Greetings from Cape Town. I was first introduces to these kombis through the Microbus and Caravelle with the 2.3 and 2.6 litre Audi 5 cylinder engines in the backand I was first introduced to the diesel models through the Caravelle T4 2.5tdi which we currently have. If I happen to get hold of a Caravelle T5 I would go for the model with the 2 litre BiTDI engine with the manual transmition and 2-wheel drive.
The 5 cylinder engines gave the old ones a lot of character. The DSG will cost you in repairs as a second hand proposition. A more substantial engine would go a long way to improving it. Great review.

It is a very useful van. 👍 I have t4 of 5 cylinders too. I love it because of its comfort and durability.
