That is great to have psychedelics for treatment. 4:03 So glad to hear Dr. Johnson address this. While it shouldn't be used to discount the entirety of the modern mental health crisis (and he doesn't), it's very important to communicate that expanding parameters and wider screening for depression has played a major role in the apparent sudden uptick in depression. This is analogous to the apparent "increase" in autism starting in the 90's, which many are aware has at least a lot to do with changes in screening, though likely not everything to do with it. If we are being responsible thinkers, then we can simultaneously acknowledge facts like these, and that these rates of depression are very concerning nonetheless.
It can get a lot worse very quickly too, if people don't clean up their mental state. AI is coming and it's going to amplify all of our mental issues to extreme degrees. Be healthy or go insane, basically.
@@AnnSisuLiv The problem there is when you are depressed you don't really want to exercise and want to eat crap. But you are right, they do make a big difference.
Adverse Chlidhood Experiences (ACEs), Felitti and Anda, 1996, is the most important research of our time, and it coincides with the research outcomes you mention here.
I did shrooms with a friend last week in the mountains on Big Horn National Park for lifelong depression and OCD. 2.3 grams of Golden Teachers. The come up on a empty stomach was insane making me lose my intent. My friend, a lifelong psychonaut with psychedelics told me to hold on to it next time. Regardless, my depression has noticeably lifted a bit and my OCD is controllable, which is pretty incredible. Years of being on sertraline in my past didnt even come close to about a week of after effects of shrooms. Cant wait to do it again!
Next time you do them, do them in a nice, comfy environment with a sober sitter you absolutely trust, some soft music, and water…. And the most important part? Let go. Just let go and let them take you where you need to go. As an extreme control freak, it took a lot for my brain to let go, but eventually they got through that mental stranglehold and it was a genuinely life altering experience for the better. ❤
@heathercaulberg7733 Haha yep @ having a sober sitter. He was completely useless! I remember walking up to him looking for comforting reassurance and said..."do your breathing exercises. I'm on my own journey" an tilted his head down and to the side closing his eyes. Haha. And yeah, it was hard letting go during the come up. I wanted it to stop making myself throw up. I was a mess on the come up. Not too bad though. When I peaked and plateaued is when I finally sat down, relaxed and let it do its thing. But damn, I was fully tripping at 20 mins, peaked at about 45 and already coming down at the hour and 45 min mark for a total duration of barely 4 hours Wasn't expecting that. My friend was the same way. Another person we were with peaked in like 2 and a half hours and said she felt it for like 7. Crazy how it effects people so differently to that degree. So insane looking back, throwing up down by the river, watching the flowing water looking like those Van Gogh sky paintings and walking back to camp, sitting down and looking off in the distance at the mountainous landscape. Whewww. My god! Im def ready for the next journey. I know what to expect now.
@@WFMguy That sounds incredibly intense! Just out of curiosity, how many shrooms did you eat? Not by grams, because I have no clue how many are in a gram, to be honest.
@heathercaulberg7733 The strain I took, Golden Teachers, it was 2 full mushrooms, caps and stems, and the rest was a crumbled up mixture of the two. I remember looking at them before eating to make sure they were magic mushrooms. I was so nervous about eating the wrong kind and dieing instead of tripping! It's crazy how this is a possibility. Wanting to trip but instead need a liver transplant. Smh. When I saw all that I had had blue streaks and marks all over, I knew I was good to go though. They bruise blue when handled in case you didnt know. Mushrooms are a cool thing. How they can re-wire and reset the brain. Have you read up on it? They're so interesting.
@@WFMguy Been doing a lot of reading on it. We have a field with liberty caps here. Takes a LotR more than just two with them. Heh. Fungi in general are fascinating. I have weird theories about them and consciousness. Blue streaks?
I went from being the alcoholic everyone worried about, to the guy that got his shit together big time; but everyone thinks I'm crazy. people are funny. Ayahuasca, dmt from mimosa hostilis, and my friends the mushrooms.. Pretty serious medicine. It's frustrating knowing what they can do, watching people suffer unnecessarily. The fact that they are illegal is very disturbing and tells you everything you need to know about the people making these insane laws
I am a shaman initiated by an already two established shamans. About 20 years ago I started an apprentice ship with my spiritual benefactors. I have been chosen by the spirits which was terrifying. I'm glad I made it through alive. Some don't. I would not have made it through this process of being chosen by the spirits. If it was not for my spiritual benefactors handing down their sacred knowledge and wisdom to me. Now I know how to shift my perception without the use of entheogens. I have learned to navigate the world of the unseen. I go into non ordinary states of consciousness using just my will. No need for entheogens. I have learned how to flow, shift, and move my perception to ones that are not ordinarily perceived by the average man.
i was bedridden depressed for years. first of all I had a toxic family my brother used to beat me, kids on the streets also, my parents were always about the money still , it was a shitty childhood but with money, then I became aggressive to the point I would use knives or weapons to defend myself from other teens, lucky I never stabbed someone, then I start doing sports boxing weightlifting and the DDR arcade machine, also roller skating then bam life happens and I really messed up my knees not because an serious injury it was that they just detected something wrong with my knees and turns out my meniscus and ligaments were destroyed got surgery twice but the last time they really fk me up I became so depressed for years ... then the mushrooms came and I was able to get out of bed, I would have lots of trips by myself, I think the most I have done it's 5g. thats how I managed to left my bed.
