The Jay Garrick/Judy Garrick series was great. I hope the new JSA series is better than the current boring and late book. And will Alan Scott be old school and dig the chicks again?
@@PrivateCitizen84 I'd try All Star Comics #58 from January- February 1976 and the issues after it. Gerry Conway, and later on, Paul Levitz wrote the team in more of a Marvel Comics style. Team members having personal problems and bicker with each other. It was a mixture of the older characters and younger on the original Earth 2. Those stories may be in trade paperback. Also ,The Last Days Of The JSA Special from Post Crisis 1986 is a great double sized issue. And if you want the WW 2 JSA I'd try to find some issues of All Star Squadron from the early to mid 80's. Issue #36-37 have The All Stars taking on the Marvel Family. Issue #36 kick started my love of the DC Golden age heroes. And it has a battle between Shazam and the Earth 2 Superman.
Hopefully DC won’t drop plot points and will also give the new Justice League heroes a chance to really shine. The JSA also has to show they are just more than old fogies. As for Alan Scott being gay, I also want to see him struggling with his own bigoted views. After just haven attraction to the same gender does not make one a non racist or sexist.

@PrivateCitizen84 Honestly, there are not a lot of great new gods runs because they don't sell very well. For the most part, their cast has become guest stars in other titles.
@PrivateCitizen84 but you could try Darkseid war by Geoff John's, Man of steel vol 1 by John Byrne or Tom King's Mister Miracle. The last one is more of a stand-alone outside continuity story. And the Legion of superheroes: the great darkness saga.
when I saw that justice league unlimited was at the back (I'm excited for it because I like the team line up black lightning and captain atom have not been featured in a lot of stuff lately and I'm glad they're getting some top billing for once plus star sapphire is a neat addition) I was confused but then I saw that Mark Waid was writing and I was like "oh yup that's why".
Well. John Stewart finally got his God tier upgrade as the Emerald Knight, kind of like Kyle Rayner becoming the white Lantern. Also seems like the sorrow lantern is basically one of the other under spectrum lights like Ultraviolet was.
Jeff Lemire writing the JSA is great news. It is the only piece of good news from DC this year. I must admit Jeff was the last person I expected to take over JS but I am not complaining

I actually prefer Kyle. Hal Jordan in the 70's and a good chunk of the 80's was a bore. And certainly not deserving of the label "The greatest Green Lantern". I still find him to be lackluster in many aspects. And I respect Liberal Arts. Far superior to cave drawings or rudimentary doodles.

And Kyle being the first Green Lantern I read I was also sulking that he'd been pushed sideways for this. Added to which, the first ten issues felt like I was reading Flash. But with a power ring. The writing was too similar. However, I am really enjoying the Jeremy Adams. I think there's a lot of potential in Hal, if you do him as 'hot mess' Hal as Sasha Wood says.

And in his original series I found his team ups with Green Arrow more enjoyable because of Green Arrow. And even in more modern times I can't connect with his character. Plus I'm old enough to remember Kyle taking over and it was like a fresh start. It's also why I prefer Wally West over Barry Allen. And since Kyle was an artist he could be far more creative with his power ring. He could do a lot more than use his ring for large fist and bubbles. I do like how Guy Gardner has developed as a character since the mid 2000's though.
The JSA news was unexpected but probably the most exciting bit of news for me. Maybe the book will actually be about the JSA and not be a secret Huntress book for no reason.
New Gods! I had no idea they were rebooting that. I love all that Bronze Age Kirby stuff. I have grown to like it more than the 60's classic Kirby. I am loving all this new DC material. You have to give them credit, they are going for it. We all know the influence he had on the Marvel Universe but his impact on the DC Universe is also profound. Jack Kirby is the Pablo Picasso of comic book artists.

I lasted 5 issues of Spurrier on Flash but I’m sure Lemire will smash it Green Lantern I love the Universe and will give this a chance but outwith Batman and Superman everything else I’ll read on Infinite while I’ll go physical on Bats and Supes

I picked up several iconic female characters trying out DC as I heard of the names already. For Marvel beyond X-men I had not heard about any iconic female characters in the normie sphere.
I don't have any interest in this Absolute Universe. It's just the N52 for me all over again,but I'll give a chance to Mark Waid Justice League.I feel that Waid its only one writer able to do something decent with the team in nowadays.
Last year I read through a good chunk of the New Gods collected material. I am hoping the Ram V version will be good.and add to the mythos. I hope we get a good JSA book. I'm confused with the Johns version, myself. I'm not going to bother with the Absolute Universe. I personally don't care. This is probably should have been done with PU52 because that really was the beginning of the end for a lot of long time fan readers.

