What are the 3 main Signs of a TRAINED FIGHTER would you look out for before a street fight?

One of the main things I'm scanning is their walk. Are they covering a distance fast while smooth, is there a hitch which indicates some prior damage and a point of attack for a kick or taking down to the ground.
I ran into a guy at home depot, I thought for sure he was a football player and asked him what he weighed, I guessed 250lbs, but he told me he was 270lbs and actually a boxer who had a few pro fights til he injured his knee. Dude had cantaloupes for fists, massive. Dont think I'd want any part of a fight with him but he was friendly and appreciated I had asked.

Two things you cant weight train are your joints, and your sensory organs/nervous.
Now, the issue is setting up attacks for those weak-points while keeping yourself safe
The solution is training your body, mind-body connection, and limbic system

These are good signs to know a trained fighter but they won't tell you if the person is dangerous, crazy or a criminal. So even if a person is not a trained fighter and doesn't have any of these signs, they can still be dangerous people that will murder you with a weapon.
Better avoid physical conflict with any stranger no matter how they look or behave unless there is absolutely no choice.

World class fighters yes they won't risk anything, bit amateur gyms ate full of good fighters who are full of the same range of most groups of people. Being a trained fighter doesn't mean that they will be well adjusted human beings. Plenty of trained fighters are involved in the darker side of society, lot of amateur boxers/mma fighters in prison for example.

My dad was a champion muay thai fighter in Thailand. It's one thing to be a muay thai fighter another to be a champion in Thailand. He was 5'9 thin ,big knuckles and he's ankles and his legs were hard as rock (brusied).. he was very quiet, just super humble..he looked nerdy. He had no temper esp. with me there.. I've seen men yelling almost belittling him but he would walk away unfazed. I would even get pissed... until one day, he was talking to his friend , a mechanic who overcharged my mom few thousands for a 100 job..my thai is off but I saw that man talk nonstop to my dad nonstop, he just kept pushing it ... and I swear it was less than 10 seconds. My dad knocked him out. It was two punches soo fast. I mean that man dropped.. I was 10 years old, of course I was freaked out.. but I didn't know about humility esp in thai culture.. they are so in control of temper its crazy.. my dad and most fighters would not fight until it was necessary. They don't usually fight to harm but defend. Muay thai fighting is offensive, it's straight harsh street fighting, brutal. Anyways you never know but I agree with the assessment. Damn miss my dad now. Take care

Physical signs don't always tell. I've seen guys and gals with long hair, normal ears, skinny or chubby, small hands, who duck walk, absolutely demolish guys. I think the biggest giveaway, with people who actually train proper to the fullest degree and know their skill set very well, is their demeanor. They are usually very calm, polite, little signs of fear, and don't try to intimidate. I'm my opinion, those types are the scariest mofos out there.

The reality is you can not tell. I have worked in bars, and still do, since the late 80’s. I have seen many hundreds of real fights take place in various settings from giant clubs to smaller bars with only a few hundred people. Forget trying to figure out such nonsense. It doesn’t work anyway. If you are a trained fighter, there is a chance that you could injure someone badly, even a bystander, and as a result, you may be arrested. Then, you will have to prove your innocence, which cost a ton of money and may not be successful. You may have to pay fines, restitution, lose your job, or even lose your freedom. Most people that can fight, will therefore, avoid such altercations, because this is not their first rodeo. Do yourself a favor. Get the attention of the bartender or staff. That way, if something does happen, they will explain to the police that you were attempting to get help. Oftentimes, that’s the end of it. If there is no one to testify for your side, and your adversary has friends, they will say you beat up their friend for no reason. The police will listen to the staff in most cases.

If you've ever really hurt someone in training by mistake, or a contest, you know how horrible it is and doing it in public can land you in jail.