I'm all for magic mushrooms. SSRIs suck and are very dangerous in my opinion. People are just realizing that they are living in a shit system. And need hope in this world. It is the corrupt environment in which we live making us feel this way.
I don’t think this guy actually understands depression. Zoloft kept me stable enough to not kill myself so I could live through therapy, and it’s hard to never become depressed with how the world is right now. Even people who used to be middle class are living paycheck to paycheck, it’s literally harder to survive. Of course it’s harder to escape depression.
Ya ive been crushed with depression for over 10 years, recently started psychedelics once to twice a month and bam no more methadone, no more ssri anti psychotics, im free and finally happy ❤ psychedelics are a game changer for treatment resistance depression
In my experience, the fun of psychedelics comes after you do the work. They're beautiful, but when you have stored trauma and depression along with it, it is a _massively heavy_ experience, which is why it's by default non-addictive. It's too exhausting even after you do the work lol it's not like numbing yourself with alcohol, it's very, very different.
**DMT saved my life from Depression and anxiety, all thanks goes to this mycologist who has been my saviour during my journey on DMT,he also got other psychedelic stuffs in his store, shipping discreetly worldwide**
I strongly support the legalization of psychedelics, believing they hold great potential in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I deeply admire and respect those who work to shed light on this important topic. However, I wish the discourse could be more measured to ensure that the subject is treated with the seriousness it deserves. I fear that those in positions of power, who are able to authorize further research or legalization, might dismiss the issue due to the tone or language used. It’s vital that we present this cause in a way that amplifies the credibility of those involved, ensuring that their efforts to improve lives are recognized. Thank you for your dedication and hard work Dr. Johnson.
This ibogaine “expert” is wrong about almost everything he says. The experience lasts 48 to 72 hours not 12. Ibogaine does act on the opioid receptors, that’s why it alleviates withdrawals. It doesn’t “reset the kappa opioid receptor” and most opioids we use dont even act on kappa, they act on mu opioid. The fact that this guy is in charge of treatment is concerning
I say this as an atheist: I can’t help but notice the correlation between declining religiously and declining mental health. It’s uncomfortable but undeniable.
Well, as an other atheist, I thought about this too, but just because two separate things are happening at the same time, it does not mean they are connected. Sure, if you have a belief that could help you to believe that things have a reason. Loosing direction, loosing hope, loosing meaning, can make some feel terrible, even depressed. But it could be that a third reason is behind these two declining. Namely, how people are stuck in their lives because of how capitalism cornering them, by first making them believe that to be happy they need to buy stuff and live like people shown on TV or tiktok... then make them work non stop for money that will never cover those newly found dreams. And making then stuck at those jobs.
It definitely is true that religiosity is highly correlated with low mental health. But religiosity is also associated with family, community, support networks, hopeful attitudes etc. hard to figure out which is the thing that does the thing
We as a species are struggling to comprehend new and more complex views of the universe. I believe that we are on our way to being able to see it clearly and to be grounded in what is real.
SSRIs did nothing for my anxiety m, despite being prescribed for me by my doc with the assurance they would. Shrooms worked. They’re still working, and I swear by them.
I dont understand how anything that isnt coke or an amphetamine can help with mental health. Everything ive tried that isnt an upper increases my thoughts of self harm by a 100. My friends will be like "dude you need to smoke and relax" but everytime i do i just sit there and dwell on everything that bothers me.
It's because depression can have many causes (and many types, most people don't know this) Sounds like you have dopamine/noradrenaline issues. Possibly. Idk tho. People with serotonin issues get more anxious and angry or maybe even psychotic on amphetamines But a person with missing dopamine signaling might just get "fixed" by it.
The interviewee is completely misrepresenting what SSRIs do. They are not "happy pills". I don't take medication to feel happy..I take medication to function in my day to day. Otherwise I would be in bed, with no job and in a constant state of panic. I might add..depression is not a state of being sad from everyday occurrences. Depression exists whether you have a "great life" or a "crappy life". Yes depression can come from actions or inactions you make in life but chronic depression can just exist simply because of your genetics. To say people are depressed because they're stuck at a dead end job or they have a mean boss is a gross misrepresentation of what depression really is.
What?? That's basically what he DOES say: "let's say you're so depressed that you can't get out of bed, the more sophisticated and enlightened idea from the get-go was : go on these medications, you're gonna be able to get out of bed. During that window of opportunity, work on your relationship, etc." He then goes on to say it simply doesn't end up working out like that a lot of the time (sometimes it does) because people stay on them for years, and this is obviously true if you look at the data of SSRI use.
He also doesn't say that people are depressed because they're in a dead end job but that that's ONE of the possible reasons. And that CAN be the case, you're just dead wrong if you deny it. You can denigrate the reality of it all you want, feeling like you have to do something you don't like, don't see a point to, for 8 hours a day every week for the rest of your life obviously can have a MASSIVE psychological impact on how someone feels about themselves and their life. Denying that is utterly absurd. Genetics can to an extent be a factor in depression, but depression cannot "exist simply because of your genetics" because otherwise people that have the "depression genes" would just be depressed 100% of the time for all their lives. There obviously is MUCH more than genes to it.
