Hey @Stylized Station, thank you for great tutorial, I am having a problem. Exported textures look different than what it shows in the substance. Any idea why? Please let me know. Thank you!
@@warkarma Hello, this might be a little too late but did u export this as a pbr material? If its for unity you should export this way. If not you should check on what kind of textures you´ll need
to creat the "moss mask" just use another fill black mask and another generator "world space normals" light generator could also work if u turn ur light the right way. or a mix of the position generator with world normals
Love this! I added a bit of height to one of the brush strokes layers and the edge detect layer and it makes it look even more like paint strokes (closer to oils than the gouache of Studio Ghibli, but I'm going for kinda of a hand painted Little Nightmares feel and the chunky paint looks GREAT!) Thanks for a great tutorial!
Thx man. I just discovered Substance through your channel and I was in extreme need of a way to create textures for my 3D game models. Its such a joy to work with this tool and I thank u for putting out some of your tutorials for free. Considering to buy the 3D artist coloring book. Very cool...
Thank you for giving us this concept for free! That's what i love about the 3D Community, everyone is just so passionated to share theire knowledge with the community to ensure a generation of competend and inspired artists. You showed us the basic concept of the shader and that is totally enough to create awesome art and to figure the rest out by oneselves.
Yup. Don't know why people are crying about it "not being finished". The tutorial here gives you everything you need to know to make the end result if you pay attention.
I was looking for tutorials that'll teach me how to make good game art and I finally found a channel and the best thing is, it is focusing on stylized art! I would love to see how that grass was made though, would love to have a grass like that in my game :D Edit: checking the description does help sometimes... 😅
Great video. Nice workflow for quick application of that art style. Small note: you keep mentioning the material being PBR as to how you can go back and change things later. It’s the fact it’s procedural that allows you to do this. Given your just using the Albedo in an unlit scene this isn’t actually a PBR material as that’s to do with how it’s being rendered.
As far as digital art programs go, it's pretty reasonable. I think it's like $20 a month following a free trial? So you could just wait until you know you have a lot of time to work on it and just use it for one month then cancel.
I don't even do 3d modeling, I don't remember when I subbed, but this has been recommended to me 6 times now, so ig it's time to download blender and learn
Dude thanks so much! I've been following Lucen's progress for a while on Twitter :) I'm researching for the next vintage-anime style tutorial i'm planning, super excited to do more of this stuff.
You seem to say "PBR" when you mean "non-destructive." Doesn't PBR just refer to the fact that the texture will use a specific set of maps to produce the material (i.e. color, normal map, roughness, metallic). PBR has to do with rendering and the maps that go into producing the material that will be rendered, but doesn't seem to imply "non-destructive" in any way.
Amazing, thanks for doing this. Quick question, any plans to do a breakdown of that grass? I really love how it looks. Something tells me that it's geometric planes, it's not using an alpha, is my suspicion correct?
You keep saying PBR... I don't think that means what you think it means. Maybe you meant procedural? -- Either way this is freaking brilliant. Any chance for a blender version?
Wow, damn this looks good! Very impressive 😁 Is this possible even with the first version of substance painter or do I need the latest? Keep up the good job
why do all these 3d art programs have a monthly sub fee? Why cant they just be a one time fee. It kind of feels like they're just trying to rip people off.
Blender is a great free alternative 3D program. For texture painting specifically, Quixel Mixer is free to use and if you avoid using their remade Materials you can sell your work for free too.
i love this video! i’ve wanted the game i’m working on to have a similar art style for quite some time and this helps guide me in that making that possible. what are your thoughts on doing a video about making an art style similar to sifu or absolver? they’re very similar to ghibli imo but have some key differences i think worth pointing out.
I actually found the blur slope by accident when I was messing around with the trial version and trying to figure out why blur didn't properly cross UV seams. Didn't fix my problem, but I was able to make some painterly textures! Still not 100% sure what it has to do with slopes or blurring, but it's basically just a magic brush stroke generator. One thing I didn't figure out was how to make it behave consistently across objects of different scales, since it seems to be tied to UV coordinates, not world coordinates.
@@artonaut.13 No, I just used the trial for a bit to play around with it and haven't touched it since. I'm messing around with Material Maker these days, since it's free and open source.

I completely understand you want to make money, but uploading this without mentioning in the title or even in the video that it's only half the tutorial is pretty dishonest.
If anybody sees this comment do you think that it would be possible to create a material like this in Unity because I don't have Substance Painter becasue from what I've seen it appears to require a subscription and as a 15yr I don't have a debit/credit card and I also don't have the money to afford a subscription so I'm wondering if it would be possible to create something similar in Unity for free because I want to create a beautiful open world for a game I wanna make but I currenty just do not possess the knowledge to act on it.
That could literally be achieved with nodes in blender, much easily. You could also paint the texture for the mouth and details and then blend the procedural with the painted...

Yes, PBR means "Physically Based Rendering" and has nothing to do with it being non-destructive
