The movie is not only about performing songs, otherwise yes, they could have casted Hank's grandson, and be done with it! The ultimate result should have ithey done so, would have been a simple biography, à la History Channel , no depth, no emotions! The Film is about Hank's emotional pain. His self-destructive instinct, his addiction(s), his unfaithfulness, his marriage, his wife's ambition, and how the women in his life, were the driving force and inspirational muse, to write his songs, among other things. The dichotomy between the charisma he exuded on the outside, on stage, and the inner anguish he was going through every single day of his very short life! . Mr. Tom Hiddleston delivered through his acting, a GEM! I have noticed that most those who did not like the movie, talked about getting an "American" for the role! Or his grandson for that matter. If there was any other to fill the boots of an Icon, before Mr. Hiddleston, I am sure the producers would have picked that actor instead! I am simply stating my opinion, I know few disagree, so we agree to disagree. Finally saw the movie. It's pretty good overall. I definitely enjoyed it. Tom's performance as Hank was outstanding. No Tom doesn't sound exactly like Hank, but he and the songs sounds really good. In fact the whole soundtrack was great and really made the movie very enjoyable even though it's a sad story.
