Singing on the Eifel Tower, in the rain, at night, with a real-life orchestra, overcoming her conditions, and probably singing for her dead husband the hymne of love, while all of Paris sheds tears enough to make a new little ocean. it can't get any better.

She is a huge talent and the moment on the Eiffel tower was superlative. However it has now been admitted that for safety and other reasons, she did not sing live. Also the studio recording was digitally enhanced (not auto tune), by a production sound engineer.

See the film PIAF ( French w subtitles ) to see the back story on her one true love, a Moroccan Boxer who she was with ( he was married in Morocco ) in France. She is touring America, invites him to fly to meet her, his plane crashes. She never comes back from that. Died 14 years later at 43ish. As a Frenchman I guarantee you that it is my favorite song in French. She performs it rarely. It was fantastic.
Her voice moves and inspires me.

One for the ages, indeed. I don't mean disrespect but my sense is that Celine Dion even eclisped Edith Piaf here. Of course recording technology is greatly advanced now which accounts for the exceptional beauty of Celine's rendition.
This is a way of reuniting Edith with her lover. Instead of bringing him to New York. Celine brought Edith to him in Paris through the rendition of this song on top of the Eiffel tower. God bless Celine and Edith.

As a Frenchman, this anthem of love and loss is my favorite french song. ( see the film Piaf, to see the full story ) it is in french w subtitles.
It is about her one true love, a Moroccan Boxer & she were lovers. She's touring USA, on his way to meet her in NY, his plane crashed. She lost the will to live and died 14 years later. But she did write and record this anthem in the wake of it. ( I think ).

It is true, there are finer singers out there, yet overall there is something unique about how Celine puts across a song.
It’s going to be hard topping this in the closing ceremonies. To me this was the highlight of the opening. It was a great comeback after everything she’s been through.

@@CelineAnastacia2023I’m afraid the vocal was proven to be pre-recorded & pitch adjusted. As much as I adore Celine too there’s no way this could have been performed live vocally. Sorry to burst your bubble, but most “live” performances are not completely “live” vocals.

The power of voice and music!
Prior to these Olympics, one of Celine's most iconic moments took place in Quebec City when she got on stage with Ginette Reno, her childhood idol . It was the first time ever singing together. The inspirational song is "Un peu plus haut" (A little higher). That was an extremely emotional event for both.