I’ve never read anything New Gods before, so I’m not sure what to expect. Simultaneously, “Hell in space” sounds horrifying. Seeing V/Cagle going over to it is neat. I assume, though, that New Gods being directly tied to Darkseid means I’d *have* to read this whole Absolute universe stuff?
My opinion is you could probably just read it and be fine. Yes I'm sure if you were reading other books that you'd get a little more out of it but you should be able enjoy it on it's own

I would expect that both titles work on their own as that’s how these serials sell best and the two writers are actual pros. But both titles also have history and some of that history will pop up. The writers will definitely make sure that you don’t have to know all the old books to follow the story, but I would expect some fan service for the long time fans. So you basically will start reading a team book, where the team knows each other for a longer time, don’t expect to start at the beginning of everything. But to stress it again, these books are written with the idea that new readers give it a try, it will not be so difficult to follow and understand the past stuff that pops up.
Hell in space is a reference that the two worlds of the New Gods are split by absolute good and absolute evil, so one is paradise and the other one is a none Christian hell. What I mean with none Christian is that it’s not devils tormenting sinners, it’s just an absolutely evil tyranny ruled by immortal gods that enjoy it.
I guess I plan to support Mark waid's Justice League unlimited. because I hope it is as good as Mark Waide's and Geoge Perez Avenger run in the early 2000. I can not let someon'e political opion keep me from enjoying a book.
Nothing jumps out at me except the New Gods. I’ll give that 5 issue trial. Absolute Batman is trying too hard. There’s NO way a guy that huge can keep a low profile. It would be as if Arnold Schwarzenegger could fight criminals and do films without anyone noticing in an age where cameras are watching everyone.
a story that takes place 40 years ago is brand spanking new in comparison to a Conan story.... Stories of different eras add depth to a universe, and depth is good. You never know what they could attach to it, and while it could be attached to a new/newer story he or someone else makes, maybe it could be connected to an even older event. And if it doesn't attach to anything but is still cool then who cares, because many modern stories don't attach to anything....
I really want to be excited. I've loved DC, for three and a half decades, now. Back issues keep it alive, and I remember the good times, actually looking forward to another book dropping. 2005 was the last time I was actually watching the calendar, waiting for a book to drop, before just recently, with Batman: Off World #5. Everything in between has ranged from dull to infuriating. Unfortunately, I'm guessing this will be more of the same. "Absolute" looks absolute garbage, and many of the people known for flatlining books are still employed. I will probably look in, like I do periodically, but nothing looks /Good/. Just different. A different shade of meh. I just hope none of them are complete garbage and/or DEI clown shows.
What's the issue with Mark Waid? You should do a video on it. I miss the New Gods, so will check that out. Though Immortal Thor's a good book by Ewan, I ain't touching any thing with Mullen's on it, she's worse than Kamala Khan. Why the hell not have Guy or Kyle or both!
He's done videos on his problems with waid before but to give you the short answer mark waid is a horrible person. If you look on RUclips you'll find many videos talking about the things waid has done and said including running people carrier's. He literally said he see the comic book industry burn to the ground then work with anyone that had different political views than him.
I know this is heresy, but I find the New Gods boring. The trouble is, Kirby designed them as a story with a beginning middle and end. So to have had writer after writer come onboard and do their own thing with them has just muddied the pot too much. A restart like this might be what they need. So long as it doesn't run beyond it's natural life.

@@missmeme3946 Any dc property (comic, game, movie, tv show, etc) that uses the name Jessica Cruz would have to pay royalties to EVS. The Green Lantern name falls under Gardner Fox? or whoever created the first Green Lantern under copyright law.
I read 15 volumes of JLA two thirds back to back. It wasn't the most memorable experience. Lots of characters not enough time to focus on any real depth of character. I think knowing the all characters well (which I don't) helps with books like that.
I don't think the JSA should have any Golden-age characters on the team anymore. DC is just milking Alan, Carter and Jay's popularity at this point. How old is Ted now? C'mon. Infinity, Inc. with a few modern roster additions is what I really want; but alas, that carries no name cache like the "JSA". It can still be the Justice Society of America without the founding fathers there, is all I'm saying.
Gotta disagree. Ram V has some quality out there. These Savage Shores, Grafity's Wall, Dawnrunner, The Vigil, Black Mumba. These, at least for my two cents, range from good to great.