    Thank-you for the video.
Most fighters I know (outside of Kyokushin) have very smooth hands and knuckles, as they have spent hours and hours enclosed in sweaty gloves. In over twenty years of training karate and boxing, I have never come across a fighter with cauliflower ears. I have also never noticed any lopsidedness, even amongst elite, single-stance boxers. Of course, my experience may not be the norm.
Given that most men have short(ish) hair, hair length does not provide a very useful cue, and you certainly wouldn't want to assume that because a person has long hair, they are incompetent. Someone who no longer trains regularly but formerly trained to an even moderate standard is still a formidable opponent. This fact also warns against disregarding people who seem overweight or underweight, small or otherwise innocuous or athletically atypical.
As mentioned towards the end of this video, composure in potentially violent situations is often an excellent indication, if not of training, of experience, but making any assumptions based upon any aspects of a person's presentation is fraught with danger.
Most importantly, whether or not a person is a trained fighter should never be a factor in your decision to fight them. You only fight if you deem it necessary. Period. Taking on someone merely because you think you can beat them is ethically unsound, unless perhaps you are outnumbered, the fight is highly likely or inevitable, and you need to reduce the number of opponents as quickly as possible.
Different cues provided by different fighters as to their discipline may seem useful when deciding how to engage, but even here, you're better off assuming that they are capable with all limbs, and in grappling as well as striking.
Also, never assume that the only guy causing trouble is the only guy (or girl) willing to cause trouble. One-on-one can soon turn into death by gang assault. Six people who don't know how to fight and who suddenly feel a drunken rush of immense loyalty for a guy they only met half an hour ago is still a very big issue to overcome.
For those of us who are unlucky enough to live in, or regularly travel through, volatile environments, the following advice will be of little consolation. Nevertheless, and at the risk of stating the obvious, three of the best decisions you can make in relation to maintaining your personal safety during a night on the town are:
    1) Choice of venue and route: This will go a long, long way to ensuring you never have to make the decision to engage, and you can make this choice before you leave the safety of home.
    2) Limiting alcohol intake (and alternating alcoholic drinks with water) is vital if you want to stand a reasonable chance of maintaining some semblance of control - including sound decision-making - in difficult situations.
    3) Leave before things turn ugly. Many violent situations are easily predicted; prefaced by an atmosphere of macho aggression way before any physical conflict commences. Make the smart decision and walk out the door before you need to test your ability in an environment thick with pool cues and balls, glasses, chairs, table corners, ashtrays and of course, concealed weapons.

I’ve got a buddy I went to School with, grew up with, great friends still to this day. He is by far the most dangerous man in any room. Navy Seal (Ret), BJJ black belt, I’m not sure what degree, trained with the Gracies. Was also a personal body guard for our governor for 6 yrs. I wrestled in HS and college and some BJJ but when I rolled with this guy, he’d put you to sleep with out you even knowing it.... until you were asleep. Nicest guy you’ll ever meet until he needs to be otherwise.

Lol, the physical twisting or lopsidedness is so true, I wrestled in high school and studied fighting for years. When I got to Massage school one of my teachers in posture class listed out all the physical changes that my fighting stance has made in my body. Shoulders, hips, feet. After they finished examining me I showed them my wrestling stance and they just laughed about it. It was uncanny

Never have your hands down when someone is being aggressive towards you. There's various defensive postures you can take which don't look like you're egging the guy on to attack you but which will offer some protection if he does. My favourite would probably be the left arm cupping my right elbow and my right hand on my chin as I'm stood with weaker foot forward as I would if I were in boxing class. That way you can safely keep everything tucked and tight and you aren't stood there in a combative position whilst trying to desculate the situation.
The gentleman in the video will know much more about this topic though than myself so listen to him lol.

In the full video it happens within seconds and the guy in the tie feints towards Schilling. Schilling set this guy up. He was super disrespectful and shoved the guy to the side from behind. Tie guy said something and Schilling was on him, right in his personal space. At this point the tie guy has been treated rudely and isn't thinking about keeping his hands up and trying to calm the situation. He's been tricked into a losing situation where he could have died or suffered serious brain damage. Schilling is a total piece of shit.

I don't know, but my guess is that a trained fighter fights for a prize. He's not gonna run the risk of killing someone in a pub, or bar fight and if it comes out in court that he in fact is trained, he could be facing a lot of time in prison. My guess is that he'd have common sense enough to avoid a bar, or street confrontation for fear of this consequence.

    • @bluehornet197
      @bluehornet197 3 года назад

I don't mean to sound rude ir condescending but your guess is wrong while there are many fighters who would avoid a fight especially at a bar there are many fighters especially trained and pro fighters e.g Connor Mcgregor who start fights at bars and punch on with much less skilled fighters

  • @JLewis1979

Personally, if I'm having a few drinks, the last thing I want to do is fight. Many people are different though. I have some training, but nothing really notable, just enough that I know that the best fight is the one you walk away from in a public setting. Self defense is fine, but in my opinion, even if the guy deserved it, Joe Schilling should have just had a laugh and walked off. What if the guy had busted his skull on the tile when he hit the ground after being KO'd? What if he had friends with knives or guns (I live in the US, so guns are common.)? It's just not worth it.
The truth is you really never know who the trained fighter is until after someone gets hurt. Some guys with no training fit the description, but would get their ass handed to them. Some guys that sit quietly and don't react much to provocation yet may be deadly, but don't feel the need to attack until attacked.
The best fight is the one you can avoid. Egos get people hurt on a daily basis.

I'm a boxer that doesn't have cauliflower ears, a mashed nose or overly calloused knuckles (we wrap our hands and use gloves). A true fighter keeps his distance from the aggressor and calmly waits for the storm to arrive and prepares to act quickly if he/she deems it necessary.
