Im the same as yourself Ruben, kind of late to the Rush party, A couple of years ago i was repairing a friends motorcycle in his garage and he played this cd, being a guitar player i just stopped in my tracks and said what in the hell is that??? He said 'Rush' and i've been hooked ever since. The thing that pulled me in on the first hearing that day was the strange time signatures and riff timings, i would just sit for hours till i could play them! Geddy's voice was amazing when he was younger, he could really belt out a vocal! He still has that distinctive range but when younger on the high notes he has that power to put a bit of grittiness and power to the top notes, Brilliant!
Thank you for taking our suggestion, Ruben! 2112 was a truly transformative time for Rush in their early years. Of course, as you listen to more of their 4 decades of music, you'll discover most of the time they were transforming themselves... all the while maintaining THEIR sound, and their integrity. It's a real pleasure watching someone experiencing this for the first time. Thank you again.
Fun fact. Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation = 21 Words We have assumed control. We have assumed control. We have assumed control. = 12 words. 2112, pretty cool, huh?
Another Fun Fact: ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION 21 words plus WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL 12 words = 2112
You said "can't compare to any other band" is absolutely right on. More than you will ever know. Now listen to it again, and again. It just gets better. Timeless masterpiece.
I first listened to this at age 12 , forty years later it still captivates, holds you and takes you to another place , it’s a timeless piece that never gets old...A masterpiece...I just listened for the 400th time and still love it...
This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. Rush is like a perfect storm. I have been calling this a Prog-Opera for years. I have put on the headphones and listened to this hundreds if not thousands of times. The look on your face mirrors mine. Life changing; isn't it?
Everyone who is into rock prog or metal knows this epic song. You're right, you were probably the last man on the galaxy who didn't know. Not anymore, so welcome to the federation! Great reaction!
Seeing you smile and jamming out to this song made me cry. It brought back memories of hearing them play it on their last tour. I’m so happy you’re enjoying Rush. I have only been a fan for about 4 years, and I’ve listened to 2112 about 70 times. It still hasn’t gotten old
It's a great thrill watching someone experience this masterpiece for the first time. I suppose Red Barchetta might be a good song to listen to next, to me, 2112 is the pinnacle
Other Rush recommendations: Epic Prog Pieces: Cygnus X-1, and Hemispheres (Cygnus X-1 Book II), The Fountain of Lamneth, The Necromancer, By-Tor and the Snow Dog Pre-synth Short(er) Songs: Anthem, Bastille Day, Circumstances, Something for Nothing, The Trees, Closer to the Heart, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Red Barchetta, Limelight 80's Synth Era: Subdivisions, Countdown, Red Sector A, Analog Kid, Digital Man, Losing It, Force Ten, Time Stand Still, Manhattan Project, Marathon Post-synth Era: Show Don't Tell, The Pass, Presto, Dreamline, Bravado, Ghost of a Chance, Where's My Thing?, Double Agent, Everyday Glory, Driven, Resist, Carve Away the Stone Post Neil's Tragedy Era: Ghost Rider, Peaceable Kingdom, Far Cry, Armor & Sword, The Main Monkey Business, Malignant Narcissism, Spindrift Finally, Listen to their last album, Clockwork Angels in its entirety.
I am so glad that you’re discovering just how fantastic Rush is. And 2112, to me, is Rush’s Opus. The ultimate journey. Suggestions for you, Ruben, on your evolution with the Trio - go forward five years and three albums to Permanent Waves - Spirit of Radio and, my personal favorite from that album, Natural Science. Permanent Waves laid the groundwork for Moving Pictures, which was Rush’s high water mark with many. Love the reactions, and keep more Rush coming!!
Ruben I'm glad you liked 2112 it really shows a good range of their skills. Try Farewell to Kings, Spirit of Radio, The Trees, Fly by Night, Camera Eye.
Oh my God what a roller coaster ride. That’s what this song makes me think of. Transition’s are so amazing. It lull’s you to sleep as it relaxes you. Then with a massive building intensity it just builds up to a super sweat fest. Now you can see why they called themselves RUSH. Total rush. It’s genius art with a story to tell with all these instrumentals. Love your ending reactions. In a crazy world we live in now with this pandemic’s grasp and crazy politics, music is a great way to escape the madness. I loved all these amazing transitional songs in one. Rock on. Many best wishes from Canada. Home of one of the best bands ever....
