"the fourth dimension is time" did in fact come from Einstein's theory of relativity, but only because he used a fourth dimension as the curvature of spacetime. you know those 3d renderings with the 2d plane that has the gravity wells around stars? well that's representing the curvature of spacetime in 3d instead of 4d. its like seeing one of those diagrams and concluding that the 3rd dimension is time. 4d just means that there is a fourth number that can be used to represent positions. XYZW. you can move left, right, up, down, forward, back, ana, and kata. its literally just another spacial dimension you don't have to start making stuff up. while a lot of these things like time and parallel universes are, and could be real, it does not mean it is a dimension just as a cat or a tree is not a dimension.

I searched a lot to find a video that shows how audio might work in the 4th dimension in 3D perspective (like for example the in the miner 4D game.) But these people made it impossible to find if there is.

summary dimensions 0th dimension (positions) - theoretical points in space that exist only for positions and don't actually represent any unit of measurement besides to help pinpoint other higher dimensions. 1st dimension (length) - imagine a tightrope, and you can walk back and forth on it. that's it. 2nd dimension (width) - the tightrope expands into a sidewalk and you can move sideways on it. 3rd dimension (depth) - imagine the sidewalk you can see how far and wide a 2d frame is away from you. that's the 3rd dimension. hence depth perception. 4th dimension (time) - Think of a lazy river that continuously pushes you forward further through the 4th dimension. You cant go backwards but you can slow down or maybe even stop. It pushes you into a different state of the 3rd dimension. Imagine one state as like a frame in a video, and time is the play button. You can press the speed button to slow it down but you cant directly stop it. 5th dimension (probabilities) - Think of you, in that lazy river. But you can see across you another lazy river with you in there too doing something else. 6th dimension (probabilities and time) - Think of that same lazy river parallel analogy, but you can now see the full extent of the lazy river, with an infinite set of yous doing things. 7th dimension (alternative realities) - Now look on a high up tower, you see one water park with those infinite lazy rivers, go to another water park with a different lazy river, maybe the water is red, maybe the tiles are green, who knows. The key note is that they started off different with different sets of rules, different pool architecture. different ultimate outcomes. 8th dimension (alternative realities and time) - Now think of those separate water parks and add walkways attaching each pool. Its so chaotic i cant simplify it. 9th dimension (Pataphysicality) - Go even higher, leave that city containing those water parks. Think you're in the 9th dimension. Nah. You're still in the 8th dimension, just a set higher. The 9th dimension refers to the realm above the 8th dimension that we physically cannot explain. 10th dimension (Essence) - You're looking at the very fabric of reality. The very concept of going up a higher dimension. 11th dimension (Functional omnipresence) - It assists to explain string theory and how the universe is held together with branes, supergravity and such. The 11th dimension is kind of going backwards, reverting to the 2nd smallest only being bested by the 0th dimension, which represents positions. Smaller than protons, electrons, quarks and down to the string theory.
The forth dimension is not accurate because time is considered to be PART of our perception NOT a dimension itself, and yes, some could argue that Time is a dimension because we move through it, but remember we are talking about physical dimensions and here is where the XYZ coordinates exist and in the case of a higher dimension existing there should be added a new line perpendicular to the others, thus creating a new physical place in the position of the object. This can be imagined and be understandable for us by the Teseract (Hypercube) ilustrations where cube seem to be inside one another but in reality it's just moving through our space.

