before the race started. The track was Moa Therma, and when I went through the loop de loop section my heart rate went through the roof. It was absolutely stunning. And to say this mode was a patch and not even originally intended in the game made it doubly impressive. So I’d like to see a new Wipeout built around VR from the beginning. And I know I’m being a fantasist here, but I’d also love if they made a custom HOTAS style controller peripheral - with footpedals for the airbrakes - especially for it. They could call it “WipEout Immersion’.
I've never tried it but I've heard that the VR mode in Omega Collection is an awesome experience. If I were to cough up the cash for a PS4 VR headset, it would be for that game for sure :)
@@AGRacingCentral the price of the PSVR 1 set up has come down quite a lot recently (you don’t need the wands), if you can get one for less than €100 it’s totally worth it just to play Omega in my opinion - it really is that incredible, it’s like a totally new game, I’d even go as far as saying it’s a totally new gaming experience. As long as you still have a working PS4, of course. I still fire it up from time to time, long after fully completing everything, just to immerse myself in it for a while. Remember to turn all the comfort settings ‘off’, no matter how much the game protests - you want barrel rolling to make you fall off your seat 😂
Besides customization, I agree with all of your opinions, especially limiting the use of side shifts. Giving teams their own prototype ships reminds me of WipEout Pulse's concept ships, so have those prototype ships be an experimental designed ships that teams can have as an excuse to see what technologies of theirs can they implement. Despite the horrible reception Wipeout Rush has, their take on a story was completely different from anything before, and I love it. (Out of topic, but it's weird that Amy Belmondo is the daughter of Natasha and Daniel Johnson, considering how much of time gap that should be between the events of F9000 and FX400). Maybe the story can be as deep as WipEout Fusion, with some focusing on the teams and their pilots. And to add my opinions. I would like a new team, or even a certain wannabe successor of AG Systems back from the F9000 league, since they were auctioned off, not liquidated and blacklisted, so it's possible they could return under a new country and leadership. And finally, weapons. Bring back Force Wall, but similar in function as Qirex' super weapon from 64 where it deals damage to the craft and slows it significantly, as if hitting an actual wall. And also disruption bolt from WipEout Pure - make it fire one rocket and any ships hit by it would get severe control disruption on their craft, making it difficult to pilot for a short duration.
Glad you agree with me and thank you for taking your time to elaborate on all those points. I definitely think the lore should have a bigger place within the games.
I think a great way a new wipeout could do progression, and visual customisation, could be to follow F1 and other sports games with a multi seasonal structure. Fusion slrt of does this too. Im thinking less championships, perhaps again a few variations of tracks, and you trundle through, upgrading ships and with it teams as you progress through time. I really liked the way that in fusion the ships got more and more aggressive and intense looking (except maybe Xios lmao) and doing something similar tied to career, speed class, and time progressed through cpuld be really fun! Then for multiplayer or a more general skngle player, everyone gets free choice between aero mods theyve acquired for their favourite teams, but maybe it wpuld be better to have them locked down by speed class in multiplayer
I'm totally with you on the championship style campaign where you are locked to a specific team. It goes slightly against what I said in the video but I think you pitched the idea quite well :)
Yeah this is something I think could be really fun in AG racers, and doesn’t seem like it’s been done much. Understandably the focus is typically on the racing and combat, but things like F1’s teams and constructor championship could add an interesting layer of strategy and tension to the already hectic action.
As much as I love Japan and Japanese games, I’d be worried if a Japanese dev team are working on a Wipeout game. Wipeout has a certain uniquely UK vibe about it that I don’t think would come as easily to Japanese developers. Maybe it’ll be cool though, in its own way, but it’d be very different.
It definitely comes from the music and the visuals. The UK music scene inspires these games a lot, and the incredible breadth of scenery between gorgeous countryside, glittering cities and decaying cities brought a unique style to these games. It's super cool ✌️
I see where you're coming from. Sega however has a good track record when it comes to racing games so as long as they stay true to the classic Wipeout visual presentation, I think they could pull it off. We'll just have to wait and see if the rumor is ever officially confirmed.
WipEout was a significant thing for us people here in the UK, showed that part of our culture from the time, so to see a Japanese dev do it wouldn't feel like a true WipEout. Although, it just isn't as easy as getting a new British studio to do it, it's been more than a decade since Studio Liverpool shut down.
The WipEout lore is crazy for the fact it doesn't factor that much in the actual game but the corporate shenanigans are to be expected in the background.
