  • This is the second part of our trip where my friend and I buckled up for the long drive to Montana to go backpacking and fly fishing. It had been quite some time since I last visited this area. We ended up having a great time while enjoying awesome scenery and catching some fat fish

    Great video again, every trip is an adventure! You’re. A hiking machine. Each of my trips I swear to myself I’ll shave ounces. Finally dumped the pump and tried sawyer straw (2oz) for some years now. Also got a ULA pack (Logan UT biz). I’m in the 20-22lb pack range w two rods. Makes my 40+ mile trips doable for my 40+ yr joints!

      @@mikenelson3338 Yep! Admittedly it cost some money for some ultra light gear. A recent trip was 5 days fishing the top of Uinta river basin and started at 22lbs. Big Agnes tent, ULA pack, Enlightened Equipment quilt, Thermarest pad.

    Two questions. 1. why don't you eat some of trout you caught? You could make good catchNcook videos. 2. Is this Big Sky area? (or where would it be...
    Oh and thanks for NOT ADDING MUSIC to your amazing fishing videos.

    I also wondered how you stow your net for use while fishing. Is on your backpack somewhere? Do you tether it? Use a holster?

    • @TroutHowler
      @TroutHowler  3 года назад +2

      I use a magnet connector that I hang from carabiner. I hook it to either a backpack or my camera harness. The net handle hangs about waist level

    Was the floating mega scud/black and red leech a dry dropper rig? Or two nymph rig?

    • @TroutHowler
      @TroutHowler  3 года назад +2

      It's more or less the popcorn beetle set up they use on Pyramid lake. I use 25ft fast sink tip line with a weighted leech or minnow pattern on the bottom----in this case a leech. Three ft up from the leech I used a six inch tag tied to the floating scud. After letting it sink I do long fast strips with a 2 second pause between strips. During the pause the scud floats up. You often get takes during the pause

      TroutHowler what does your typical leader look like?

    • @TroutHowler
      @TroutHowler  3 года назад +3

      @@caseysayre4250 I actually go mega cheap when it comes to leaders. I buy cheap 3x or 2x off brand leaders on amazon. Then I just clip off the end and add either Fireline or some flourocarbon as tippet. You can find a pack of six for around $8. I use a 3x leader 90% percent of the time. If i'm using tiny patterns I just use 4 lb test fireline as tippet. It's roughly the same diameter as 1 lb test mono