While I agree using time as a analogy is helpful when discussing the 4th dimension, it is not "the 4th dimension" itself, or at least it doesn't have to strictly be that way. We currently occupy 3 spacial dimensions and 1 temporal dimension. So you could say we experience 4 dimensions in our daily lives. However, it is also possible to have 2 spacial dimensions and 2 temporal dimensions, or 4 spacial dimensions and no temporal dimension! As you move into higher dimensions you seem to be picking and choosing arbitrarily whether you want to add spacial or temporal dimensions and then portraying it as the one single way that it is, or the way things are. And you did not even bother to distinguish between spacial and temporal dimensions to begin with. This will probably leave many people confused, or at the very least thinking they understand something that they really don't. All you need to know to understand higher (spacial) dimensions is the idea of perpendicularity. If you can draw an axis that is perpendicular to all other axes, then you have added an additional spacial dimension. This means that you will be able to move freely in that one axis without affecting your position in the other axes. The same way that if I move only up and down, then I stay in the same spot on a map, I am simply changing elevation higher or lower. Beings occupying 2D space cannot imagine infinite amount of space above at below an area. In the same way we cannot imagine that for every location in our 3d space, there could be an infinite amount of space shifting in the 4th dimension. The reason we consider time as a dimension is because you can alter the parameter of time without affecting position, this independence allows us to think in higher dimensions. One example of this is if I park my car on a street at a certain time, my car is the only one there. But if I move it and another cars comes and parks there, you could say they are occupying the same physical location in space, but at different times. The only problem with that is that we are not truly 4th dimensional creatures because our ability to manipulate the 4th dimension is heavily restricted. Times passes at a constant rate and we have no control over it (assuming we are in the same reference frame, however I need not explain it again since relativity was already covered in the video) but the point is, I cannot just decide to position myself in time at least not to the same degree that I can freely position my body in space. There is nothing I can do to move backwards time. We could just be occupying a universe which is a very specific special case where time moves like this.

@kingki1953 not so hard to think about, actually I've seen some circles with static figures in different positions, and when rotate it, it seems a fluid animation. That's how you would see us from a higher dimension, like static silhouettes.
Man, I was kinda hoping for the actual spatial dimensions and maybe a mention of time acting as a dimension; alternate and parallel universes have almost nothing to do with dimensions.

Time does actually function as a fourth dimension... Neil deGrasse Tyson even explained it, and really well. Just accept it. The other dimensions are somewhat questionable though, but not fully. Trying to understand them is like a theoretical 1 dimensional creature trying to understand our world.
parallel universes are kind of similar to the multiverse theory. for example: if you were to throw a lego brick across your room, a universe would open up where you didnt throw the lego brick. this can also lead to paradoxes, too. if the multiverse theory is true, then there exists a universe where it doesnt.

So there can't be a parralel universe where parralel universes or the multiverse is inexistent. That would be a logical contradiction or logically impossible.

@@skullcat324 I mean Time is just something else. We don't know why it's a temporal dimension added to the spacial ones. It could be that it actually is a spatial dimension but we perceive it as change. What I meant is that Spacial dimensions are different than these things. For example a tesseract (4D cube) has a lot more sides than 6. There are hyperdirections and things can rotate in ways that we cannot imagine, and we perceive it as the shape itself shifting in bizarre ways. Rotating it on a hyperaxis changes the shape in the 3D projection. In the real world too There may not be 4 Dimensional objects, but there are definitely things that behave as if they were rotating in 4 dimensions. For example quaternions often describe quantum mechanical phenomena. Electron spin too is just absurd to imagine. But definitely one real mathematical tool The things shown in the video are just theories and speculations that kinda have nothing to do with mathematical dimensions.