I put Hemispheres in the #1 position of the Rush discography. there is not a single moment that is not masterpiece in the 4 pieces on that album. The bass is other-worldly
I cannot believe this does not have more likes. BRAVO my friend. It's such a RUSH *HAH. KNEE SLAP* to see someone react to this band for the first time. Nothing compares. Like it or hate it. They will never be matched. Cheers and MUCH love.~ ^-^
I'd never seen that comic version before watching this video. Thanks for that, so much. This song is how Music Itself began for me. I have no particular interest in music before I heard this. I was 12 years old. I've listened to this 23-minute song hundreds of times.
Watching you is like sitting with a friend who's hearing something for the first time, and waiting (and waiting), and thinking..... "Oh shit he's about to hear THAT !" Pure joy.
So glad you finally experienced that Epic RUSH album...welcome to our world, and remember, they were only young 22 year olds...and the sound was ahead of it time... I loved watching how u transformed...!
This was my introduction to Rush in 1976 aged 13, it blew me away and been a fan ever since. I am now 57 and Rush are no more. But they left us all those Fantastic Albums.
Here's something weird for ya... Last lyrics are "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation". They say those 7 words 3 times. Then it ends with "We have assumed control". Those 4 words are said 3 times. 7 x 3 = 21... 4 x 3 =12...... 2112
TacomaPaul Amazing!! The depth and layering of music,Transitions, story line, artistry, timing, and even encoding the album title into the close of the composition! It’s Musical and compositional Genius! Just Love RUSH!
I come back and watch this like once a year. Great reaction to an epic story that's so true and all put to a musical masterpiece. Cheers Ruben, I hope you're doing well!
Quick opinion: I caught the quick cartoon accompaniment to the song and how this rock overture and I mean that specifically since it's broken into movements, hasn't been made into a musical drama of sorts escapes me. It would be epic. For Ruben : I think you noted that you could probably listen to this many times and kept hearing something different. Did anyone pick up the 1812 Overature overlapping the 2112 overture near the end before the explosions precluding Temple? Interesting the dates are similar is no accident.
Omg ..... been listening to that since 1977 and never put that together! That’s an awesome musical treasure right there. Kinda ties the chaos of that time with their story.
Two of the members changed their names as it was the case back in those days in North America to seem more Anglo. Alexandar Zivojinovich (Serbian) is Alex Lifeson's real name. Gary Lee Weinrib (Jewish) is Geddy Lee's real name. Neil Peart never changed his name but did go to England to try out for some bands. He played locally in my town with my Brother-in-Law (Bob L)and his brother (Gary L) with JR Flood and Hush before going to Rush in Toronto. If only my sister married the drummer and not the base player.
I had a hard time liking Rush because of the vocals until I listened to hemispheres. Then I went back to the beginning and started over. Been with them for 35 years now and love it. The way they can play all over the place and then come together for the climax is a trade mark for them that still gives me goose bumps.
It is fairly new, not sure when it was made, I guessing in the last few years. I first found it about 2 years ago on the official RUSH youtube channel.
Yes I know that, I was talking about he animated video version that the OP was referring too, any idea when that was made? PS, My two sons are named Neil and Alex, I know there is no such thing as a casual RUSH fan but I am obsessed. I was depressed for a week when I found out they were hanging it up.
Glad you’re getting to know Rush! Please listen to Spirit of Radio next. It’s a song they usually opened their concerts with. Awesome guitar licks and powerful intro. You’ll love it!
I love you experiencing Rush....My whole life were Rush and the Beatles....I have no complaints....Just please listen to Genesis "Suppers Ready"..The most amazing song never heard
Rush has always been one of my top 3 favorite bands, and you’ve now covered my two favorite songs, 2112 and Xanadu. I’d throw in a vote for Farewell to Kings. Or for something more recent, Far Cry. Or for something older and weirder (but fun), By-Tor and the Snow Dog. At any rate, welcome aboard once again. Never too late.
I love Rush, i've been listening their music since i was 8 years old... now im 30 and still makes me feel like when i just discovered them. PLZ CHECK " YOURS IS NO DISGRACE " by YES (another of my favorites bands ever)
Hello from Canada! Commenting quite a while after your upload of this vid., just to say that if you didn't know this, was Rush's response to their record company requesting "...shorter, more radio-friendly songs" (!) It's the OTHER reason so many musicians respect and admire them so reverently. They said: "We'll go down as ourselves if we jhave to, but we ain't changing nothing!"
Thanks for the amazing review. Check out the songs: 'the pass' (it's about suicide prevention) and also the song 'nobodys hero'. Those two are amazing works that came out around midway through their career. They are a bit on the softer side but stand out for the lyrics. The pass is one of geddys favorite tunes.
