      Serial killer cases are really rare, there may be one every decade or so, the 80's/90's for varying reasons were hot decades for serial crimes. BUT it's already been said by specialists in the US that there are always an estimated 25-50 serial killers active in any given year. Now this does make serial killers really rare still, but that could also be a product of victims not being connected or something similar.
      Hikers disappearing in some of the most remote parts of the country isn't so so suspicious to murder unless it's proven otherwise and that can be difficult if they're never found.

      The searchers are probably not venturing out alone, have a few buddies, and they show up EXPERIENCED and with proper supplies. Whereas those who go missing are usually amateur hikers, moderate experience at best, and poorly prepared in case they get lost. They picked the WRONG TIME to go out exploring alone, and that is that.

    My first ever backpacking trip was to Glastenbury. I stayed at Goddard. Crossed Hell Hollow Brook and felt creeped out (I believe this is where the spent shell casing was found). It was the middle of summer but creepy quiet. Didn’t see a soul the entire time. I was struck with awful knee pain on the second day. I could barely hike out. It was sort of scary. I always chalked that trip up to being a beginner until I found out about the Bennington Triangle. I don’t believe in that kind of thing, but I won’t go solo there. Nooooope

    I’m also a native Vermonter from the same area as these events and let me tell you, it’s left a mark. Shirley Jackson wrote a novel based on the Welden disappearance, and the state police were founded as a direct result of those events. I don’t know what to make of it, but a lot of people I know around here do think it might have been some kind of serial killer, because of the fairly short timespan and the proximity of the events.

    • @darktheories1758
      @darktheories1758 5 месяцев назад +6

      It's not that strange. People have horrible memories for strangers. We also tend to try to fit things in a little box logically, which causes some people to make logical leaps that aren't actually logical. Such as the supernatural. It's most likely that he got off and didn't get back on, and their memories of seeing him are betraying their minds for the actual time point they saw him. At some point, he was not on that bus, and people can not evaporate or demolecularize. Which means he had to physically leave the bus, and being our memories are faulty, it's most likely these people are misremembering the thing. See Nelson Mandela if you want to see how flawed memories can be on a cultural level.

    • @0lyge0
      @0lyge0 4 месяца назад

      @@darktheories1758Plus there is very little quality information about it. When you look it up you get a bunch of speculative stuff about the mystery disappearance from the bus and all kinds of theories, and a lot of those have incorrect information as their foundation.

    Some viewers may be from flat states. Vermont may be different than your perception. It is difficult to describe how challenging the terrain and weather can be. Even the main roads are mostly twisting hilly mountain roads that have very steep (icy?) inclines and sharp curves. It is like that area north of Little Rock, with all the hairpin turns but add cruel winters with pop up ice storms and nasty squalls. Most of the state seems frozen in time many decades ago from an infrastructure perspective. Wooden covered bridges, main routes are reduced to one lane going under a bridge. It is difficult to find anything open on Sunday and you may drive for hours without finding any kind of food at all, depending on your route.

    • @matthewmosier8439
      @matthewmosier8439 Год назад +17

      I disagree. Being unprepared is why a person would have less chance of surviving. BUT, not why they would vanish. The sensitivity of the camera can be adjusted as well as the length of video recordings. Once I found the sweet spot, I was getting great clips of deer and other animals almost every day. I was worried about battery life but have been running off the same 4 aa batteries for over a month. The SD card is easy to remove and connect to a computer. I have a Mac, and the AVI files open natively in QuickTime and are easy to save and share. This is a great, budget-friendly trail cam.

    It was my dream to hike the Appalachian trail but a brain wasting disease put that dream to an end. I grew up in GA and moved to ME with my husband and have hiked parts of the trail in several states, but of course never had the opportunity to do the whole trail. It never ceases to amaze me how people will hike in with "day hiker" mentality and get in serious trouble and folk who hike alone also strike me as not too bright. Anything can happen. Here in Maine I was stalked by some creep until he realized I was not going to be alone at any point in time. Hubby let the man see he was armed and I wasn't going ANYWHERE alone, not even the bathroom. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'm still alive, so I think it was to my benefit to be that cautious.