I completely agree! I can't really think of another game series where there is this big of a difference between the lore that actually exists and the one that is presented in the game.
I would like to see the return of the pitlane rather than absorbing weapons... i always found that to be unbalanced because the leader was able to easily zoom away, not needing their offensive weapons and so just absorbing them and staying at 100 shield.
I know exactly what you mean. And being in the bottom of the pack essentially means that the races turn into a game of dodging bombs and mines. The pit lane might be a good way to counter this!
I think a "Mixed Tournament" mode would be a good idea. Imagine you're doing a race in one round, a time trial in the next round and then an Eliminator/Combat event in the round after that.
I think that sounds like a great idea. I had a similar point as a bullet point in my script but eventually decided to skip it. Other games like Pacer and Flashout 3 does exactly what you describe and it works quite well. I imagine a system where you take on a series of challenges, like you suggested, and you can switch freely between ships between races but you are locked to a specific team you picked at the beginning.
The number one thing I would like to see in a new Wipeout game is a new Wipeout game! I agree with all your points, let's hope we can bring back our old rivalries! I'm looking at you LegoKlokkie!
I have been listening to the old soundtracks quite a bit recently and I think you're right, there's really something about them that sets the tone for the games.
Thanks a lot! I completely agree that better online would elevate a new Wipeout game a lot. I also forgot to ask you if it was ok I used your awesome side shift race at the end. I figured it was ok since I gave you a full credit and it fitted very well into that section of the video :)
I'd like to see 5 things in a new wipeout: The first being the use of "Satellite Teams" so that there would be another reason to have different liveries for each team as well as maybe even some adjustments to play style, and more towards the lore for both the manufacturers and the teams that compete The second being a much bigger grid of racers, say 8+ (that one is mainly for me I like to see more than just 8 racers some times...) The third would be a track designer/customised of some sort, especially for online play The forth being the ability to spectate or even watch a proper replay of the race (because that seems to be missing from what I can tell) And last but not least fifth, long tracks in general and I mean much longer, think taking 5 or 6 minutes to complete 1 lap! Those are what I'd like to see, but you never know what will happen...
I agree with you on one pint at least, spectator mode would be awesome! It's been a lot of fun to listen to and make analysis of races in the different tournaments we've held the last couple of months. Spectator mode would be a tremendous help with broadcasting tournaments in general.
I imagine a natural progression for the WipEout series would probably be setting it 10 years or so after Pulse. Possibilities for lore, new regulations were drawn up from the FX350, and FX400 leagues, integrating lessons learned from the Fury Prototypes into a new FX500 league, no need for an FX450 league, as that was where the Fury Prototypes were tested in the first place, unless that could be the league for possible Prototype ships. When it comes to *slight* visual modifications, I imagine they'd possibly only come in the form of 'upgrades' like how we see occasionally in F1, nothing too crazy, but something that makes it seem like there are some changes to the ships. Like maybe slightly different airbrakes, or engine intake shapes, or exhausts.
I think you're on the right track. A pure sequel taking place after Pulse would make sense but at the same time, a league taking place between 2048 and 2097 would also be cool and allow for some experimenting. And like you said, some slight visual and gameplay modifications to make sure that things still feel familiar. Thank you for your comment!
i think if the next wipeout game is real, it should probably try to feel a lot faster. the games all feel like their speedometers are quadrupling the number just for the sake of saying that its fast. a good example of a good sense of speed is definitely redout 2. the game shouldnt be a redout clone, but it should feel fast, not just looking fast only when you look at the indicator. just an idea, though!
agreed - same for F-Zero, BallisticNG, etc, none of these games feel faster than like a few hundred km/h, regardless of what the speedo says. With the latest hardware, hopefully a hypothetical new Wipeout could enhance the core sense of speed
Hmm, I'm leaning a bit more towards that the actual speed isn't what makes the Wipeout games gameplay special. However, after playing the game for quite some time, I would agree with you in that the lower speed classes feel way too slow when compared to other games that are out there.
Ballistics had a great sense of speed. It was very clear in that game when you were cruising and when you decided to boost and detonate the nuke you apparently had in your afterburner. It's not a game with a system you can use in a WipEout game without heavy editing, but the fact is that the games from PurE onward always seem to flirt with the idea of letting you get up to Zone speeds in non-Zone events, even if after Fusion that was way harder.
Just got I to Wipeout this last month. Almost completed the Omega Collection. Great games, really scratch that itch for a more pure arcade racer without all the modern fluff. I'll be following you for hopeful updates to the series.