everyone talks about parallel universes where different choices were made, but what about random chance? surely there's parallel universes where different outcomes happened by random chance, perhaps there's one where some very unlikely occurence (like falling through the ground because none of the molecules in your body collided with the ones in the ground) happens regularly, or maybe one where evolution happened so differently that Earth is unrecognizable
The problem with there being infinite possibilities is that there’s is gonna be some that can’t happen for example, a professor is the best at basic math in the entire world, he can do 36 digit*36 digit instantly but when a random kid asks him what’s 1+1 he says 74 and it took him 10 minutes to say that after the kid says he’s wrong he tries again and after an hour he says 49392 this time. He isn’t playing or anything and he’s trying his best and 10 seconds later when someone asks him what’s 293940484393939394944993838293934949399329*9394958388282838484484848382939949939494 he instantly says the correct answer. But, quantum physics is truly random for example, if you have a random number generator between 1-10000 you don’t know what number you’ll get so it’s considered random, but if a supercomputer knew the exact code it could probably guess it. But no matter how much the supercomputer knows about quantum physics it will not know what a singular quantum particle will do. The chances of the professor getting the first question wrong and the second question right is considered 0% by our standards and by the supercomputer’s standards too, so quantum physics might have something to do with it since it’s so random that nothing could predict it. The problem with this though is that there’s way more impossible universes than possible universes. The professor could’ve given any number from 1 to infinity and even beyond infinity but only 1 would be the right answer so the chance of there being right answer is 1/infinity which would be too rare if everything worked how it’s supposed to work. Remember, 1/infinity approaches 0 and is not 0 but the chances are still abysmally small. It’s not even just infinity it’s omega*omega because of decimals which is not bigger but just shows that there can be way more variables than just 1-infinity in fact there might be infinity variables so now we’re on to alave nul. But, we can actually go past infinity so there’s actually absolute infinity-1 possibilities which is still equal to omega but that’s still crazy to imagine Even if it’s something as rare as 1/googol answers per question it’s still infinitely times closer to 0 than infinity.So, it might only be up to the 6th dimension where infinite realities are possible. @@FeixMLBIf you define dimension as strictly "spatial" then the time axis wouldn't make sense. For example, traditional 4d objects wouldn't cast a 3d shadow with time as the 4th axis. But I guess it's theoretical and can't be proven right or wrong.

Thats odd, when I clicked on this video I thought it was showing 12 dimensions. Anyway this was pretty neat and interesting. I found this by looking up higher dimensions and such because sometimes I feel like I know whats going on or has happened in alternate and parallel dimensions. Like just before I watched this, I had the feeling that in a parallel I lost the end of my right hand middle finger in an accident that has not happened here!

Easier explanition : A4 Paper is the area, then fold it, it's the 2d then fold it more times to create more dimensions. Time is always occurring, in any dimension. Ya but to ask what a dimension is, Is to ask why points exist and why they form orthogonal macroscopic dimensions, which is to ask how information can objectively itself exist which presents itself as the age old paradox of how can information exist ? Macroscopic dimensions and extra dimensional manifolds exist, because they are defined by the external observer and or tellors that define objective spacetime
Many of these aren't even dimensions or are overcomplicated to an obscure amount, while spacial dimensions are pretty much left out. That's just unfair
I've definitely heard from some other scientists that time and the 4th dimension aren't quite the same thing on a fundamental level, but it doesn't really take away from the video. Their point being that the 4th dimension is just another direction of travel, where as time is something a little more fundamental. Though I'm sure scientists that figure out all of these other dimensions might exist knew that much and decided to nix directions of travel after 3 because they aren't really the fun ones to talk about and having a 4+ etc in there didn't look as nice.

fun fact, physical dimensions & Time are separate, time is temporal not corporal. 4th dimension is not time, they still experience a form of differing temporal design or the same. Only reason we still give it that idea is because it would explain a lens to interact with the Inside & outside of 3d objects at the same time if you had complete freedom of it, but not knowing the scope of higher dimensions means we don’t know how they react with it.

I agree with 3D but 4D part is inaccurate, while it is true that 4D represents space-time but in term of spatial dimension, 4D is simply another axis added to space. For instance, R is a set of real number which is 1D. R² is 2D. R³ is 3D and R⁴ is 4D and it does not represent time itself. R⁴ represents 4 axes (width, length, depth and unknown). I also do not agree with universe and stuff being "dimensions". A universe consists of dimensions, not the other way around.

"the fourth dimension is time" did in fact come from Einstein's theory of relativity, but only because he used a fourth dimension as the curvature of spacetime. you know those 3d renderings with the 2d plane that has the gravity wells around stars? well that's representing the curvature of spacetime in 3d instead of 4d. its like seeing one of those diagrams and concluding that the 3rd dimension is time.

0th dimension (positions) - theoretical points in space that exist only for positions and don't actually represent any unit of measurement besides to help pinpoint other higher dimensions.
1st dimension (length) - imagine a tightrope, and you can walk back and forth on it. that's it.
2nd dimension (width) - the tightrope expands into a sidewalk and you can move sideways on it.
3rd dimension (depth) - imagine the sidewalk you can see how far and wide a 2d frame is away from you. that's the 3rd dimension. hence depth perception.