I appreciate this pushback. If I were to grant Dr. Johnson a little grace, I would say that he has intentionally simplified his communication of what SSRIs do, though to the point of miscommunicating it. If he were being more precise, he would say that SSRIs promote detachment or disassociation from pain, whether endogenous pain as in depression or from outside stimuli. This very clearly does not make one "happy"- the more correct thing to say would be numbed, although there's a negative valence on that word, even though it can be very important to numb chronic pain when it is debilitating. I'm very glad to hear that these have helped get you out of bed and to function. Even those with chronic pain will know that sometimes pain really is calling attention to something substantial, like an injury. The problem Dr. Johnson mentions is a real problem with SSRIs, which is that they do not discriminate between the kind of depression you have due to unlucky genes, and the kind of depression that manifests from intolerable outside circumstances. Sometimes someone ends up on an SSRI when the cause of the depression is something like being trapped in an abusive relationship, and instead of being equipped to act on the source of the pain, they become numb to that. Certainly "happy" is not the right word, but you might call them complacent with their circumstances in a situation in which they should not be complacent. I'm inclined to grant Dr. Johnson a little grace because he hedges his statements by saying that SSRIs are sometimes over-prescribed, but that he wouldn't want to overstate it, because they have "helped many people" and they are "important tools in the toolbox". So, I think it is important if it seems like someone is saying something totally ridiculous, to listen again and notice if that's really what they are saying.
I would echo other comments here. He isn't saying that all people have depression because they're stuck in dead end jobs. They're talking about that specific hypothetical scenario as a way to describe a situation where action might be more beneficial to an SSRI.
Now that trials show good results, it would be time to look at the "authority" that blanked banned their use and call them irresponsible for their actions.
They Microdosing Psilocybin Mushrooms therapy is the best to treat all chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues, see below he’s well known in the field, he’s got psyche meds and microdosing, grow kit, chocolate bars, gummies, MDMA, LSD, DMT?
Be careful with psychedelics. They have some uses in terms of giving some creativity and helping one self reflect but they are forming a personality completely out of your normal ego which i think is not good in the long run if someone has had trauma and pain in their life. They can weaken you mentally and soften your barriers which can ruin you if you are not careful. I think most people would be better off just getting therapy than taking shrooms.
I oftern wonder if psychedelics could help those of us with trauma based personality disorders, Borderline, Narcissist, and my own schizoid. Would a "reset" help the soul/core wound? What about the with the Dopamine Theory of Schizophrenia (the updated model), could a long term therapy be useful to "recalibrate" the brains Dopamine channels and receptors, and if that might happen, what about ADHD (that might explain the link between ADHD and schizophrenia)
I think it does help, "from experience". Especially if you are spiritual...But be safe please.🙏 My anger/rage, depression and anxiety have severely reduced since discovering these magical gifts from the earth (Psilocybin).🌎 ✨️
I think it's fun... um I will admit that there can definitely be unfun times lmao. Maybe try something different than ketamine, they all kinda.. have thier own way of changing perception. Ketamine for one person might be amazing for another it's awful. Everyone is different. That's why the really need to legalize more than just S ketamine.
Im wondering now wether ibogaine could work for adhd on a more long term basis. I think it would be the person themselves treating themselves in their mind but how would that work. I only kno setting a goal before u go and writing down what u saw and try to figure out what the trip was trying to tell u
Because ADHD is a neurological disorder and not a mood or behavioral disorder, probably not as effectively. But treating other issues will for sure help with ADHD, so it’s possible. Also, ibogaine is a mild stimulant at low doses, so that in itself is helpful, but not psychedelic.
I love doing mushrooms and have had overwhelmingly positive experiences. But the benefits didn't last long. I take an SSRI that heavily reduces anxiety and depression on a consistent basis, however, it does have its downsides. I would much rather go the mushroom route, I promise. My attempt to switch to shrooms this summer didn't cut it, and I know I would have struggled worse through the winter. A study I saw was a mushroom dose vs 6 weeks of a common SSRI. 6 weeks is not enough. It would likely take 4-8 weeks to even get to a therapeutic dose (10+mg) never mind see benefits. That's how bias can hinder science; I don't think it was a fair comparison. I'd want to see them after 6 months or 6 years, not 6 weeks. TMS also looks super promising for depression and anxiety so my fingers are crossed.
They can negatively interact. DMT and LSD + SSRIs can cause Serotonin syndrome which can be very dangerous if mixed. I heard that somewhere, but I'm not an expert so ask someone who is.
Yes and that may treat your depression IF that is it's cause! Serotonin signaling the lymbic system has different tasks than in the neocortex, where psychedelics hit. It could even be that due to missing signaling in the wrong parts, psychs might not work at all, like for me! But my problems seem to be more related to Dopamine and Noradrenaline. So the Tyrosine amines, as i call them.
The current issue is both are still under tested resulting in unforeseen side effects such as been unable to cry under normal circumstances as well as changes in your sexual perception.
There are much more efficient ways of making capsules that are consistent by weight within about 20-30 milligrams. Dude was just bare hand scooping up powder with the capsule 😂. C'mon man
All i can say is that psychedelics suck for me. My depression is different. Deeper. Psychedelics can't reach me. My neocortex can't reach me. Whatever psychedelics make me realize in it, doesn't matter. Because the deeper parts of my brain cannot reach my neocortex.

