19-year-old scientist uses vegetable oil and rust powder to treat microplastic pollution

Meet Fionn Ferreira, a 19-year-old scientist from Ireland who is tackling microplastic pollution with innovative solutions using vegetable oil and rust powder. Named the global winner of the Google Science Fair 2019, Fionn is scaling his technology for widespread use in water treatment.
Currently studying Chemistry in the Netherlands, he’s also a National Geographic grantee and a youth innovation speaker. Fionn’s mission? To inspire everyone to combat the environmental crisis with their unique ideas.