The forth dimension is not accurate because time is considered to be PART of our perception NOT a dimension itself, and yes, some could argue that Time is a dimension because we move through it, but remember we are talking about physical dimensions and here is where the XYZ coordinates exist and in the case of a higher dimension existing there should be added a new line perpendicular to the others, thus creating a new physical place in the position of the object. This can be imagined and be understandable for us by the Teseract (Hypercube) ilustrations where cube seem to be inside one another but in reality it's just moving through our space.

While I agree using time as a analogy is helpful when discussing the 4th dimension, it is not "the 4th dimension" itself, or at least it doesn't have to strictly be that way.
We currently occupy 3 spacial dimensions and 1 temporal dimension. So you could say we experience 4 dimensions in our daily lives.
However, it is also possible to have 2 spacial dimensions and 2 temporal dimensions, or 4 spacial dimensions and no temporal dimension!
As you move into higher dimensions you seem to be picking and choosing arbitrarily whether you want to add spacial or temporal dimensions and then portraying it as the one single way that it is, or the way things are.
And you did not even bother to distinguish between spacial and temporal dimensions to begin with. This will probably leave many people confused, or at the very least thinking they understand something that they really don't.
All you need to know to understand higher (spacial) dimensions is the idea of perpendicularity. If you can draw an axis that is perpendicular to all other axes, then you have added an additional spacial dimension.
This means that you will be able to move freely in that one axis without affecting your position in the other axes.
The same way that if I move only up and down, then I stay in the same spot on a map, I am simply changing elevation higher or lower.
Beings occupying 2D space cannot imagine infinite amount of space above at below an area. In the same way we cannot imagine that for every location in our 3d space, there could be an infinite amount of space shifting in the 4th dimension.
The reason we consider time as a dimension is because you can alter the parameter of time without affecting position, this independence allows us to think in higher dimensions.
One example of this is if I park my car on a street at a certain time, my car is the only one there. But if I move it and another cars comes and parks there, you could say they are occupying the same physical location in space, but at different times.
The only problem with that is that we are not truly 4th dimensional creatures because our ability to manipulate the 4th dimension is heavily restricted. Times passes at a constant rate and we have no control over it (assuming we are in the same reference frame, however I need not explain it again since relativity was already covered in the video) but the point is, I cannot just decide to position myself in time at least not to the same degree that I can freely position my body in space. There is nothing I can do to move backwards time.
We could just be occupying a universe which is a very specific special case where time moves like this.

Mathematically yes we can describe these objects, even with more dimensions but visualizing them and conceptuallizing them.

everyone talks about parallel universes where different choices were made, but what about random chance? surely there's parallel universes where different outcomes happened by random chance, perhaps there's one where some very unlikely occurence (like falling through the ground because none of the molecules in your body collided with the ones in the ground) happens regularly, or maybe one where evolution happened so differently that Earth is unrecognizable
The problem with there being infinite possibilities is that there’s is gonna be some that can’t happen for example, a professor is the best at basic math in the entire world, he can do 36 digit*36 digit instantly but when a random kid asks him what’s 1+1 he says 74 and it took him 10 minutes to say that after the kid says he’s wrong he tries again and after an hour he says 49392 this time. He isn’t playing or anything and he’s trying his best and 10 seconds later when someone asks him what’s 293940484393939394944993838293934949399329*9394958388282838484484848382939949939494 he instantly says the correct answer. But, quantum physics is truly random for example, if you have a random number generator between 1-10000 you don’t know what number you’ll get so it’s considered random, but if a supercomputer knew the exact code it could probably guess it. But no matter how much the supercomputer knows about quantum physics it will not know what a singular quantum particle will do. The chances of the professor getting the first question wrong and the second question right is considered 0% by our standards and by the supercomputer’s standards too, so quantum physics might have something to do with it since it’s so random that nothing could predict it. The problem with this though is that there’s way more impossible universes than possible universes. The professor could’ve given any number from 1 to infinity and even beyond infinity but only 1 would be the right answer so the chance of there being right answer is 1/infinity which would be too rare if everything worked how it’s supposed to work. Remember, 1/infinity approaches 0 and is not 0 but the chances are still abysmally small. It’s not even just infinity it’s omega*omega because of decimals which is not bigger but just shows that there can be way more variables than just 1-infinity in fact there might be infinity variables so now we’re on to alave nul. But, we can actually go past infinity so there’s actually absolute infinity-1 possibilities which is still equal to omega but that’s still crazy to imagine Even if it’s something as rare as 1/googol answers per question it’s still infinitely times closer to 0 than infinity.So, it might only be up to the 6th dimension where infinite realities are possible.

