The Mongolian Border, 1979: Massive fossils of unknown creatures are discovered in the mountains, and the research team assigned to excavate the remains includes acclaimed Professor Yang (Wang Qingxiang), Hu Bayi (Mark Chao), and Ping (Yao Chen), the professor's beautiful daughter. When a freak explosion, lethal bat attack, and fall to the mountain's floor leaves only a handful of survivors, the small remaining band uncovers a mythic Cyclopean Temple - and an Interdimensional Portal that looses a pack of ravenous Hell-Beasts, leaving only Hu alive. New York City, Present Day: Now living a quiet but tormented life as a librarian, Hu studies demonology manuscripts to find answers for that fateful day. Little does he know that Professor Yang has just been found wandering the mountains thousands of miles from where he supposedly died; a young woman with amnesia was just discovered in a recently-uncovered tomb; and a Northern Chinese mining town has just been ravaged by giant, unknown creatures...

***** the story of doctor strange been out longer. ive seen the animated one years ago that had the same plot. they probably just change the setting and maybe the main character life injury. the story is monster attacking looking for a secret place while human magic wielder protect the place but also destroy the monsters, they get a man who has a origin that start with the attacks but is really trying to get his old life back. he get chosen by this hidden group to help defeat the monsters once and for all and save the planet.

I just watched this movie on Amazon prime videos and it was AWESOME if your into Fantasy movies like i am...i didn't even mind reading the subtitles. My only complaint is it ends with a definite cliffhanger that leaves you wanting a sequel and as far as i know the Chinese still hasn't made a 2nd movie as of 2024 and this movie is from 2015 or 2016 so we are long over due for a sequel! SO WILL THERE BE A SEQUEL OR NOT that's my only question???

Why do all these Chinese movies look so terrible… Every single one looks worse than the last.
Except for people like Korosawa, Ozu, Mizoguchi, etc., the Japanese live actions also look terrible. I would chuck it down to budget, but the actors are awful, too. They act like kids in a junior grade play. Really don't get it.
@Alexandre Martins Asian audiences look for different things in their media as opposed to western audiences, is all. Though the acting and the effects might be a bit exaggerated Ive noticed their stories also tend to be more epic when they get it right