Like many, I'm a big Rush fan. I recently came upon your RUclips channel & your reactions to some of their music. Please check out "Red Sector A" from "Grace Under Pressure" if you already haven't.. Geddy Lee's parents were not yet married & were both in separate concentration camps during WW2. Obviously, they survived, married & ended up coming over to Canada. This song....hell, the whole album is great! Thanks! (PS; you're right about 1 thing...they were an AWESOME band in concert/live & anyone who were unfortunate enough to not get the chance to go see them 😁 missed out big time!).
Geddy has the absolute perfect voice when he sings the part of the priest of the temple! No other voice could represent the part, only Geddy’s! I never thought of 2112 as the Rush bohemian rhapsody, it’s structured differently as you said! The story, length and orchestration together with it being a composition masterpiece, I feel would make it the Rush equivalent to Queens bohemian rhapsody! Very good analogy!
I'm so happy to see how this wonderful band has effected you. They had a similar effect on me when I first heard them back in 1977. Now, that's side one. As awesome as it was, there is still another excellent side to hear. Enjoy.
Watching you listening to this album reminds me of listening to it over and over when I was a teenager! It's crazy to see someone profile this great album. Rush's earlier albums are all concept albums, They all have the whole story for the album.
I remember the moment when I bought this LP :D. This was back in the day of actual record shops where you could listen to the music before you bought it by having the shopkeeper play it for you in the store :chuckles:. I like to say that I got to about the third chord and said "I'll take it!" but it was more likely about half way into Overture :grins:.
I'm sure there are plenty of people your age that aren't familiar with Rush. They were primarily a 70s-80s band. Sure, they kept touring, but their audience was primarily those who grew up with them.
Another worldly concept album worth listening to is Queensryche The Warning. My 3rd favorite album of all time behind AC/DC Back in Black and Boston's debut album
2112 is a Iconic record in Rush 70s catalog Released in 76 gave the band there Freedom from the record company to do what they wanted moving farward. Rush gave us a record with a attitude of the time. the previous records Rush, Fly By Night and Caress of Steel Didn't offer. Rush drummer John Rutsey had to leave the band because of his Diabetes he couldn't go on the Road across America because of his illness. Niel Peart Joined the band in 74 and wrote lyrics to 99% of Rushes material which gave Geddy and Alex More time to work on there sound. Rush wasnt together long and Fly By Night and Caress of Steel while they are good records also shows how they was raw in there sound and still trying to figure out what they want to do with there sound. 2112 was a break through album and gave them a freedom to express themselves musically. also paved away a great Career in Music that lasted 40 plus years of music. While A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres ended the 70's decade with good classics. But 2112 as stood over them as a bench mark for Rush's sound and what has become the best Rush Album in Rush's Career as a band through popular vote. but as you keep digging into Rush the more songs you hear you'll realize as good as 2112 is..Its just a reflection of a Bands Brilliants and talent they have and the love they play through the music that made them best 3 piece to ever play Music. and the best thing about it is they did it there way..my advise to you is not to limit yourself to a paticular song you got listen to every record to appreciate Rush. RUSH Fly By Night Caress Of Steel 2112 A Farewell to Kings Hemispheres Permanent Waves Moving Pictures Signals Grace Under Pressure Power Windows Hold Your Fire Presto Roll The Bones Counterparts Test For Echo Vapor Trails Snakes And Arrows Clock Work Angels Live records is Awesome All The worlds A Stage, Exit Stage Left, Through the Camera EYE, A show of Hands, Different Stages, R30, R40
The beauty of Rush is that their music touches your soul.
Although it's unlikely I will be around, anyone else think the 2112 Olympics should be held in Toronto?
As a Torontonian, let me just give that a big fat NO!
Or what do I care, I'll be dead by then anyway.
Fuck the Olympics
And they should play the song at the start
UNDER THE ICE?? Doubtful..
The IOC is a joke. Only authoritarian nations even try to host Olympic games anymore. That also applies to FIFA (Qatar).

Have you heard Craig Chaquico? Hearing your reaction to Rush's guitar, I wonder if you'll have a similar reaction to this acoustic smooth jazz.
FINALLY!!! A Rush song and their masterpiece at that.
YOU NEED TO DO MORE RUSH!!!!
Thank you for taking our suggestion, Ruben! 2112 was a truly transformative time for Rush in their early years. Of course, as you listen to more of their 4 decades of music, you'll discover most of the time they were transforming themselves... all the while maintaining THEIR sound, and their integrity. The function and form. An ounce of perception a pound of obscure
You have listened to the Mecca of all music welcome to Rush there is no way out
We have assumed control
the way out is the way in.
