This is a GREAT film body! They are inexpensive, built like tanks, and shoot all the way up to ISO 6400. I have two or three of them, all purchased used. I even use a Tamron 10-24mm that was made for crop sensors, and it works fine. I bought a second one when my first 650 started missing shots. Turns out there is a problem with the shutter bumping into a deteriorating foam seal, and it then transfers sticky goo onto the shutter blades. Sticks them shut. It can be cleaned off the shutters with lighter fluid and q-tips. But this is not a permanent or guaranteed fix. The shutter can be replaced and the foam seal removed. My current 650 body is working flawlessly so far and, despite the shutter issue, I would recommend this model to anyone wanting to shoot film using their EF lenses! Thanks for sharing this video.
Man, I got this camera a year ago for 12eur including new battery and delivery and I love it. I'm a canon digital shooter and I felt right at home the second I picked this up. You just can't go wrong with something like this. As you said, maybe the size is a con, but personally I like the feel of it in the hand. Great review, sub'd.
I am an EF glass collector too. I first got a Canon XTI DSLR to learn manual photography. Then I got a Canon SL2 because it is so easy to use. Then I got bit by the old film bug. I ended up getting a Canon Rebel G. I put a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II lens on it. I then re-learned color c41 developing (Rollei liquid) and I have an Epson V600 scanner. The Rebel G is perfect for me. I can put it on my tripod and shoot in AV mode. The auto wind rolls back into the cannister. I have a film retriever and a lab box. My friends kept motivating me. I was challenged to be a better photographer. I drew the line at scanning. It is cheaper to have Amazon to print photos then to print my own. By the time I sort out a few good pix to print I only spend a few dollars.
I have the Canon EOS 500n (rebel g) it came with a 28-80mm ultrasonic zoom lens, all absolutely mint like new condition, I paid just £20 for it. It does everything I need my film camera to do. I'll definitely be adding a nifty 50mm lens to this camera.
I had a 650 years ago and I really liked it, I learned so much with it. The 50mm is awesome, I learned depth of field with it. I also learned ( unfortunately) that you never leave your camera in the car in the sun, the lubricants got hot and leaked into the shutter! I was missing shots because of the shutter sticking. I ended up going to Nikon exclusively for many years. But now I’m back with Canon and Nikon. 18 cameras and counting,,,
Another one to think about if you'd rather use FD lenses is the T90. I got one for £26 and love it. Spot metering is really well implemented. It has that 1980's vibe. I'm thinking of a 650 as a companion, so I can play with ES lenses. I was shooting film back in the 1980s and all these things were totally out of my reach. Now I can basically have the pro gear I dreamed of as a teenager!
@@ribsy I bought a 50mm with it let's see what portraits I can get with it when it comes next month! Thank you, I will subscribe and look forward to your videos
I’ve only just caught your video after I was searching for s review of the 650. I’ve been using digital for over 2 years now but I’m keen to try film, to have that proper authentic experience. Thanks for your review of the quality of this camera, I don’t have a great deal of knowledge on film cameras but looking forward to start. 👌🏻
Great review, I have an M50 but use a few native lenses and adapted EF lenses so I thought this will be a good start at film especially using the nifty 50.
For me it was the Elan II (EOS 50) regarding auto focus Canons. To this day it still feels in the hand, looks great, and has great features. They have some known reliability issues, but often can be overcome. Highly recommended. The Elan 7 is a little better but doesn't look as nice. They both are actually core players in my quest to still pursue some EF glass while I also using a 6D and 50D (both also great).
I hate you man, I have already a canon A1 but you are telling me now that I can use my other canon lenses on this camera so that means more cash is to be spent out of my pocket. Nice videos. One more subscriber.
hahah sorry man. at least i can assure you that the 90s canon film SLRs are VERY cheap. there are quite a few varieties too - make sure to shop around!
I just bought the canon 620 and 50 mm f/1.8 STM EF lens not realizing that my EF-L lens could work on this camera (Google wasn’t helpful there) My question is- can I basically just shoot in aperture priority and trust results will be good? Regardless of the film I put in there? I’m new to film and reading about how people adjust their exposure for different types of film. I currently have Kodak Ektar 100 35 mm film in my 620 but ordered a bunch of rolls of Lomo color negative ISO 400. I understand Lomo will preform better in low light due to higher ISO. Another dumb question is if I can change the lens after putting film in the camera as long as camera is in L mode? Finally- what do I need to know about bringing a film camera through TSA security as carry on. I’ve googled but a bit confused. If I have unprocessed film inside my 620 , that needs to be hand searched right? I can’t put it through the x ray or ct scan? I have already bought an X ray protector case for film from Amazon but I’m wondering about film already in camera. Thanks so much for posting this great video!!
Photo @5:24 is unreal. China? I'm looking at an older EOS body for a strange reason: mounting Pre AI nikon lenses to shoot them in aperture auto with great metering. Haha Hows the manual focus on this / the focus screen? Recommend this or another eos body? Thanks!
Wifey just picked one of these up for me, and looks like Baby Ribs is here to show me how to set it up :)
LOL baby ribs

Yea the elan is a great one too!
A local second hand shop has this camera with a 35-105 lens for 1,000 yen (about $10). No idea if it work, but thinking I may just give it try.
def give it a try. they are so resilient, you'd be surprised!
Camera is old but your photoes are great!~~♡❤🎉
haha thanks
What was the "smaller version" of the EOS 650 that you said you upgraded to? Great video ✌
Eos 300v

i can't vouch for ef-s lenses, because of the flange distance. but yes, aperture priority will do you very well assuming the meter on the camera works