    I completely believe in the Bennington Triangle. My grandfather, George Joseph Regan, was a lawyer in New York City who built a vacation home in Pownal, VT, and was there with his family when Paula Jean Weldon went missing. He joined one of the first search parties to search for her. He told my father when he was older that there was a triangle in Vermont where weird things happened and how he’d never forgotten how shocked he was they never found a trace of Paula Jean.

I'd heard not to weqr red on Glastonbury Mountain...so I wore all pink. 😂 We slept in the lean-to, I woke up during the night needing a pee. I wasn't about to go down the hill to the outhouse, so I hopped off the shelter and went in the bushes. As i was going I felt a presence right next to me and heard the bushes moving...might have just been a bird or small animal but it felt huge and ominous. I booked it back into my sleeping bag. The next morning, instead of being woken up by birds singing, it was absolutely silent and it stayed weirdly silent all the way off the mountain. I've spent my fair share of nights in the woods but whatever was next to me in those bushes srill creeps me out to this day!

    About the kid it could just be an accident: as a child time passed way too slow for me, and once my family left me on a carousel for less than a minute so they could pay for my tickets and it felt like an eternity so I got off the ride and walked away. Fortunately people saw me and brought me back to my family, but if the 8 year old was alone for an hour and wanted to go to the mountains, he might have gotten bored quite fast and decided to take a walk. Then it would have been easy for him to get lost, not following the tracks but rather feeling adventurous... so a recipe for a disaster.
    He could've been kidnapped, yes, but he could definitely also have simply wandered off, gotten lost and then either gotten attacked by an animal or simply walked further into the wilderness making it impossible for him to be found again...
    Either way his disappearance is heartbreaking and I hope that the family gets answers someday! 💔

    Fabulous recounting. Familiar with the material.
    This is my home turf- Though I was native Upper Valley. 70's and 80's. Glad I was not aware of this when lost for a few hours, around Benson, turkey hunting ~ 12 yrs old.
    Not the same place- close enough, it would have been for a lost, imaginative 12 year old.

    Kyle, the last time i was up there with a buddy of mine we dry camped both nights off trail. There’s several little campsites all up and down that stretch from rte 9 to the top. You probably already know that. First night we camped at some point where we could see wind turbines and then second night a different spot. Great time! Went up the tower, checked out the view, etc.. Last day, we’re like a mile away from the trailhead and I twisted my ankle something so fierce that my ankle still isnt right. That was September 2020. Creepy place for sure. Thanks so much Kyle for this genre! NQU

There's definitely something weird about that area... besides all those unexplained disappearances, if I remember correctly, wasn't it on Glastenbury Mountain that you saw that weird shofar guy and had that too-close-for-comfort moose encounter right at the summit? There's no telling the kind of weird stuff that could happen out there... 😁

    Interesting. I grew up in the Hudson valley and honestly past Putnam Valley all the way to around there on either side of the Hudson river. It gets super sketchy. It reminds me of Idaho and Nebraska. It's just very isolated but the thick forrest .. some of those towns are super spooky. You gotta have your wits about you and a weapon around that AT. I spent my first 25 Years really hiking around the NY at I almost never went without some sort of hatchet, machete, gun, or at least hunting knife.

A young woman native to Vermont decided to go hiking with no supplies, wearing clothes not adequate for the storm (which granted she seems to not have known about at the time she took off but once she was at the forest she most certainly did) and decides to just go into the woods anyways alone when it was already getting dark? And by then knowing it was already getting cold??? Really?

    I went here after hearing about the disappearances and found a mansion on an incredible acreage deep in the Triangle that wasn't on the map and was guarded by armed guards dressed as power pole workers. The scary part is that I'm actually not making this up.
    I left and as I was on the way out, saw a giant, eerie obelisk in the distance. It took forever to find it but it was a war monument to the revolutionary Battle of Bennington and it was blatantly Masonic and esoteric. Every town nearby was mega rich and gave me the creeps.

I do remember backpaacking thru the Glastenbury area and spending a cold night with my hiking partner and 8-10 others at the open-front shelter near the top of the mountain.