@@WFMguy
That sounds incredibly intense!
@@WFMguy
Been doing a lot of reading on it. We have a field with liberty caps here. Takes a LotR more than just two with them. Heh.

Blue streaks?

Ayahuasca, dmt from mimosa hostilis, and my friends the mushrooms.. Pretty serious medicine.

That’s very interesting

i was bedridden depressed for years. first of all I had a toxic family my brother used to beat me, kids on the streets also, my parents were always about the money still , it was a shitty childhood but with money, then I became aggressive to the point I would use knives or weapons to defend myself from other teens, lucky I never stabbed someone, then I start doing sports boxing weightlifting and the DDR arcade machine, also roller skating then bam life happens and I really messed up my knees not because an serious injury it was that they just detected something wrong with my knees and turns out my meniscus and ligaments were destroyed got surgery twice but the last time they really fk me up I became so depressed for years ... then the mushrooms came and I was able to get out of bed, I would have lots of trips by myself, I think the most I have done it's 5g. thats how I managed to left my bed.
I'm all for magic mushrooms. SSRIs suck and are very dangerous in my opinion. People are just realizing that they are living in a shit system. And need hope in this world. It is the corrupt environment in which we live making us feel this way.
Psilocybin is an experience that will put your priorities in order immediately.
No, it's WAY more effective and lesss dangerous than ssri's
Stupid title, stupid thumbnail, FANTASTIC interviewee!
What a time to be alive 🍄
What a Legend, Dr. Johnson.
Psychedelics saved me from crippling depression and suicidal ideation. So glad to see them being more commonly recognised as legitimate medicine
Psychs heal depression, SSRI just numbs the brain
Nope. Psychs are dangerous and have extremely bad side effects.
Yes. They work.
No. They work differently. Even if both act on serotonin, the brain regions are mostly different and the mechanism of action is also different.
@FAWLSHROOM
I agree with the perspective of cleanse. It does feel like a cleanse so you can start fresh.

