Isn't that funny how that works between the Americans and Brits? I'm an American millennial, and I generally prefer British music from the '60s through the '90s to most American stuff. Almost all of my favorite bands were British, namely the Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, Pink Floyd, Blur, and Radiohead. I also love Small Faces/Faces, the Hollies, Cream, Roxy Music, T.Rex, David Bowie, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Suede, the Verve, Catherine Wheel, Chapterhouse, Slowdive, Ride... I could go on for hours, all British. That said, the Beach Boys will continue to stand the test of time as one of the heights of human artistic achievement. Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Wilson... I truly believe Brian Wilson had that kind of impact on music, and people will be talking about him hundreds of years after we're all dead.
No Brian wrote Pet Sounds with Van Dyke Parks. Paul McCartney also was a producer, he produced all his music in the 70s and more, and a few other artists.
George Martin produced the first Beatles Album, Brian Wilson was so shocked by the Beatles that he got depressed then started writing. The Beatles always were fascinated and watching the Beach Boys. Not Bob Dylan, not any American folk singers, not most blues singers. Just the Beach Boys. Not just because Brian Wilson was a genius but because the Beach Boys were doing harmony better and had amazing songs, like In My Room. The best always listeners to the best.
amazing and a part of history. George would have set that studio up with exactly what he knew would be needed for that song. Where was the studio, I would think Abbey Road.
Thank you for your video. Can you arrange it for me and Paul McCartney to sing together? I would really appreciate it. It would be a dream come true for me. I’m 65 years old and I’m a Beatle music fanatic. It’s pretty much all I play.
It is a shame George could not have worked with Brian as well as The Beatles back then ---I know some very tiny changes in a mix or sound can bring enormous life to it ...A small change can be like somebody switched on the lights in a dimly lit room --
He demoed things on the piano, mostly. Sometimes an electric piano or synth in the latter days. He worked in a sandbox, which both was because they were the *Beach* Boys and because he wanted to capture a childlike atmosphere.
NO Kelvin, the lyrics of God Only Knows are 100% Brian Wilsons'...NO OTHER HUMAN. Tony Asher is given credit for his minimal...but important...contribution & the assistance he gave Brian to complete the song. Asher was important because he assured Brian the song has merit. Brian needed this valuable input from a person he greatly respected. Regarding the comments about Carl Wilson: Out of sincere brotherly love & in an effort to help build Carls' confidence & give him an opportunity to be "the front man"...Brian asked Carl if he would sing God Only Knows. Brian knew EXACTLY what he was doing & he knew brother Carl better than ANYONE. He knew the heart & soul of Carl & that "he" had the best voice for this song. More important: Brian knew Carl had the best personality to deliver the deep sentiment of the lyrics. The combination of each aspect has made God Only Knows one of the most iconic songs in rock//pop music history. If ANY other member of The Beach Boys would have voiced the lyrics of God Only Knows it would have made much less of an impact. This is the true genius of Brian Wilson. BTW: Brian has always given his brother due credit for the popularity of God Only Knows. After Carls' death, he doesn't mention much about this. Because of the emotional distress of talking about his deceased brothers. Respectfully, Ben

Brian didn’t need George Martin to help produce. Brian was a producer himself. He wrote Pet Sounds all by himself
writing and producing isn't the same thing
@sternenkind well...yeah, and so?
No Brian wrote Pet Sounds with Van Dyke Parks. Paul McCartney also was a producer, he produced all his music in the 70s and more, and a few other artists.
I think he wrote Pet Sounds also with Asher.
When I hear Brain speak I think about the gardener (billy Murray) from Caddy shack. He sounds very similar
When did this happen and where can I find the full episode? This is amazing.
I think this was a series on music composing by the BBC about 15 years ago. Hasn't been repeated unfortunately
Brian Wilson was a musically genius same as lennon and mccartney
3:12 so beautiful
amazing and a part of history. George would have set that studio up with exactly what he knew would be needed for that song. Where was the studio, I would think Abbey Road.
Suena super bien la mezcla de George Martin, agarra peso y un sentido de rock en sus manos.
Dos genios revisitando una genialidad
Those random subtitles that pop up are so, I dunno, just random.
Thank you for your video. Can you arrange it for me and Paul McCartney to sing together? I would really appreciate it. It would be a dream come true for me. I’m 65 years old and I’m a Beatle music fanatic. It’s pretty much all I play.
It is a shame George could not have worked with Brian as well as The Beatles back then ---I know some very tiny changes in a mix or sound can bring enormous life to it ...A small change can be like somebody switched on the lights in a dimly lit room --
Essence.
what is this from? is this from a full documentary of something?
Heard somewhere that Brian would write demos on only a bass guitar, is that true?
He demoed things on the piano, mostly. Sometimes an electric piano or synth in the latter days. He worked in a sandbox, which both was because they were the *Beach* Boys and because he wanted to capture a childlike atmosphere.
I wish the George Martin mix actually existed. I’d love to compare it to the master myself.
Sounds like mozart had the same connection 😮 Brian and George how did that happen!!
GreaT LessoN 😃
Does anyone know the year this was recorded?
Is that from a documentary?
Tony Asher wrote the lyrics to 'God Only Knows' not Brian, Brian did the music. Asher deserves more credit.
More credit than he gets, or more credit than Brian? I assume you mean the former.
I believe Carl needs more credit than both of them
@@benedettogee Carl gives a great performance, but as the composer and producer, Brian deserves the most credit.
NO Kelvin, the lyrics of God Only Knows are 100% Brian Wilsons'...NO OTHER HUMAN.
Tony Asher is given credit for his minimal...but important...contribution & the assistance
he gave Brian to complete the song. Asher was important because he assured Brian the song has merit. Brian needed this valuable input from a person he greatly respected. Regarding the comments about Carl Wilson:
Out of sincere brotherly love & in an effort to help build Carls' confidence & give him an opportunity to be "the front man"...Brian asked Carl if he would sing God Only Knows.
Brian knew EXACTLY what he was doing & he knew brother Carl better than ANYONE.
He knew the heart & soul of Carl & that "he" had the best voice for this song.
More important:
Brian knew Carl had the best personality to deliver the deep sentiment of the lyrics.
The combination of each aspect has made God Only Knows one of the most iconic
songs in rock//pop music history.
If ANY other member of The Beach Boys would have voiced the lyrics of God Only Knows
it would have made much less of an impact. This is the true genius of Brian Wilson.
BTW: Brian has always given his brother due credit for the popularity of God Only Knows. After Carls' death, he doesn't mention much about this. Because of the emotional distress
of talking about his deceased brothers.
Respectfully,
Ben
@@duygukayhanisaskank4915 ...NO Tony Asher wrote the lyrics
those annotations are idiotic
okaymckay, your comments only demonstrated that the ignorance is bold and nonsense
*Expressing critique of video material*
Cool
Imagine if he had received real help from a real Dr.
Or Maybe Brian was being gracious meeting a genius producer, seriously would anyone want to pick fault with Pet Sounds?
0:00:01 - 0::03:30
too much inserts and comments from the presenter while Brian and George Martin were still talking to each other .... a pity ...
Boy you sure butchered this video
This person Bob Kaplutz is SO BLOATED AND REDUNDANT...
Poor Brian doesn’t remember any of it. Sad he destroyed his talent with drugs.
2:28. Brian Wilson’s intense focus is reminiscent of Beethoven, the genius creator.
It’s like looking into the face of God.
