I used to be a park ranger and we had a few bunches of these scruffy fuckers come and ruin the place, leaving skips worth of rubbish, literally mountains of shit in the bushes, smashing stuff, robbing locals but "no one accepts us, we're being marginalized" 😂

I have no problem with people living how they want to live. I have no problem with 50 or so caravans pulling up on my local park and setting up camp for 2 weeks, I DO have problem wen they sh*t (literally) all round the park, leave used toilet paper everywhere, leave bags and bags of rubbish everywhere and ride motorcycles and vans all over the park.
Yep. You have people screaming ooh it's racist or similar. Like you said I have no problem with the lifestyle just don't wreck the place (experience of human shit also) and don't rob grannys for a shit drive or roofing. Same people have very likely never had them affect their lives.
Not all but most of them seem to demand our respect but give us none in return! That’s not to say that we must treat every one of them with contempt because the majority of travellers I have met are decent people

I think one of the real tragedies is their serious lack of education, this seems to prevent them from understanding how the rest of society functions & causes a lot of mistrust. Their mentality & attitudes seem sadly out of touch & out of date for modern life. It doesn’t help that they have zero respect for anyone either

I had a traveler dude offer to fix some dents in my car. He wouldn't leave me alone...he tried disappointment, anger and tears. He couldn't believe that I wouldn't pay him $600 to pull the very tiny, basically imperceptible dents out of my ol' beater car. He was 'only in town for one day and just happened to have his tools right there in his trunk'. He came around about 4 months later with the same script. I gently called him out on it and still asked if he could pull my 'dents' out if he gave me a discount for $450. I've been told that the whole scene can escalate with him getting injured while fixing my car. Glad I told him no.

I had a "friend" in my younger years, Tony reminded me so much of that person. Even as a 14-17 yr old he was dangerous, unpredictable, cruel, prone to acts of violence against others, strangers or "mates", and he was unstoppable when he went off. Yes he was tough, fearless, but oh so volatile, and yes he laughed a lot & "fooled around" … seriously damaged "goods" …

I’m a shop owner and sell a specific boot brand they love, without fail every single time they come in something is stolen or they try to steal. Not had one honest customer from their community.

In the US the anthropologist association dropped the term race about 30 years ago. As you noticed, it is a useless term. They replaced it with "people".

@@Cosmic-Spanner they don't move because of laws, the police wont and dont do anything anyway, i grew up around them and the only time the police done anything to them was when they was running a coke operation, even then it was a joke that they could barely contain. the police are scared to upset them and get them all worked up because they know they'll just group up, its not something they've had to do because of this, its what they do to get away with it. they'd rob your house if it wasn't on foundations and when you go to claim it back, you'll find it already smashed to pieces, in use and you'll be met with threats and hostility if you try to reclaim it.
i literally lived around them my whole life and they really don't move about, they'll be within a 15 mile radius. the ones i went to primary school with are still in the area, got their own caravan and everything now and i'm 36, so been here well over 30 years. they do travel but its normally to places like Ireland, to see family and things like that but they do make a home and stay. if you seen some recently and they get moved on, just look at other car parks that are out the way and places like that, you'll notice they'll always be the same bunch.
to add, the car parks in my area also haven't been open for about 20 years, they got a crane in with giant concrete squares, probably weigh about 2 ton and just blocked the whole place, it hasn't opened since. this is due to gypsies keep breaking through the gate that would get locked at night and once moved on, we was left with a car park full of broken glass, as much garbage as 5-15 families would dispose of, then top that up over the weeks/months they're there and the multiple mountains of used diapers that smell exactly like you could imagine.

I live in Kansas US, dated a gypsy for 5 yrs, his "business" was asphalt. I had elderly ppl call me constantly begging me to have him come finish the job. How he convinced them to pay upfront I never understood. They'd just take their money and leave. The park they never stayed in for more then a month. Then relocate. They'd rent machinery, then take off with it. They're thieves. He got everything I had, left me broke and broken with no warning. I despise these ppl

My friend walked past this old, unkempt and unloved horse every day. One day the gypsy owner was there and my friends mum begged him to sell it to them, he did. When they cleaned him up and the vet came to examine him. He was only 18 months old, poor thing, best thing that could have happened to him, getting him away from neglect

I'd love to see DNA testing on them as they very well may have the ancestry they claim but they look nothing like the Romani in Bulgaria, Romania, & Central/Western Europe). Gypsies usually refer to the Roma or Romanichal people. Most gypsies from the UK are Romanichal. They, like the Roma, do decend from people from Northern India, however they tend to have more indigenous European admixture than the Roma. The people in this documentary were implied to be Romanichal.

I had a few interactions with gypsies in the UK. What I will say, is that if people have a negative view of the culture, there is a reason for it, and it’s because they have a reputation for funding their lifestyles through welfare and crime. I don’t exactly think this is a secret, if you asked them, they’d probably tell you as much. Watching this documentary, despite the producers best attempts to make them out to be victims, it’s fairly easy to ‘read between the lines,’ and understand that they are not exactly law abiding citizens. Not every minority group are ‘victims,’ or the recipients of ‘racism,’ the producers must have searched long and hard to find their cases where they have been the victims of racism, but what they didn’t say, is these are statistical outliers. Usually it’s someone else who is the victim at their hands.
I had maney interactions with gypsies an I found them to be very hard working people ! Loyal too. . I am the forman on site , gypsys are good workers.