Nick Robles did the Tynion year one substack covers, and except for them being super limited, they were not good.

My opinion is you could probably just read it and be fine. Yes I'm sure if you were reading other books that you'd get a little more out of it but you should be able enjoy it on it's own

I would expect that both titles work on their own as that’s how these serials sell best and the two writers are actual pros. But both titles also have history and some of that history will pop up. The writers will definitely make sure that you don’t have to know all the old books to follow the story, but I would expect some fan service for the long time fans. So you basically will start reading a team book, where the team knows each other for a longer time, don’t expect to start at the beginning of everything.
But to stress it again, these books are written with the idea that new readers give it a try, it will not be so difficult to follow and understand the past stuff that pops up.
Hell in space is a reference that the two worlds of the New Gods are split by absolute good and absolute evil, so one is paradise and the other one is a none Christian hell. What I mean with none Christian is that it’s not devils tormenting sinners, it’s just an absolutely evil tyranny ruled by immortal gods that enjoy it.

I guess I plan to support Mark waid's Justice League unlimited. because I hope it is as good as Mark Waide's and Geoge Perez Avenger run in the early 2000. I can not let someon'e political opion keep me from enjoying a book.

Nothing jumps out at me except the New Gods. I’ll give that 5 issue trial. Absolute Batman is trying too hard. There’s NO way a guy that huge can keep a low profile. It would be as if Arnold Schwarzenegger could fight criminals and do films without anyone noticing in an age where cameras are watching everyone.

a story that takes place 40 years ago is brand spanking new in comparison to a Conan story.... Stories of different eras add depth to a universe, and depth is good. You never know what they could attach to it, and while it could be attached to a new/newer story he or someone else makes, maybe it could be connected to an even older event. And if it doesn't attach to anything but is still cool then who cares, because many modern stories don't attach to anything....
I will be getting JSA and probably JLU.

I really want to be excited. I've loved DC, for three and a half decades, now. Back issues keep it alive, and I remember the good times, actually looking forward to another book dropping. 2005 was the last time I was actually watching the calendar, waiting for a book to drop, before just recently, with Batman: Off World #5. Everything in between has ranged from dull to infuriating. Unfortunately, I'm guessing this will be more of the same.
"Absolute" looks absolute garbage, and many of the people known for flatlining books are still employed. I will probably look in, like I do periodically, but nothing looks /Good/. Just different. A different shade of meh. I just hope none of them are complete garbage and/or DEI clown shows.
What's the issue with Mark Waid? You should do a video on it. I miss the New Gods, so will check that out. Though Immortal Thor's a good book by Ewan, I ain't touching any thing with Mullen's on it, she's worse than Kamala Khan. Why the hell not have Guy or Kyle or both!

He's done videos on his problems with waid before but to give you the short answer mark waid is a horrible person. If you look on RUclips you'll find many videos talking about the things waid has done and said including running people carrier's. He literally said he see the comic book industry burn to the ground then work with anyone that had different political views than him.
All in is more of the same from the same tired creators.
I know this is heresy, but I find the New Gods boring. The trouble is, Kirby designed them as a story with a beginning middle and end. So to have had writer after writer come onboard and do their own thing with them has just muddied the pot too much. A restart like this might be what they need. So long as it doesn't run beyond it's natural life.
Hopefully the new JSA series will be better that the current crap fest.

If someone has a problem with the new JSA and JLA books, then you just hate comics because these books are going to be amazing.
I read 15 volumes of JLA two thirds back to back. It wasn't the most memorable experience. Lots of characters not enough time to focus on any real depth of character. I think knowing the all characters well (which I don't) helps with books like that.

Jeff Lemire hasn't written anything worth a damn in a very long time. His recent indie output is garbage. He's average at best, but then again, average is about all modern comics can aspire to.
