All the off-highway ones are round, I think mainly because they originally used a wooden pole, so it was easiest to use round pipe when they started using steel. Right into the late 60's there were still off highway trucks using wood.

    These trucks are beasts

Yes, it is steeper than it looks! There is no Jake, but it has water cooled brakes and a hydraulic retarder on the six speed Allison.

The retarder is built into the back of the Allison powershift 6 speed, it looks like the impeller in a water pump. The case fills with oil when you step on a pedal, and that slows the truck down.

Cool, thanks for letting me know!

There is a pedal on the left for the retarder, and the regular brake is in the normal place. There is no jake brake. The trailer brakes are controlled by a handle on the steering column.

Most of these trucks only have the hydraulic retarder. The one with the C15 has both an engine brake and a retarder.

I can burn your org's to DVD or put in MPEG4 on a 4GB SD card if you would like and ship em back for free. :) I gotta get north of the boarder and visit some of these areas this summer.

Get yourself a inexpensive capture device and capture that right into the computer instead of taking video tape of your TV. They plug into your USB port and connect straight to the VCR or camera or whatever you are using. Your videos will look much better. Less then $30.

Cool, I love learning things like this! So is their a pedal for the regular brakes, jake brake, and retarder? Hows the system set up?