Great to hear you like the game! It's a truly timeless classic in my opinion. Thank you also for following my channel, more content about Wipeout is of course coming :)
I have had my own wipeout concept on paper for about 4 years now. I want to make video on it, but I'm keep changing things. This year, I feel like it might finally the right time to do so. About your video, I agree with most of them, those that I don't agree with are the ones that would probably interfere with my own concept (I might mention them in my video). For now, the point I don't agree with at all is the last one. I don't think sideshifting should be nerfed, but a little bit reworked. I thought of a mechanic that would allow you to sideshift 2 times but the next sideshift would reload 3 times longer. Also, when it comes to Matchmaking, we would need a lot of players (obviously) but not only that, a proper ranking system that would divide players (basically as u said). However, without many players, this would be useless and WipEout would have to be AN ACTUAL ESPORTS TITLE, so that people would have motivation to climb. Something, that I think will only stay in our dreams... Who knows, maybe one day?
Thanks a lot for checking out the video! I think we are both on the same track regarding side shifts. I also think the mechanic in itself works great but I also think some kind of limitation is needed to make them be used more sparingly and by that, also more strategically. Happy to hear you agree with most of my list :)
6:56 The online campaign was an unmitigated disaster back when I played 2048. Everyone kept spamming “Combat” during the voting, and clustering around eachother during the event in order to accomplish their objectives. The online campaign was also buggy, often causing me to lose my progress over and over again.
Yes, I barely played the online campaign myself. I'm happy with how the online works now for 2048 in Omega Collection, we've had a couple of fun tournaments in the game!
Well there was a WipEout game on development for iOS and Android that was called: WipEout Rush, I think it was announced like 2 years ago but then the game went silent and never was mentioned again, not even if was cancelled or something. But now back to the topic, you really gave some solid points and features for a new game, I actually would like a story/lore campaign mode, even it would be nice a some sort of campaing for all the ship's manufactures (Feisar, AG Systems, Pirannha, etc...) based on different events with some optional extra task/missions to complete. And another mode that would be nice but kind crazy to do it, it would be an: "Online Zone Mode" option, and what it would be?, well just a crazy "Battle Royale" like mode in which is you VS another lots of other players in ghost's mode (for avoid collision but still you get damage by crashing or go out of the track) in trying to finish the highest zone that you could reach, the last player that survive win the game. And the big difference between the single player and the online one is since you are watching various other player's ghosts, it could be quite distracting to play and that's the main aspect, you have to focus a lot in the game, like it said that good old slang or phrase: be "In the Zone", lol!.
I think Wipeout Rush was released and then delisted but I might be wrong. An online Zone mode sort of exist in Zone battles that was added in the Fury expansion for Wipeout HD but it's not exactly the same as you describe, you're idea sounds interesting too! And I agree with you regarding the story, implementing that in the campaign would definitely bring some character to the game.
Story/lore and online progression would be awesome ways to give a hypothetical Wipeout more depth and expand methods of interaction - I think a track creator tool would be excellent as well, since it would provide some serious longevity and endless content
I quite like the idea of a lore filled career mode/story. Especially if the world building aspect was really dystopian and it was all corrupt politics and shady corporations. Like the world is really overpopulated and polluted, and Wipeout is a death sport with the pilots being mostly convicts and when ships are eliminated in races, the pilots are killed. It would be so cool if it was really dark like that.
I would like a f1 style campaign, where you select a team, customize it, do different events, and level up the vehicle all the way to phantom (letting you decide what stats to improve). Of course arcade mode and multiplayer should remain as they are in the selection of vehicles and stock speed classes. Don't want to grind in the campaign for the other modes imo. Maybe a special skin/prototype car if you complete the campaign with that team, but not gameplay/stats related. Skins, and maybe custom liveries are more than enough for customization, 3d modifications would be a waste of budget and ruin the original designs. I would like a special boost mechanic that drains your shield when used, like in ballistic ng I would also like to see it set between wipeout 1&3, 2079-2083? we haven't got to see that cyberpunky, psychedelic, 90s futurism in modern graphics in a wipeout game if you think about it. 2048 is basically today with sci fi parts attached to it, Fusion was it's own 50s weird thing, And after that it's all ultramodern futurism. So i would like to see the ps1 era settings remade after 30 years of graphics evolution. And the most important point: PC realease.
You make some solid points. I completely agree with you regarding the time period a potential new game should take place in. And a multi platform release would be really good for the online community as well. Thanks a a lot for checking out the video!