And it blows your brain out!
Errr... no pun intended between Mecca and "blowing your brain". Well, maybe a little.
I got that reference, Secret Touch hahahaha
I've listened to this album since it's release in 1976 and it still gives me the chills.
RUSH forever!!
Perfect combination of talent, effort and chemistry.
Watched all your Rush reactions and seeing the smile on your face discovering their music brings a smile to my face.
Fun fact. The "We have assumed control" voice at the end is none other than Neil Peart.
Cool fact
Fun fact.
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation = 21 Words
We have assumed control.
We have assumed control.
We have assumed control. = 12 words. 2112, pretty cool, huh?
Well, I'll be damned. That's a new one. Great catch.
Another Fun Fact:
ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION
ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION
ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION
21 words plus
WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL
WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL
WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL
12 words = 2112
@ Friedman You're two weeks behind Koalaz.
You said maybe your the last Man on Earth to hear Rush....But...maybe you're like the Man who found the guitar Bro!!
Geddy's vocal Dynamics really bring an emotional balance between the presenter and the priests
Great reaction to THE greatest Trio of all time and space!
You said "can't compare to any other band" is absolutely right on. More than you will ever know. Now listen to it again, and again. It just gets better. Timeless masterpiece.
Neil EPIC! Alex EPIC! Geddy on Bass EPIC, and his SINGING on this is one of the GREATEST VOCAL PERFORMANCES EVER!!
The Soliloquy solo is my favorite solo of all time. It's simply fantastic.
I first listened to this at age 12 , forty years later it still captivates, holds you and takes you to another place , it’s a timeless piece that never gets old...A masterpiece...I just listened for the 400th time and still love it...
twenty one twelve , rolls off the tongue beautifully doesn't it?
its a masterpiece
after all these years it still brings a tear to my eye

I love that Red Barchetta was recorded live in the studio....
Listen to this song almost weekly for years and years.... Can't get enough
Rush is incomparable. Best three musicians to play toghether ever.
I was listening to this when i was in 5th grade...Dad would play this on his turntable all the time. Thanks Dad for a great childhood.

Blessed to see them live...it was a treat to see three musicians at their peak
Junkyard 780 I cherish those times
Recommend Cygnus x1 part Two from Hemispheres or maybe the whole Hemispheres album as a prog Saturday thing. I think it is their best album.
2112 is clearly their epic track but Hemispheres is a far better song and album straight through.
I put Hemispheres in the #1 position of the Rush discography. there is not a single moment that is not masterpiece in the 4 pieces on that album. The bass is other-worldly
I wholeheartedly agree. Hemispheres is just a freaking masterpiece from start to finish!
If you do that, he needs to start with beginning of the story from A Farewell To Kings..
I cannot believe this does not have more likes. BRAVO my friend. It's such a RUSH *HAH. KNEE SLAP* to see someone react to this band for the first time. Nothing compares. Like it or hate it. They will never be matched. Cheers and MUCH love.~ ^-^
Chills, chills and more chills.. can't get enough
I'd never seen that comic version before watching this video. Thanks for that, so much. This song is how Music Itself began for me. I have no particular interest in music before I heard this. I was 12 years old. I've listened to this 23-minute song hundreds of times.
For a 3 piece band they sound more like an orchestra :D I love Rush! Good to see someone else enjoying their music.
Ruben this music and your shirt are PERFECT together............ RUSH ON !!!
Ah real music
Watching you is like sitting with a friend who's hearing something for the first time, and waiting (and waiting), and thinking..... "Oh shit he's about to hear THAT !"
Pure joy.

This was my introduction to Rush in 1976 aged 13, it blew me away and been a fan ever since. I am now 57 and Rush are no more. But they left us all those Fantastic Albums.
"Without humility we can never realize our true humanity."
This humbled you. Nice.
BOOM 🤯
Thanks for you reaction, you are great, thanks a lot for this song, Rush all the way baby, greetings from Mexico!
Rush, it's a way of life.....30 years in and i'm still addicted! You're journey has just begun, enjoy the ride!
I come back and watch this like once a year. Great reaction to an epic story that's so true and all put to a musical masterpiece. Cheers Ruben, I hope you're doing well!
Nice! The musicianship on this album got me hooked on Rush back in '79. Rush rocks. Fact.
Love your reaction This has been my favorite Rush album I was 15 when this came out !