@@FeixMLBIf you define dimension as strictly "spatial" then the time axis wouldn't make sense. For example, traditional 4d objects wouldn't cast a 3d shadow with time as the 4th axis. But I guess it's theoretical and can't be proven right or wrong.

Based on your explanation, I wouldn't consider the 6th dimension a separate dimension. Just another set of paths. It's like adding a diagonal to a square. The square is still 2 dimensional. It just has a new path.

3 - our world

5 - possible variants of 3-rd dimension

7 - different stories like reading completely different book after reading another one
8 - possible variants of 3-rd dimension but they are able to communicate with each other
9 - like a number pi its infinite and you can't ever write a number that isn't on the pi
10 - you can see the possible variants of paralel and alternate universes and being able to see what will happen happened or happening at the same time
11 - our imagination may actually be real somewhere and every theory is true but with more complex rules

Thats odd, when I clicked on this video I thought it was showing 12 dimensions.
Anyway this was pretty neat and interesting. I found this by looking up higher dimensions and such because sometimes I feel like I know whats going on or has happened in alternate and parallel dimensions. Like just before I watched this, I had the feeling that in a parallel I lost the end of my right hand middle finger in an accident that has not happened here!

I'll add that a zero D object is hypothetically possible. It is simply infinitely small. 0D is not the same as nonexistence.
Many of these aren't even dimensions or are overcomplicated to an obscure amount, while spacial dimensions are pretty much left out. That's just unfair
I've definitely heard from some other scientists that time and the 4th dimension aren't quite the same thing on a fundamental level, but it doesn't really take away from the video. Their point being that the 4th dimension is just another direction of travel, where as time is something a little more fundamental. Though I'm sure scientists that figure out all of these other dimensions might exist knew that much and decided to nix directions of travel after 3 because they aren't really the fun ones to talk about and having a 4+ etc in there didn't look as nice.

fun fact, physical dimensions & Time are separate, time is temporal not corporal.
4th dimension is not time, they still experience a form of differing temporal design or the same. Only reason we still give it that idea is because it would explain a lens to interact with the Inside & outside of 3d objects at the same time if you had complete freedom of it, but not knowing the scope of higher dimensions means we don’t know how they react with it.

I agree with 3D but 4D part is inaccurate, while it is true that 4D represents space-time but in term of spatial dimension, 4D is simply another axis added to space.
For instance, R is a set of real number which is 1D. R² is 2D. R³ is 3D and R⁴ is 4D and it does not represent time itself. R⁴ represents 4 axes (width, length, depth and unknown).
I also do not agree with universe and stuff being "dimensions". A universe consists of dimensions, not the other way around.
The 11th it's the platform of all the 10th existences.
Theirs higher dimensions but it's unknown to us because we don't have access to confirm it.

1 - 3 is like looking at a picture, you can see the things within it but they are set
4 is like watching a video, it can be moved back and forth but is still held inside
5 is like looking at two photos that came from the same place at the same time, but they each have a different appearance, every photo after the first looks slightly different from the one it came from
6 is like watching every possible photo like they are videos, seperated only by sequence of events and they all do lead back to one point
7 is like looking at multiple different points, they are all separate from eachother in every way because they could not possibly be the same
8 is looking at every video that comes from every photo
9 is like there is not photo. There is a presence, but that presence isn't accessible by any rules you'd know, the rules are written in a separate rulebook
10 is beyond the rules, you can see the rules, but they don't hold you anymore
