      @DEMS He meant that governments don't think twice when it comes to spend too much in whatever because that money is not theirs, the money is in fact yours, and from your parents and siblings when you pay taxes. The important thing here is that people usually try to make the best decision to make the most profit with the money when they earned that money and it costed them a lot of hard work. You see that doesn't happen with any public officer in the world as they never pay from their own pocket.

    • @scinary7052

      @@raphoperleche5401 In context it's more to say the government needs the satellites, so they'll pay whoever is launching satellites however much they ask for. it's not about money it's about the satellite.

    • @raphoperleche5401
      @raphoperleche5401 4 года назад +23

      @@scinary7052 It's totally truth. Yet, an important point here is that it took not too long before Elon and his company could find a way to cut costs when governments didn't. I don't believe it's entirely their fault as a government's goal is to spend and a private company's is to stay profitable. You see, when the private sector's got innovation as a guideline it can really make everyone's life better, even for the public sector :)

      TBH, for a tiny cubesat, the price is pretty achievable. If instead of buying a car you wish to send that money into space... It's pretty doable. But you'd need a bunch of people willing to send them, since SpaceX only does 200 kg or more, for 1 million dollars. So you'd have to split it up between a bunch of space nerds and a bunch of cubesats in one payload.

I've talked to my local federal representative 5 times in the last 7 years, the last time to tell her I'm not voting for her in the last federal election with a list of unkept promises and poor behaviour of why. imagine if even a 1000 other people did the same. What I heard from family and friends was "oh we have to vote for her, what if the other guy gets in .. it will be so much worse". uneducated and unwilling to participate in the process is why politics is so fricked these days.. think about it.

Those should boost average lifespans by about 10-20 percent, and given that the whole medical field of aging is so interconnected, it is likely that there will be a quick succession of new technologies that come out after the first one, say within 5 to ten years, each one increasing lifespan by at least 10 percent, by the time all of these come out Elon might very well be in his 80's, but by then the life expectancy for him will probably be about 250 or so. Now I made a lot of assumptions here, but I do have facts to back them up. If you are interested, look into the SENS research foundation, they have identified 7 main causes of aging and solutions for all of them that we can achieve with current or near current technology, and are actually working on solving these issues, it's a great time to be alive.

There is info here that is outdated by as much as 5 years (Battery cost), there are straight lies (50 Million Clients = 30B a year, this is insulting) and a bunch of misleading statements (about all car companies, including Japanese and korean, build the US version in US Mexico and Canada).
      Basically even when he got correct a number, it was incorrect in his context. The value of that specific satelite was correct, but instead of talking about the rockets weight he talked all that section of the video as if the cost was in measure of launch. There is no information when you compare the value of launch, what are you launching, what is the payload capacity of your rocket??? And by the way the value of launch will still increase, because they are making a larger rocket, but the value per payload (Kg) is decreasing and that is what Elon is trying to get down.
      Well at least gets people interested.

    Vertical integration is a good way to cut costs, to a point. A company has to remember what their core competency is, and what the economics of scale are. If other companies are better at making batteries, or rocket engines or other highly specialized components, it often makes sense to buy those from someone else. The same is true if you are using a relatively small number of the components compared the the total industrial demand.
    The real reason Musk is able to make rockets at a much lower cost is that he is being motivated by the free market and real competition. Historically, when the NASA, the government, was the only one making rockets, they had zero incentive to make sure they were inexpensive. Likewise, the government contractors have zero incentive to cut costs or be efficient in their operations. It's amazing what can happen when the profit motive is allowed to work.

      The idea that you want to personally contribute to a company's financials already exists, and it's called the stock market. You can buy a literal portion of the company Google. They get your money, and you get some returns based on their performance. It makes sense that you wanna contribute, but when the big financial phalluses get swinging, they'll want both returns on their investment and control over what their money is used for. So he has to avoid it to keep his personal vision at SpaceX.

      Yes. He invented the reusable rocket, and the tunnel, the electric car and the electric train. He is a genius.
      You're an idiot. All of those things existed before elon musk was born.

    The process of SpaceX and Tesla producing parts internally is called "vertical integration" - sort of like a produce stand growing its own crops. It is more efficient for Tesla in the long run to make the investment in the manufacturing equipment vs buying at a higher premium

    • @David-kd4qr
      @David-kd4qr 6 лет назад

      But it does open you up to anti-trust legislation later on. Vertical integration on that scale is allowed today but companies that used to own their whole from Mine to Manufacturing to Sales were broken up.

      American aerospace companies also followed this practise back in the 1970s , i heard. They made almost every component of commercial airlines in house. Now, they sub contract most of the parts and only perform the final assembly in their factories, as it is cheaper. How is this not the case for tesla?

    The 400M USD per ULA launch is only corrent for the Delta IV heavy, a much more capable rocket than F9. Regular Atlas launches are in the range of 100-200M USD.