Joe Dov me too..born in 61
Now that you havw dove into a 20 minute epic you should check out another Rush classic. That being Cygnus X1 part 2 from Hemispheres album
Ruben, your reactions bring renewed appreciation for me to this great music. Thank you!
Quick opinion: I caught the quick cartoon accompaniment to the song and how this rock overture and I mean that specifically since it's broken into movements, hasn't been made into a musical drama of sorts escapes me. It would be epic.

OH HEY! What up dude😂😂 I wasn’t expecting to see you in the comments
Two of the members changed their names as it was the case back in those days in North America to seem more Anglo. Alexandar Zivojinovich (Serbian) is Alex Lifeson's real name. I don't remember ever seeing that animation video for 2112. I think I preferred to just sit back with my eyes closed and soak it all in.
Did you like it?
I had a hard time liking Rush because of the vocals until I listened to hemispheres. Then I went back to the beginning and started over. Been with them for 35 years now and love it. It is fairly new, not sure when it was made, I guessing in the last few years. I first found it about 2 years ago on the official RUSH youtube channel.
Craig Manning - RUSH 2112 was recorded in 1976.
This was a stoner's classic back in the 70's. Cruising through town with it cranked to 11 on the 8 track.
I love you experiencing Rush....My whole life were Rush and the Beatles....I have no complaints....Just please listen to Genesis "Suppers Ready"..The most amazing song never heard
Tod Cornellier Genesis is an excellent suggestion. Best watched live!
Amen to that, if you lived only hearing those two bands, you'd surely not be disappointed.
Discovery straight to Presentation, a wonderful piece of transition
I imagine after this 'Prog rick Saturday' you are now a huge Rush fan and are exploring their catalog of greatness.
Legendary album from a legendary band..
I love Rush, i've been listening their music since i was 8 years old... now im 30 and still makes me feel like when i just discovered them. PLZ CHECK " YOURS IS NO DISGRACE " by YES (another of my favorites bands ever)
You sir have great taste in music. RUSH and YES make up 90% of what I like to listen to.
This hit my feed right as I have to leave for work. Damn! I have SO been waiting for this reaction. God's music here.
Now you know the feeling we all had after listening to this album. Welcome to the club!
Welcome to the rabbit hole. There's no turning back now. Enjoy, it only gets better
Hello from Canada! It's the OTHER reason so many musicians respect and admire them so reverently. They said: "We'll go down as ourselves if we jhave to, but we ain't changing nothing!"
Starting at 5:23 that's one of the best badass things Rush ever did with the drums.
Thanks for the amazing review. Check out the songs: 'the pass' (it's about suicide prevention) and also the song 'nobodys hero'. A MASTERPIECE!! BEST ALBUM EVER!!
I suggest "The Trees/Xanadu" live from Exit Stage Left.
Geds vocals were sooooo amazing when he was young!!
Loved your reaction to freebird. Interesting point of view here. Love your passion for the music
Rush are prophets....2112 is approaching and so are many of their other songs....message sent....
Geddy has the absolute perfect voice when he sings the part of the priest of the temple! No other voice could represent the part, only Geddy’s! I always get emotional during the "Soliloquy" just like you did, I really like your honest reactions!
Please try Hemispheres next . In my opinion Hemispheres, 2112 and Moving Pictures are all masterpieces. No other band in the world sounds like Rush.
This and A farwell to kings were the first 2 Rush albums I got when I was 12 or 13 and been hooked ever since,,Good stuff..
Another great vid by you! Love your accent! Love the animation that really explains the album well!
Have been really enjoying your reactions, especially your Rush ones! Keep em' coming! I recommend Hemispheres next. I'm positive you'll love it!
You need to smoke some good weed also ....lol
You have only just begun,so much Rush Music yet to do!
What a fucking masterpiece, glad you finally got to experience this.
hey ruben it's amazing how 3 guys make so much sound
And it gets better every time!!
Great! Now you should do "Jacob's Ladder" and "Natural Science" :D

Both are amazing, I agree.
now play side B= MIND BLOWN!! Such a complete album and my favorite of the vast catalog from Rush
Loved the reaction! First time seeing that animation. Wasn't sure how I was going to feel about that aspect but, it was well made. Cheers!
The songs for the radio stations to play are for the record label.
2112, yyz, zanadu, la villa stangiato, etc are for the fans.
Hemispheres is probably my favorite of the marathon songs .
You should check out The camera eye live in cleveland.
to put this in perspective..this is part of a trilogy
thats maybe the most epic rush song. Now only Cygnus x-1 and youre a true Rush fan. Keep it going and enjoy!
A masterful work of early progressive rock.