Great video! This is all fine so long as things stay optional and skippable. Especially a potential story mode. Not gonna lie, I have a burning hatred for these, I think they're lame, badly acted and forced onto the player (and unskippable, which is the bane of my existence, I mean, the ego in that from the devs...). It's literally what drove me (pun intended) off of all the -crest and -fest games. Some people play racers to race (I know, shocking) and certain days they just have a few minutes a day to dedicate to their passion, which is not really navigating menus or watching a questionable rendition of "Oh there you are, I've heard a lot about you, I hear you're quite the hot head"
I think you summed up story in racing games quite well with that last quote :) I agree that the story elements must be optional for the same reasons you describe. There are however racing games with a good story, Jak X is one that comes to mind.
@AGRacingCentral Haha you could tell all the love I have for story modes :D Thanks for Jak X, I'm actually not familiar with that one, I'll check it out :)
Original music from classic Wipeout's, original classic race tracks, and 2049/XL's animal code should come back but the virtual zone time attack events can be left out.👍😁
I have actually recently been listening quite a lot to the soundtrack of the older Wipeout games so I am definitely inclined to agree with you on that point :)
make it cross platform to PC would be cool as i cant play Wipeout omega as its purly on the Playstation. Redout Pacer and Ballistic Ng are great but i miss Wipeout😊
I wouldn't say Sony is motivated by greed to larger extent than any other major shareholder owned company in the entertainment business. And don get me started on Nintendo in that regard :) I wouldn't say it's certain that a new Wipeout will be released but I don't think it's completely out of the question either.
@@AmaroqStarwind I disagree. It's a fun mechanic that should be in the game but it's obvious that side shifts are used in ways the developers never intended. A simple adjustment might be all it needs though, removing the speed increase is probably all it takes to make the mechanic be used less spammy and in a more logical way.
Thank you for watching! Feel free to leave a comment if you have something particular that you would like to see in a future Wipeout game.

I completely agree, a better online infrastructure is crucial for a potential Wipeout sequel.
In terms of story and lore... I'm genuinely shocked that Sony hasn't explored doing kind of a prestige cyberpunk sci-fi drama series based on WipeOut.
I tried to make a new visionary WipEout installment set in the FX450 Racing League.
That sounds awesome, feel free to link to any images you may have :)
Another great video. It would be awesome if another WipEout game was eventually released with the improvements you mentioned.
Thanks a lot! I hope so too :) I'm also very happy to see some of your videos are getting really good views as well.
@@AGRacingCentral Thank you, it has happened quite unexpectedly but I am happy to see people are enjoying my content
I would like a special boost mechanic that drains your shield when used, like in ballistic ng
I would also like to see it set between wipeout 1&3, 2079-2083? we haven't got to see that cyberpunky, psychedelic, 90s futurism in modern graphics in a wipeout game if you think about it.
2048 is basically today with sci fi parts attached to it,
Fusion was it's own 50s weird thing,
And after that it's all ultramodern futurism.
1 thing I want on a new Wipeout game:
please.
Yup that's a good place to start :)
A more 2097 influenced game would be perfect. Best in the series
It's many people's favorite. I'm sure you have heard about BallisticNG, it mimics the gameplay and graphics of the early Wipeout games quite well.
Maybe next year we'll see "WipEout 2125"
We can always keep our fingers crossed :)
Thing number ZERO: A new Wipeout game!
Yup, that would be a good start :)
Yes i want a new one too
Yes, don't we all? :)
make it cross platform to PC would be cool as i cant play Wipeout omega as its purly on the Playstation. Redout Pacer and Ballistic Ng are great but i miss Wipeout😊
We can always keep our fingers crossed for that to happen! Sony has been releasing some of their first and third party games to other platforms.
@@AGRacingCentral fingers crossed 🤞
Good luck getting a new Wipeout. Sony wants only one thing and it's disgusting 💰
I wouldn't say Sony is motivated by greed to larger extent than any other major shareholder owned company in the entertainment business. And don get me started on Nintendo in that regard :) I wouldn't say it's certain that a new Wipeout will be released but I don't think it's completely out of the question either.
@@AGRacingCentral well after that mobile gacha card wipeout game I wouldn't have high hopes. gacha card wipeout game episode when ? ;)
8:05 No. Just no.
Oh yes :) Something needs to be done about side shifting no matter how cool of a mechanic it is!
@@AGRacingCentral Side shifts are fine.