If you're friendly with travellers and show respect they'll help you in any way they can. Unfortunately like all walks of life there is that element that are involved with crime. I come from a hard working class area of Dublin. There is a lot of crime in this area. When I'm working in Upper class areas of South dublin I have to say I'm from glasnevin instead of finglas because the majority look down on me and don't trust me. Just because there's crime in the community doesn't mean every member of the community is guilty. Shameful really.

Im 39 yo third generation traveller and have found irish travellers and english gypsies to be some of the nicest and most loyal people ive ever met so i suggest you actually get to meet some of them

I donate £500 every year to international animal rescue. I also feed foxes every day. I have a Romanian rescued dog who I wouldn’t dare cage or tie up, leave outside…. I would consider myself a true animal lover.

For what it's worth I actually think that meat and animal products can be fine so long as the animals are treated respectfully and looked after by people who have their wellbeing at heart. Very good documentary! Gypsies-Limited education, many kids, often fancy cars and clothes yet poor looking homes(except Alphie) . Reminds me of a group of people in America. …. Fun to be around, interesting and tough. I love how strong the families are. Yet we know they are not good for the overall communities. They don’t assimilate. And yes , many of them steal. It’s not morally wrong for them.

@@shannonnic7361 as per psychology, it is a multi-modal approach. For example, socioeconomic, social learning, environmental factors, biological, psychological, life events and stressors to name just a few to be taken into consideration.
This is why education and social skills are important.
The problem with Travelers is it's a 50/50 thing. 50% good 50% Bad. I'm Irish I have friends who are from the traveling community all great people who put their kids through school and sports and want good things for them. Then the other side, absolute nightmare! They take and destroy and leave nothing but misery wherever they are.
I'd say closer to 90% bad, 10% good with the Irish ones. I'm Irish too btw

I would love to see statistics on that topic, I always ask myself about the clans and their culture in how many robbery is seen as Robin Hood like action. I am pretty sure there are other communities and I would have loved to have a balanced documentary with more numbers.

Does anyone wonder why there is prejudice? Their treatment of dogs and horses is bloody awful. I've a pony that was broken by travellers. I mean properly broken. His mind was broken by what they did to him and I have the vet reports and X-rays to show what happened to the poor sod. After the abuse had screwed him up so badly that he could never be ridden or driven he was sold on time and time again, fair to sale to auction, and every new owner tried to break him to ride or drive and found they couldn't. Then he was swapped for a used saddle, ended up with another traveller who said she would keep him as long as it took to get him right, but advertised him within a week. That's where I came along. His 4th home in 12 months. It became obvious there was something badly wrong and after spending thousands on xrays and vet bills, it got pieced together. When I can no longer care for him, he will be shot here with me talking to him and feeding him his favourite ginger nut biscuits. I promised him I would never again pass him on.
This made me tear up. How beautifully sad.
OMG! What a heartbreaking story, yet is seems to happen so often. I cry when I see and hear stories of cruelty towards animals. The mind cannot comprehend the horrors of it all. You are one special person who has a heart of gold (there are others amongst us who also care and do their best to help and care for those who have suffered abuse) I wish you all the very best and hope that you will be able to share some happy times with that beautiful pony you rescued. @@PhyllisGlassup2TheBrim - I have a family friend over here in the US that takes in horses that have been abused and they just become 'pat and chat' horses, which is such a nice name. Luckily her children are going to continue what she does. It's not a cheap thing to take in a horse that's been abused and neglected but I believe there's a special in the afterlife for people that do.

They are not registered at birth so they are not classed as corporate property owned by the Crown Corporation. This means that the legal system does not apply to them. As such they only have to follow common law.
Legal / Illegal only applies to the "Person" not the living flesh created by the divine. In blacks law dictionary a person is defined as a Corporation these matters are dealt with in a magistrates court.
A man / woman who isn't registered is dealt with in a Crown court with a jury of 12. These courts only dealt with the flesh and blood human created by the divine.
The country UK is actually a corporation and your birth certificate is basically a trust fund and 1 share in UK plc. We call them Tinkers in Ireland. I’m American but my parents are Irish and we used to visit my granny every summer for a few weeks in Kilkenny. I remember when the tinkers came through one summer and set up camp in the tiny town (Castlecomer) right across the street from my granny’s house in a grassy field. One of them started banging down our door one morning asking if we could boil him some water in his kettle 😂 (my mom did, of course). And true to their nickname, Tinkers, he asked if we had any pots or pans that needed fixing. At least he was an old school one and they let me play with their horses and their caravans were gorgeous but I could never imagine living in one, they were tiny!
Different now…they all live in top of the range motor homes…not bad for stealing a living

@@Gay-Icon I've spoken to travellers about the state of their animals (e.g. horses being illegally tethered to the side of extremely busy roads in the pouring rain for days on end with no grass or water). The police and the RSPCA were unhelpful. The travellers themselves, unsurprisingly, were extremely hostile and clearly couldn't give a toss about their animals. They always claim to be animal lovers but it couldn't be further from the truth. Like with everyone else, they merely use and exploit them.

What an enchanting documentary! I loved every minute of it! Glad to see they keep so many traditions but a little shocked about the Jersey Shore approach. Quite shallow and chintzy on the surface but with decent core family values and plenty of spirituality... Tony is a mesmerizing character. I really appreciate the Scottish chap with his horse and wagon. But yeah - a fascinating story very well told. Thanks!
Note: The gypsy community in the documentary is not part of the Roma or Sinti group from India. That's a a local UK community, I dont know where they originated from but, they share nothing with the Roma or other ehnicities you find in Eurasia. The documentary is inaccurate.
