To conceptually understand colour one should check out Albert Munsell. He uses the terminology Value instead of the word Tone. Value means how light or how dark something is, understanding Value is one of the most difficult things to grasp when you start to draw or paint. He also discusses Chroma which is saturation and Hue as in the colour yellow, orange or blue etc. I hope this helps.
Just came across this tutorial. First of all, thanks for taking the time to explain the process. You explain the process just fine. Don't doubt yourself. You working on anything now? Really benefit from your channel.
Do you plan on turning this into your full time job? Cause the amount of work you put into it, not just from drawing but the editing. From personal experience, editing an hour video takes a lot of time. Amazing work.
Thai you Nee a very interesting and informative video. I have just started recently drawing with coloured pencils. I have the Caran d’ache and the Faber Castell pencils and yes I am having trouble blending them without burnishing. I guess I have to learn more patience and take my time more. Thanks for you videos they’re really helpful. Having trouble with tones tho.
You actually make perfect sense. It's just really hard to explain what matching tones/ values means and even harder to understand if you don't already know that! Maybe suggest to your followers asking about it to create a value scale in graphite, punch holes in it to single out a place on the reference and match the tone that way. Something I've seen in other tutorials! You're work is phenomenal and I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and answer questions! That makes you awesome!
Seeing you draw this has inspire me to start drawing again . Even if you have a hard time explaining things please make videos on how to match tones . There isn’t many videos on RUclips explaining these things plus even getting to see they way you think and do the drawings helps also I would like to know how you do the outline of your drawings ! Thank you! Keep up the vids !
I’m almost done watching this. Thank you for sharing and removing all the extra time you spent sharpening, etc. Please do start teaching. I’m sure you can do it :). Also, I’m happy I wasn’t playing a drinking game where I had to drink every time you said tonal values. Lol wonderful work as usual!!
Wonderful job. I can understand the time and effort it takes to edit a video over an hour and give voice over it. Your sense of studying colours from reference is excellent. I wish I can do that so accurately 😀
Oh wow it's crazy, I scrapped a portrait too awhile back because I flattened the tooth on the nose area and I was so frustrated I started all over. I feel your frustration with that kind of thing!
I'm just starting out and have been searching for the same things that you did at the beginning. I am going to start learning to "Match Tones" as you have suggested. Also I have researched your Patreon channel but don't see any content. Is this something that you are perusing? I would spend the money to learn from you ...
Did you know you can buy 'prismacolor Very Thin' colour pencils. They are hard wax based and keep a sharp point. 😉 I think you will make a great teacher. You're very patient with people questions, are kind hearted, generous spirit and you are very happy to share you're knowledge. You'll do great. You don't suck at all. I look forward to learning from you.
High, what do you recommend for a white pencil? I used a white of pastel pencil and it wasn't doing any effect when used on top of the dark colours. Thank you
I most definitely agree with other viewers that you are among the best artists on youtube. I aspire to one day get my art as photorealistic as yours! I actually am planning to soon create an art channel. Maybe we can do a collab one day! Heheh only time will tell! ;-D
Heyyy you are insanely amazing 👏😍❤🔥🔥💯💯 I Don't have words to praise you talent 🙌❤🙏 jussss wonderful ❤💖 plsss make some more real time tutorials plsss It's a request plsss🙏🙏🙏🙏😇😇 this helped me a lottt😍😍❤❤
Just for saying that... I know that you don't do this anymore on this channel, but I wanted to tell it the same ☺️ you absolutely DON'T suck as teacher, you don't have any idea of how much I improved just watching you drawing 😉 and about explaining, maybe it's me, but I can perfectly understand and see what's the point in your answers. So thank you.
Daily I use to watch your video when I am going to sleep after watching full 1hr or 5 hrs then only I sleep..got to learning more from your video..little disappointing 😞...but happy 😊 that your back with animation at least
Amazing work buddy! Btw may I know where you get those high quality references from? Cause if I download them from Pinterest.. I couldn't get the details clearly..so I just wanna know.. And thank you for the videos ❤️
When building the layers, do you start to increase the pressure the more layers you put down or is the pressure you use on layer 50 the same pressure you used on layer 1?
Hey there nee yellow it's me again. Can you maybe do a video about textures for example scales, skin and wood.Thx I would really apreciate it.PS I love your work
Well done, professor. I also draw, but I hope to learn portraiture. I have water-based colors. Do you benefit in portraiture? Thank you.❤hussein from iraq❤
I just discovered you today. What do you mean by “tone”? Do you mean value, lightness or darkness? Or do you mean hue, the actual color? Because I know if you get the values right, you can do drawings in whatever color you may.
Can anyone tell me what 4 main colors of Polychromous pencils he is using? He mentioned 2 different colors of Pink and 2 browns but I cannot find a reference for them ...