I think the reason is religion for all its faults provides a sense of family a sense of belonging. There's a saying...
Atheism is loneliest religion
Correlation does not imply causation.

I so glad he corrected him and said Star Wars cantina
I dont understand how anything that isnt coke or an amphetamine can help with mental health. Everything ive tried that isnt an upper increases my thoughts of self harm by a 100. My friends will be like "dude you need to smoke and relax" but everytime i do i just sit there and dwell on everything that bothers me.
It's because depression can have many causes (and many types, most people don't know this)
Sounds like you have dopamine/noradrenaline issues. Possibly. Idk tho. People with serotonin issues get more anxious and angry or maybe even psychotic on amphetamines
But a person with missing dopamine signaling might just get "fixed" by it.
As a.. newer psychonaut. I've had the same experience. Until shrooms. This stuff actually works. Most pharmaceuticals are just bandaids at most.
You're not depressed and you don't need SSRIs.
Its the future of medicine
I knew this could save in some way the world ....mushroom in any form and kind its so usefull in so many ways on earth ❤
Now that trials show good results, it would be time to look at the "authority" that blanked banned their use and call them irresponsible for their actions.
Psychedelics have almost no risk if used with THCA for anxiety and CBD for depression
On Telegram also Instagrams as?
*@PHARMSTAIN* that's the handle
Be careful with psychedelics. They have some uses in terms of giving some creativity and helping one self reflect but they are forming a personality completely out of your normal ego which i think is not good in the long run if someone has had trauma and pain in their life. They can weaken you mentally and soften your barriers which can ruin you if you are not careful. I think most people would be better off just getting therapy than taking shrooms.
Placebos are as effective as SSRIs so sure, why not?
What about bipolar disorder 1
They tell us we are ill mentally so we think we should buy the miracle product…gotcha.
I had 6 IV ketamine infusions and I'm one who was asking "people taking THIS for fun???!!!"
How are the treatments ?
Do they help ?
I think it's fun... um I will admit that there can definitely be unfun times lmao. Maybe try something different than ketamine, they all kinda.. have thier own way of changing perception. Ketamine for one person might be amazing for another it's awful. Everyone is different. That's why the really need to legalize more than just S ketamine.
Sadly, only the rich can access this treatment.

A better world is NOT going to happen. The rich ruling class will make sure of this.
Right, don't fix the hole in your roof, just expect it to never rain again. That's thinkin'!
Short aswer: No, better
“I’m just a smoker” no, I’m just me
Im wondering now wether ibogaine could work for adhd on a more long term basis.
Yea I don't need to be blasted thanks anyway.
3:17 he lost already all credibility, because this decrease was because of the pandemic!
Can psychedelics be used together with SSRIS to treat depression?
They can negatively interact. DMT and LSD + SSRIs can cause Serotonin syndrome which can be very dangerous if mixed. I heard that somewhere, but I'm not an expert so ask someone who is.
@@olivierlaborde7887No, that’s only with MAOIs. Not SSRIs. Taking ayahuasca, for example, is dangerous with SSRIs, because it has DMT and an MAOI.
Maybe, but SSRIs will blunt psychedelic trips, won’t be as effective.
Just eat crab feed as an anti depresent

SSRIs do not treat depression. SSRIs treat how your body contends with serotonin. That is all.

All i can say is that psychedelics suck for me. My depression is different. Deeper. Psychedelics can't reach me. My neocortex can't reach me. Whatever psychedelics make me realize in it, doesn't matter. Because the deeper parts of my brain cannot reach my neocortex.
